In my case, I love he feeling of that I a nice silk underwear and walking outside in a nice cool day, having a soft wind come under my dress and moving my hair, also, the sound of my heels on the ground, plain and simple I just love everything, every piece of garment.

@carlafirst11 I might have said that years ago. Now I would say it is self acceptance. Plus a closet too full of clothes to go to waste. 😀

I'm trans. I don't wear women's clothes. I wear MY clothes.

I have to wear something!  And I'm not crossdressing.

In a word, escape. I keep crossdressing because I want to have a break from the stresses and cares of being plain old me. When I'm dressed I feel happier, more confident and more relaxed. I also like to think I look at least 20 years younger and rather more attractive than my real self, which can't be a bad thing!

@jacquelinelarkspur So well said! I feel that being a cd releases me from my cares for a time, it’s almost like a mini vacation. I may not be a trans person but I certainly enjoy being “Beautiful” and pampering myself for as long as I can. Womanhood may not be my reality but I sure enjoy dipping my toe in that water.  Maybe I’ll just dive right in because trust me the waters fine.

Thank you, Melanie. A mini-vacation is an excellent way of describing it. And we should all be free to pamper ourselves on vacation!

@jacquelinelarkspur Exactly! I don’t have a care, worry or obligation in the world when I transform into Jill. And the constant pressure to be strong and tough is dropped and I get to be delicate and oh so deliciously feminine. Safe. That’s another way I feel and I don’t know why. These are the reasons I cross dress. These are the reasons I LOVE cross dressing. It’s my expression of self love, I suppose.

Hugs, Jill

Thank you, Jill. I think that self-esteem or self-worth plays a huge part in the reasons why we crossdress.

Jacqueline, Melanie & Jill,

You have expressed my thoughts perfectly. It is such a relief to dress to any extent. I just feel so calm and happy, and to be honest, feminine. It's a perfect break from my day to day. It always amazes me how these feelings still wash over me every time - even after being at this for quite a while. 😊

I agree, Denise. Those feelings never diminish with the passing of the years. If anything they evolve and become stronger in a more contented way. They are moments to be cherished.

@jacquelinelarkspur I agree. Self esteem with regard to cross dressing comes, I believe, from accepting this part of ourselves as being just that, part of us and not something horrible to be ashamed of. Once I let go of the shame for my feminine qualities, the love and self esteem poured in to my heart.

@jacquelinelarkspur I agree with everything you say, Jacqueline, plus Allie is more fun loving and tolerant than drab me was. I say was  because she is most definitely having a good influence on the rest of me!

And yes, I'm way better looking in a dress, heels and jewellery than I am in dungarees, flat cap, hobnail boots and pipe. 👗+👠=😊

@carlafirst11 I've been crossdressing for well over 40 years, and even now, when I'm doing it less and less due to timing and privacy issues, I can tell you even now, it gives me the MOST pleasure of all, when I'm dressed and can be "Tiny", if only for an hour...!!!

@carlafirst11 The biggest thing that has kept me dressing the way I do is the sense of authenticity that I get when dressed in my clothes.   It has become more of a situation that I am dressing the way I should as a woman and doing anything else is wrong.   I came to this realization recently when I determined that I was actually a transwoman.

@carlafirst11 I remember in my 20s I bought a good silk sheet set.  and wearing silk on silk sheets well I probably dont need to explain any further . but only issue is I kept sliding out of bed and my pillow would shoot off if I did not put my head right in the center. So I had to opt for just wearing it. 😉 Cheers RC

@river I just put a set of silk sheets on my bed again!  I know what you mean, the top sheets and pillows just shoot around.  However not going to trade the feeling of the satin sheets and sleeping in a satin night gown.  I have not had such peaceful nights in a while!  I look forward to climbing into bed and wrapping myself in comfort!

@carlafirst11 What keeps me dressing?

Crossdressing is still new to me, so I am still on the upswing.

Today, I had two sales clerks address me as "sir". Maybe I am doing androgyny a bit hard. 🤪

@carlafirst11 for me it is definitely a departure from my historical self.   Even though I have been doing this for years there is till so much to learn and experiment with.  I find myself wondering “how would I look if…” and that leads to new color matches, outfits and makeup etc.  The variety of ways of can present myself to the world en femme is intriguing to me. When I pass I mirror I like what I see.  Add in support from friends here - and a compliment or two - just keeps me going. I’m more confident and friendly. If I had to boil it down into a word:   Enjoyable.

@carlafirst11 I keep doing it because I love it. The way I feel as I'm getting dressed and being dressed is very special and wonderful. It's a special kind of bliss and pleasure. I can't get those feelings any other way.

@carlafirst11 The reason I keep dressing is because I live in America and this is a free country! People have to remember that fact. We are free to wear what we want and express our life styles as long as we aren't hurting anyone.

Goodness, that is a question I can't even start to answer.

One factor is, like you said, the feeling of women's clothes against the skin.  Not sure if it is subconcious, but women's clothes feels way softer than men's.

In my younger years it was also the self gratification component, which has greatly subsided in my older years and I enjoy exploring and feeling like a girl when I'm fully transformed as Wendy.

To this day I still enjoy CDing, looking and feeling like a girl.   It is such an awesome feeling.

