So ladies. I seem to be checking out clothes while watching movies. Like I’ll notice the shoes and go oh my. I love those or I like the way her skirt flows and so forth. How about you ladies? Ever check out the wardrobe in the movies. Especially love those romantic comedies and the beautiful clothes and wish I could switch places. Lol.
sometimes I’ll put on Hello Dolly and drool over the dresses.
The forums don't seem to be working right, tonight. Navigation back from the first page of a thread doesn't do what it should, and when I replied to this thread, it logged me out and I lost my reply. So I will try again.
Do I look at the fashion of a movie or TV show? You bet I do!
Honey Ryder's bikini in Dr. No.
Domino's famous mesh, black swimsuit in Thunderball.
Barbara Eden can still rock Jeannie's outfit.
Who can forget Daisy Duke's namesake shorts? I am wearing something like them right now. 🫣
Katherine Hepburn wore fantastic high-waisted, pleated pants in the 1940s. I tried and failed to find some like them.
Virginia Madsen wore a wonderful tulip dress in The Hotspot, if you can take your eyes away from the young Jennifer Connelly.
For Alfred Hitchcock's North By Northwest, Hitchcock picked out all of Eve Kendall's outfits. The two most notable ones are the black pencil skirt with a classic white shirt, and that beautiful black and red A-line dress, all bought at Bergdorf Goodman.
To a small degree, but no more so than just paying attention to what people are wearing in general.

Most definitely. Not only in movies but also TV shows and Awards shows. My wife and I enjoy critiquing the outfits we see. There have been a few times my wife has said she would like to see me in an outfit we've seen. She isn't into dressing up and says I'm girlier than her when it comes to that. I have to agree with her - I prefer dresses and skirt/blouse combinations as well as my bling.

I hope this might be something I'll do more often as Fiona grows. I was quite pleasantly surprised the other night when (in male mode) I caught Hazel Irvine on TV, leading the studio punditry on the Masters snooker tournament final, and my first thought was 'Ooh, I like her hair!' 🙂
Hi Rosiebeth. I do it all the time. Half of the year I work as a lumberjack (in summer) and the other half I work as a women's costumer (in winter). Just last night I was repairing a Rio Samba Costume (it lost some feathers). I'm semi-retired now but still active and specialize in dance and show costumes like for Lido De Paris, ballroom and cosplay. I also do repair and alterations and build unique props. So as I watch movies, tv or a live performance I will be studying the shoes, makeup, jewelry and clothing of the performers. Then if I or my wife (who was a dancer) really like it, I'll incorporate it into something I make. For me it's fun and creative. Most times I will just make one for myself (I'm intersex and a size 8) and then just work on it until I get the look and learning that I want. Like Ellie Davis, I also have a ton of books and I especially concentrate on broadway shows, movies and the stars. There is almost nothing that I wear that hasn't been altered or repurposed. For me it's fun, creative and keeps my arthritic hands going. Thanks for this fun topic. Marg
Yes, me, I do that!
1950s fashions in particular are gorgeous, well represented on TV in Agatha Christie mysteries and the like. Oh, and the elegant 20s and 30s frocks in Downton Abbey!
I also covet many of the beautiful creations on Strictly Come Dancing (Dancing With the Stars in the US), imagining being whirled around the ballroom in them.
Oh Gosh yes! As a child I was enamoured with the lovely clothes the girls wore in the films back in the sixties. Ask me what the plot was and had no clue but ask what the girls wore...
It certainly was an influence in my formulative years.
I do it all the time especially with movies from the 30s, 40s & 50s where glamorous woman like Rita Hayworth are wearing those gorgeous dresses and gowns from that period.
All the time, and not just movies, I am surreptitiously eyeing clothes being worn when I am out and about. Some lovely lady will be wearing something that might suit me and help me blend in.
Not so much for movies but if I see something I like in real life I'm on it. I have no problem walking up to a complete stranger. I love your (whatever it is) , where did you get it? I've been complimented on shirts i wear to work by a couple office guys. Solid color long sleeve under my work shirt. That shirt looks nice. I tell them Walmart wemens department, how much do you like it now? They don't care.
