About a week ago I went to have an MRI on my hip. Everything went well. When finished I was given my CD and left. Yesterday I went to see my Dr so she could review my MRI with me. She pulls it up on the screen and as were reviewing she is pointing out some things. As I'm looking at the screen I realize I can see the lace on my panties and the lines of my panties on the MRI. I started to feel a bit nervous. Then she asks me "Do you see right here?" and pointed at my hip area on the screen. I wasn't sure what she was trying to show me. Where she was pointing was right at the lacey part. All I was thinking was OMG is she asking me about my panties. Then for what ever reason I say "Are you talking about the lines?" She kind of laughed and said "No those are your underwear." Then she shows what ever she was talking about. She then says were going to do a cortisone shot in your hip and this should give you some relief. She comes back with another nurse. They ask me to lay down. Then she pulls down the right side of my shorts where the shot is going. I was so embarrassed because when she pulled down the shorts she completely exposed my panties. I was not expecting to get the shot nor was I expecting the MRI to show my panties. Then the nurse says "I'm gonna slide your panties down a bit ok hun?" At that point I was so embarrassed and they could tell. The Dr looks at me and asks are you ok? I told her yes but I'm a bit embarrassed. She then says "Why, Your not the only man who wears them. Let's worry about the hip." After they finished my shot I checked out and left.

It was an interesting day at the Dr to say the least. I was still embarrassed but happy that she didn't make me feel uncomfortable.

@chellygirl  Interesting that the Dr said she had seen other male patients wearing panties. Best, Marlene.

@marleneroberts She didn't quite say that. She said I wasn't the only man who wears them.

Your Doctor and Nurse a true professionals!

No doubt that they could write many stories of  the people and things that they have encountered. Your's was a welcomed minor relief to them! 🥰

@chellygirl sorry to hear of the embarrassment, not a fun feeling. Still, seems like a very sweet couple of ladies. We love a non-judgmental ally.

@chellygirl I would have been so embarrassed, you handled it well and the medical staff are true professionals

@chellygirl oh my Chelly , I can just imagine your experience, not knowing what was going on what she was talking about etc , but how funny she just said that in the end ... I bet you needed a lay down and a drink when you got back home 🥰

@chellygirl I think the key issue here is that they treated you with respect and their only concern was your well-being.

Panties, bras, whatever.  None of that even moves the needle Chelly.

As @melodeescarlet said, people show up at medical facilities with all sorts of things on or in their bodies.  If you can think of it, staff has seen it....dozens of times at least.  They simply don't care what you are wearing.

After you've done it a few times you'll stop caring too.

@chellygirl what a great story Chelly, I’m sorry if I laughed out loud, I do know it was a bit traumatic for you.  But I love the fact that your doctor recognized that she’d seen others of us before.  Thanks for sharing!

@chellygirl about 5 years ago I was in the hospital taking many tests why I was having terrible headaches and equilibrium issues… the results of the tests determined  spinal stenosis and surgery was highly recommended… before I was admitted to the ICU, I was examined by two RN’s … I forgot that I had the brightest red toenails! As Ellie mentioned “Medical staff are well used to things like this”. The nurses reaction to the toenails was “Oh” with smiles.  As I was lying in the ICU for 20 minutes one of the nurses approached my bed asked how I was feeling and put her hand on my shoulder and said “it will be our little secret”! TY I replied..

@chellygirl

Thanks for the tale.

I got caught out once too in a health care situation, and it seems to me quite a few people have reported similar on here. I think it's a good character forming experience. Without a doubt there was an embarrassing element of 'ooh-er !!'. And it's a great tale to have in your life anecdotes. But I think once it's happened , and you survived to tell the tale, there's a bit of 'so what?' in the equation.

So I wonder what would I do the next time? Would I go out and buy some drab to avoid a recurrance, or would I look for my favourite (and clean!) panties to wear. I know what I'd like to think I'd do! 😉

@emmat Next time I don't think it would bother me as much because the Dr already knows.

OMG - I would have died.

Shock

Medical staff are well-used to things like this though 🙂

@chellygirl Firstly, people in the medical biz have seen it ALL. All. People walking in with unimaginable objects inserted where nature never intended. lol Panties is like the least shocking thing possible.

Secondly, this is what happens when you let those little fears go unchallenged. You end up in a state where they become big fears and 'which underwear do I have on?' can induce panic.

You're not doing anything wrong. 😉

@melodeescarlet You are sooo right Melodee, I've as a doctor I different hospitals since 1986 and seen it all.  We do not care, though I always think that it could have been me and sometimes I've even been underdressed myself.

I regularly strip down to nothingness while wearing full female clothing at my medical visits.  It doesn't bother me at all since I've been closely inspected so many times before.  Intersex people tend to get very complete examinations.  Normally not too many people in the room ever bat an eye except for some unfamiliar medical personal who never saw an intersex person before.  I usually give them the 1-5 minute lecture on us and what they missed when they were going to school.  After they recover from their astonishment they usually thank me.  Marg

I have been "caught" twice wearing a bra for vaccines. I thought I would just pull up my selve but the tech insisted I drop my shirt off my shoulders. Once it was both shoulders. There I was showing the full glory of my bra...at least I was wearing a cute lacy one. All in all, no big deal. I got my shots and went home none the worse off.

I've had a couple of MRI's in the past, they won't let me keep my underwear on. I have to change into shorts & teeshirt that they provide. Apparently, someone in the past had undies that contained a metal thread in it's construction & they got burnt during the scan.

@michaela2001 The panties were cotton and lace. I did have to change into the paper shorts and had a tee shirt on for the MRI.

@chellygirl Mine were all cotton too, they introduced a blanket instruction that everyone had to wear the undies provided, because of the previous "accident". better to be safe, I think.

I recently visited my doctor for a checkup...en femme. I asked her ahead of time if it was OK if I presented as a woman; she basically answered, "Bring it!" Doctor was very complimentary; nurse who did the preliminaries was great, too! I even changed the avatar on my online health account 🤣 As someone opined earlier: their only concern is your health...

I wore a pair of Soma hipsters to my last doctors appointment. They were brown microfiber with a lace waistband. I wasn't worried though. It was the pulmonologist. I had a lung ct an hour before. I wore lounging pants with a string tie so there would be no reason to remove them.

I have a full annual physical in April. I will let you all know

@chellygirl I have quite a variety of styles and brands in my panty drawer but Soma hipsters are my favorite over all. I just wish they had more variety in the prints they offer.