Plus, I too have a large closet full of Wendy's clothes and if I stopped now my wife would not be impressed as she has bought me a great deal of those clothes.

Not sure if it's subconscious, but women's clothes feel way softer than men's.

A while ago I ditched men's jeans entirely and started wearing women's jeans on an everyday basis. Wendy, THEY ARE SO MUCH SOFTER.

Which begs the question ... why are men's jeans so stiff and scratchy in the first place? It makes me wonder if the original 'Jean' just really hated men.

*Before people start writing in, Ellie wants to point out that she know full well that Jeans were NOT invented by someone called Jean. She would also like to present the membership with the following fun fact. The indigo plant, from the root of which the dye used to colour jeans is extracted, grew abundantly at Nimes in France; cloth dyed with indigo was called 'Serge de Nimes'. Hence 'Denim'*

@ellyd22 And the "jeans" part comes from the original type of cloth used to make them, either cotton or wool. It was around for a few centuries. Modern blue jeans were originally designed for miners.

Popularized in the 1950s by Marlon Brando and James Dean, blue jeans became a symbol of rebellion for teenagers.

The tight, form-fitting stretchy women's jeans feel amazing!

@harriette Finding out that stretchy women's jeans are a thing has been a game changer ... once I discovered them (and their softness) I ditched all of my male jeans overnight.

I was in Canterbury on Boxing Day, having a coffee with my sister. I told her that I was wearing women's jeans (just to be clear, she already knows that I'm trans).

It turned out that she was wearing men's jeans.

Go figure.

@ellyd22 I know what you mean. I have also ditched all but two pairs of men's jeans for those occasions when I can't wear the girly ones - i.e. those times when I can't turn up in spray-on skinny jeans with a nice flat front!

I really love the feeling of the clothes. Men’s clothes are very boring. I have come to realize though, that I need to express this large part of myself. I think that is the true reason.

Beside loving the feeling and look of women's clothes, they just fit my body better than male clothes.  I can buy a pair of women's jeans off the rack which fit perfectly.  I ALWAYS have to get men's pants hemmed.  Also, the sleeves on men's shirts are almost always too long.  Not so female clothes.  My limbs just seem to be more proportional to a woman than a man.

Then there are shoes.  The most comfortable and best fitting shoes I own are all women's shoes.

But of course, none of these are sufficient reasons alone to crossdress.  I do it because I love feeling like a woman.  That's the reason I take it further and love to put on makeup and feminine wigs, too.

It's a need, I don't really understand where it comes from & I don't really care I just know I would be bored if I were to go back to guy's clothes permanently. These days I rarely wear them unless I'm out in the world & even then it's only a top layer, always have a bra & panties / leggings or stockings regardless of what I'm doing. They feel good & they make me feel good so that's enough for me.

You all just added pretty much the rest of reasons I all wear women’s clothes. As some you put it there are just clothes, daily wear, but you at one point did wear those boring male cloths, anyway, I thank you all for your responses, all of them correct in my opinion.

What has kept me crossdressing?

There are a number of reasons that I keep crossdressing. First, after years of denial a few years ago I came out to my wife and have been able to dress without feeling any shame or guilt. Secondly, it relaxes me and makes me feel good expressing my femininity. Additionally I like the feel of the different materials and styles. The freedom I feel when I wear a dress or skirt/blouse combination is exquisite. The feel of nylons (pantyhose or stockings) on my legs feels wonderful. Being hugged by a bra is comforting. Being ablet o walk in heels and hear the clicking as I walk. Then there is the jewelry - earrings (especially danglers), bracelets, necklaces all help me to feel pretty. As if those aren't enough reasons, just being able to dress and feel pretty is reason enough.

XOXO
Suzanne

@cdsue What you just said, all of it, equally without any guilt. Oh, and add in the scent and headiness of wearing perfume 🙂

Although I've not being doing it long enough to consider it what keeps me crossdressing, but it's certainly why I'm not stopping any time soon of my own volition.

@cdsue exactly. My SO isn’t so accepting that I can dress every day freely but that because we have our kids here too. Everything else is spot on girl.

I remember when I was 13. I dressed up from head to toe. Makeup, my mother’s pretty white blouse. This incredibly beautiful yellow floral skirt and a pair of 2” heels. I was admiring myself in the hall mirror when she popped through the door and caught me. She just looked at me. Then said “Go take that stuff off,” I was caught. No need to hurry now. Lol. I wore them for another 30 minutes or so. I remember thinking to myself, “This is who I SHOULD be.” I just felt I should have been a girl. The clothes just brought me to life.

Having been in the open with my dressing for some years , I don't feel I cross dress or wear womans clothes . I go to the wardrobe or drawers and pick an outfit I want to wear that day. If it's a skirt so be it . I wear what's comfortable and that's the key. Female style attire is so much more comfy , often lighter and brighter . A skirt and nice blouse is so much more comfy and relaxing than trousers and t shirt . As for underwear , I can't believe I used to think boxers were comfy....yeuch.

@kayt When I first told my partner, that was more or less her response - 'they're only clothes'! Although I do enjoy the fact that they aren't men's boring clothes 🙂

Oh and yes, well - I just can't bear wearing male underwear anymore, those rare occasions when I can't avoid wearing them. It just feels like everything is rattling around in them... not comfortable at all!
