This might sound like a previous topic, but it's so fun with a different angle...

If you had a theme song, or one that just made your gurl look complete, what would it be?  Is there a lyric that just seems to define you?

Mine right now would be...

Señorita by Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes....

I love it when you call me señoritaI wish I could pretend I didn't need yaBut every touch is ooh, la-la-laIt's true, la-la-la

That one just about sums up life and dilemmas as a CD and a guy, the love and need of these 2 parts of me, the importance of feeling like I fit in when dressed even though I don't "pass" at all.

@lea-jhen Good choice, Lea. I love to revel in listening to music! Haha. My choice is Man! I Feel Like a Woman by Shania Twain.

"The best thing about bein' a woman is the prerogative to have a little fun!"

Hi Rev,

I'm with you on this one. I remember one night I was in a gay bar in Vancouver and one of the performers came out and sang the song "Man if feel like a woman". I was then in my early twenties and that immediately became my theme song.

@revel  Yes I can relate to that song as well, though I love the "Woman in Red" by Chris de Burg. The way he describes this beautiful woman is so much how I'd like to be, a beautiful woman out for an evening.

@lea-jhene I must say that it seemed like a great and fun angle to approach this topic and I must also say that I agree with your choice, I love that they call me señorita when I'm in femme because it makes me feel completely feminine and I adore this song by Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes, the lyrics just perfectly portray that feeling sister. The other two songs that I love and that make me enter that state of complete femininity are Break my heart by Dua Lipa and Dangerous Woman by Ariana Grande.

@lea-jhene Oh my gosh!!! There are so many songs that fit my girly mode/mood, but not necessarily for the lyrics, but how they make me feel.

Tenderly - Rosemary Clooney

Wicked Game - Gemma Hayes

How - Lisa Loeb

Make You Feel My Love - Adele

At Last - Etta James

Everything - Bitter:Sweet

Feeling Good - Nina Simone

And many more  I have several playlists of female crooners, strong women singers.

All of these strong and emotional female voices, immediately speak to me as Gemma. As a guy, I push my emotions aside. Gemma is far more sensitive and emotionally available.

For me, it's I Enjoy Being A Girl, from the '50's classic Broadway musical and '60's movie, The Flower Drum Song....lyrics from the first verse:

I'm a girl and by me that's only greatI am proud that my silhouette is curvyThat I walk with a sweet and girlish gaitWith my hips kind of swivelly and swervey

If interested in the scene and/or are not familiar with the song, here's a YouTube link so you can enjoy it:

'O Caroline' by Matching Mole is probably my favourite 'Caroline' song and the one I would use as my entrance music.

It's such a touching song and starts off with one of the best verses ever! Plus, it features a Mellotron and Robert Wyatt... what's not to love about it? 🙂

For me it's Suddenly I See by K.T.  Tunstall.   These lyrics sum me up:

Suddenly I see
This is what I wanna be
Suddenly I see
Why the hell it means so much to me

Not lyrically, but one song that I always feel really makes Melodee come to life is "Levitating" by Dua Lipa. It's fun and bouncy and energetic and...I just love it 🙂

Hi Lea,  Thanks for this interesting topic.  I don't know that these tunes actually define me but they definitely put me in the right mood.  I tend to dress as edgy glamour, so my closet standard is black wiggle, bandage, pencil dresses and sequin and sparkle gowns, sometimes along with a black leather motorcycle jacket.  It's also a welcome change from lumberjacking during the week and I love to get out and PARTY!  So lately the song Light of Day has been rolling around in my mind as I get ready to drive out to an event.  I really prefer the Joan Jett/Michael J. Fox version and it has to be loud and just rolls in my brain.

"Well, I'm a little hot-wired, but I'm feeling okay
And I got a little lost down along the way
Well, I'm just around the corner 'til the light of day, yeah
I'm just around the corner 'til the light of day, yeah"

And if I've played it too much I just go to mental playlist number two which is On The Darkside from Eddie and the Cruisers.

"The dark side's callin' now.  Nothin is real !

When I finally get to my destination I swing my legs out of the car and put my heels on and start walking into the club mentally humming Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress by the Hollies.

"She was a long cool woman in a black dress....Cos that long cool woman had it all"

So, now you know what is behind the smile as I walk into the party (even if I'm only 5ft. 5in.).  And if you are feeling a little dull tonight, just grab these tunes off the net and crank up the volume.  In a few minutes you might just be tempted to slip your hi heel slippers and red dress on and go out to the nearest roadhouse (even if you have to work in the morning).  Party On!  Marg

Hi Lea,

I have two and both 80’s pop songs. One is Bananarama - Venus …. Yeah baby she’s got it! 😉

The other is Bardeux - Magic Carpet Ride, as in my feeling about CD-ing.

XOXO

Lately, it's Dua Lipa's "Dance the Night". We dance to it so loud and so often it might drive the neighbors nuts!

"I'll still keep the party runnin', not one hair out of place..."

Carole King's "You make me feel like a natural woman", especially when I'm in full Caty mode and looking in the mirror!

This is a really neat subject. I suppose I never considered the question before but there are songs I really relate to because they make me feel a certain way and perhaps have helped me to accept myself wholly. I am a very big fan of The Killers and the lead singer Brandon Flowers, so both songs I would say are important are by them. First, Never get you right, by Brandon Flowers. This song I take as an empowerment vehicle. I urge anyone who reads this to pull it up on YouTube or Spotify.

… And I'll give you my opinion, it's the only one I got

They'll turn you into something, whether you are it or not

… But they'll never get you right

I've been watching you all night

And the people passing by

They should tremble at your sight

It reminds me that I am who I am and I'm worth being revered and respected regardless. People might not understand how I am, but I know I am and that matters.

Next, one song by The Killers, Shot at the Night, is a primal, fun call to enjoy the now. It is romantic and adventurous, much like myself. I would also encourage everyone to listen to this song, and watch the video, because it is fun and sexy. A few lines:

We're breaking all the rules

To find that our home

Has long been outgrown

Throw me a life line

Cause honey I got nothing to lose

Once in a lifetime (Once in a lifetime)

Once in a lifetime

Oh, give me a shot at the night

Give me a moment, some kinda mysterious

Give me a shot at the night

Give me a moment, some kinda mysterious

Give me a shot at the night

Enjoy!!!
