So I was chatting with a fellow CD the other day and I realized something about my wardrobe style.
like many I’ve been CD since before I was 10 years old.
may wife passed away 7 years ago and my CD has been in full swing. When chatting with my girlfriend I realized that my wardrobe style was that in fact of my wife’s. Everything from dresses, shoes, bras, panties sleepwear and more.
how did you come about your style? And how does it make you feel?
me. I feel closer to my wife.
My wife and my style are completely different. She likes darker colours, and wears capris (depending on weather) and pants. She does not like skirts whatsoever, even though she works in an office environment.
Me, I prefer the corporate CEO business woman style, pencil skirt, nice top, and blazer. I just love that corporate look, very business like and very professional looking.
I’m not sure I have one wardrobe style my dressing is very mood driven from mini skirts to long floral dresses and a choice of shoes from high heels to flats that’s the whole enjoyment for me having a choice instead of the same old male clothes which I find so uncomfortable

My wife was a semiprofessional dancer (no longer) and would actually stop traffic if she stepped out along Las Vegas Boulevard. She was T+A with million $ legs and a sense of fun and laugh that would light up a room along with being an incredible dancer. Her style was that of what we called a showstopper in the performance world and I've always like that. She dressed in a way that when she walked into a room everyone turned to look at her. She was fun, elegant and classy but not tawdry and outside of the dance world was just a regular down home mom. I always admired, supported and helped her in her career and my current wardrobe style emulates that, hence, I try to be a showstopper too when I glam up. Otherwise, daily I'm just a soccer grandma look. I blend daily but glam at night. So Rosiebeth, that's my style and some of the history. Marg
Very similar to Laura, my outfit choices from my now fairly extensive wardrobe are mood driven. Overall, i lean toward the retro style with some style & flair. I love skirts a bit more than dresses because of the endless combinations of mix and match with them. With the exception of shopping & errands, i am definitely Not a blendy girl and my wardrobe mostly reflects that.

I completely get it Rosiebeth. I could never really understand how she could fall so hopelessly in love with me. Her health has gone downhill over the years but she still helps, shares and comments on my outfits before I go out and then waits until I return for a recap of the event. Marg
When my wife and I were first dating, we had a separation for about a year, and in that time I was invited to a Halloween party at the last minute. I decided that since I was going to be alone for the first time in years, I would try something new. I rummaged through what I had, and what she left behind, and I put together an outfit and went as Courtney Love. That ended up being a preview of where I am now. This was back in the early 2000's, and I was taking the subway in Brooklyn from Bushwick to Williamsburg, so some guy had to step up to me and tell me Halloween was over. It was November 1st. Not wanting to get in a fight with him and his friend I just told him I was going to a Halloween party and that was that. Maybe I should've handled it differently, but the important thing was no one got hurt, and I was so glad to go to the party. About a year later I got back together with my girlfriend and told her all about my adventures and she quipped "you went as me for Halloween."
And finally here's the point of this post. I wasn't thinking about it at the time, but I did basically go as my wife as our fashion interests were much more in sync (basic black). Fast forward to now and we've diverged in our clothing tastes. I guess it took some time for me to develop my own identity, separate from my wife's, and it turns out it's much different, but we have that long history together so instead of these differences getting in the way, they add more to our story as we keep walking down the path together.
Oh gosh, my style huh?
When I was in my teens you would have called me a hooker. Short skirts, black seamed hose with garter belts and sheer tops and of course stiletto heels in sling back style. Garish, over the top makeup and hair as well.
In my twenties and thirties I was the model. I adored runway fashions though they never suited my figure.
20 years later and I'm still dressing like a 35 year old woman and my makeup and hair are perfect and I look the part.
20 years more and I don't appear to be my age (thank God). My style is classic and also common. I dress for the venue and event now. A party and it's a cocktail dress with modest heels. The grocery store sees a woman in slacks or jeans with a nice top (not fancy) and flats or maybe leggings and sneakers under a tunic. Around the house it's whatever suits my mood and the weather. I share some clothes with my wife. Mostly it's tops and shoes as we're the same size in those. Stylewise we are certainly not the same. She prefers casual all the time while I still enjoying showing off my femininity in a skirt or dress from time to time. We are individuals and dress that way. She might be in yoga pants and a t-shirt doing laundry while I'm wearing a midi dress.
I've gone from walking the streets (in dress only) to being the average woman. Most days I'm casual and you wouldn't see me in anything different from anyone else at the mall. But I do love to get-my-girl-on and dress up in something feminine and sexy. I still love that feeling I get from a pretty dress, sexy lingerie and a pair of heels. I just don't understand why so many women don't.
I have several looks.
1. 1950s dresses with petticoats, corset seamed stockings
2. Tie-dyed, floaty outfits
3. T-dresses from contemporary local designers
4. Office attire
In each look, I will keep hair with a red tinge, always in hosiery and never in trousers.
I've drawn each outfit from things that catch my eye rather than any particular influence, but there are a couple of members of CDH that have inspired purchases.

This is a good one Rosiebeth!
I think I dress like an idiot a lot of the time…(what’s with the babydoll dresses anyway?)
So I’m evaluating my selections better or at least attempting to. My wife said one of my outfits yesterday was my best look yet. Myself, I thought it was kinda dull. She’s all about being a “blendy” girl. Which I will definitely adopt at Keystone😊.
Meanwhile I personally favor short ruffled style dresses. I don’t know why I like them, I just do. Perhaps from playing house with the neighbor girls back in the 60’s? Who knows.
I do know that in trying to dress blendy I look down and think - this is similar to what I wear in drab mode. Huh. Not real exciting. I guess it’s not meant to be. It is more comfortable. Pants are definitely tighter but they’re still pants. Probably helps if I’m ever trying to go unnoticed. Which will be everytime unless I’m in a roomful of CDs.🥰
So to answer the query: My style is “evolving”.

My early influences and clothes were my mothers and sisters, the latter being more my age. Once away from the home it was a case of experimentation with styles and outfits that came and went quickly eventuality leading to me finding my own style. I wear dresses in all styles for work rest and play from the mainstream shops which gives me an everyday look but with a bit of style.
Being older, my goal was to dress as a stylish, occasionally sexy, middle-aged woman. That is the style I'm most comfortable with.
As my profile photographs show, I prefer an elegant, top and skirt look. I am far too old to look 'sexy'. My wife almost never wears skirts or dresses and I am never [in femme mode] seen in trousers (except the very first time out and never since).
I have two wardrobes, one for drab and one for femme, as the femme one gets fuller, the drab one is beginning to empty.
I have quite a few dresses for different styles, seasons and occasions, an increasing number of skirts and jeans and various tops. Although I do have patterns, I seem to wear block colours more naturally, which is just like male me! I will have to do some mixing and matching and experimentation 🙂
I know it has been some time but like to say I’m truly sorry for you lose
Is amazing that your dress style is as of hers
mine and my SO are 2 way way different person as she dress casual like a normally lady showed and I like to go on the wild side more of a stripper look I should say we all got are own taste indeed probably why I’m a closet dresser cause my outfits are definitely not a going out in public unless I want a lot of attention
