Jackie is spot-on about pantyhose and today’s females.The boomer generation grew up with them. The classier females are still wearing them. Women can think however they want and wear whatever they want today, and they’re mostly going for minimal and comfortable. But go back and look at old movies, videos, etc, women just looked way better and classier in hose. It’s a fact. It’s kind of a shame that a lot of crossdressers are pulling off feminine better than gg’s these days and a lot of it’s because they’re in pantyhose. You go gurls!
I grew up in the 1970s and all women wore pantyhose specially my mother who I wanted to be just like so I started dressing like her and wearing pantyhose as much as possible
Jasmine - same. 70s were the golden age for pantyhose. They were the very first item I ever purchased when I began my crossdressing career.

I believe it all depends in your age, as most of us here are middle aged, we grew up watching our ladies in the family dress up to the nines to just go to the market, and it included nylons.
Nowadays, most women in my side of the country don’t wear them, but as I have traveled back east, Europe young women do wear them during colder weather, they look beautiful by the way. If you are in Amsterdam, many women ride their bike, so more privacy, I guess 😀 as their skirt or dress will fly open.
@carlafirst11 I feel the same way as you my mother always wore pantyhose and I envy her so I started dressing like her lol
There a couple of reasons I wear pantyhose.
They make my legs look more feminine. They hide some of my leg hair that I may have missed while shaving.
Also I wear them to feel more feminine. Pantyhose are one of those items that men don’t wear. The feel of them on my legs, the sound they make as I walk and the way they make my legs look all scream feminine in my mind.

@jasminejeffries75 yes, the siren call of hose, lingerie and the contents of my closet. I’m amazed it doesn’t waken the neighbors!

@michelle27 I dunno Michelle, pantyhose USED to be one of those items that men didn’t wear. Nowadays however, there may be more men (crossdressers) wearing them than women. At least in my neck of the woods -a pantyhose sighting is kind of like spotting a unicorn. Doesn’t happen.

@gracepal it’s true. My wife doesn’t really care for them and will avoid them unless the outfit really needs them. I on the other hand look for opportunities to cross dress in pantyhose.
@gracepal I wouldn't be surprised if it's us gurls who are keeping the glossy shiny tights (hose!) market going. Apart from the occasional sighting, one gets the impression that only trannies go glossy these days. 🙂
Something else I've noticed (UK) is that a very high proportion (90% I would guess) of teenage girls wear tights as part of their school uniform. Usually these are of higher denier (probably 40+) because they are more robust than sheer tights. I wonder whether tights have now become associated only with school and school uniform and are therefore rejected as "fashion" wear. It is noticeable that on moving from school to college/6th form (at 16 in Britain) almost all the girls are in trousers...hosiery wearing is quite rare.

Pantyhose was my introduction to crossdressing. Trying them on for the first time was like magic! They felt amazing. As I got older, I would buy them myself and often wear them to bed under a pair of sweat pants or go to work wearing them under my jeans.
I love to get all dressed up and wear them as much as I can but I also understand times and places where they may not be appropriate and do go bare legged, more so in the summer months, running to the store on the weekends and such. I want to blend in as much as I possibly can.
Who knows if I'd be here without them!
I take it a step further than pantyhose and wear either lace top thigh highs or lace top stockings with garter belt. ultra sign of femineity
@leah63 Leah, that’s very true nothing more central than a garter with stockings, but I still love the feel of the pantyhose wrapped around my panties
I know it’s all been said but - wearing a pair of barely black high sheen 15 denier tights under my dress yesterday, seeing the sheen and beautiful shade and feeling the incredible smoothness as I rubbed my legs together, I was in heaven! What an amazing item of clothes - have been fixated by them since aged 4 or 5.
I have always felt like it was just an addition to the illusion. Because it is something that only women wear by wearing them it helps convince the world that I an feminine.
i just love them, love the feel without other underwear under them, i do wear them under a leotard or other dance wear, that's when i came accross smooth and soft ice skating and ballet tight's, i don't know how old i was when i started but like other people who answer this post, it was my mothers that i started wearing at a very early age.
@jackie7579 I agree Jackie - nice glossy sheer to waist tights under next to the skin is amazing.
In my opinion, it is the only way to wear a body or panty-girdle/ corselette, with tights on first and the underwear sliding around on top! Oo-er! 😀
Leotards too of course 🙂 Growing up in the late 70s and early 80s with all those shiny tights and leotards and legwarmers was torture for a kid with a tights obsession! 🤣
@caroline2k Hi.. oh yes with the girdle/corselette over the top, i am still slim and still able to wear late teenagers clothes including gymnastic leotard's etc, so tights first including the shimmery party style, during this cooler weatheri will wear tights if i wear a school uniform with short white sock's aswell.
@jackie7579 School uniform? I haven't worn a school uniform since I was at school - although that was a boy's one - and I have no desire to wear one ever again! lol
Having said that, most of the uniforms around where I live seem to involve black opaque tights under a very short tight tube skirt, which isn't a million miles from what I wear myself sometimes!
@caroline2k Hi, thanks for the reply, my profile photo is a school skirt, the blouse it a ladies, i thought i would post a resonable photo, but i do understand what your saying, and yes a few of my skirts are very short, i still like the wrap over gym skirt, i just find them nice and easy to wear and i wear a girls polo top with it... but... i do look good in full uniform with blazer, blouse, tie, pleated skirt and 3inch heal shoes..

im not a pantyhose wear. unless its really cold outside. then its designer ones only. its amazing how warm a thin pieces of nylon can keep your legs warm. they also look hot with short shorts.
@prettytoes living here in Montana the cold is always a good reason to wear pantyhose daily. It really is amazing how warm that sheer layer can keep you warm.
For me wearing pantyhose is simply just part of my ensemble when I go out "dressed".
I will say that I don't really wear pantyhose. Instead I wear thicker, opaque tights. Probably not a big difference but the material is different. I do see women wearing tights still.
For me though, it is less about them being explicitly feminine (though, they are!) and instead I wear them for more practical purposes. They cover my legs which I can be self conscious about and I tend to think the colors can bring an outfit together a bit better.
Maybe it is generational but I don't think that the absence of pantyhose is really taking away from the femininity of today's women. That is, I don't really view pantyhose as a quintessential item of female clothing. I actually want to get to the point where I am more comfortable dressing out as women do today even if pantyhose isn't part of the look.
Hi Natalie; I think its been a long time since pantyhose was seen as an only-female garment. I do know that for years many men with outdoor jobs have made use of them in the cold weather just to keep warm. For example.....Traffic Wardens, Lorry Drivers, Policemen and the like. I wouldn't be surprised if fishermen and people such as roofers and builders make use of them as well.
Perhaps today's women want to discard their pantyhose because in everyday life they are told they MUST wear them to keep up appearances in the office and so on. We wear them by choice so that makes us feel very different about the matter. After all, how many male members of staff in a business tear off their tie and pull open the collar of their shirt, the minute they walk out of the office?
@petersmith That is a fair point. As the old saying goes: the quickest way to get someone to do something is to tell them not to do it. So, yes there is almost certainly some psychology at play where we don't need to so it is more enjoyable. Whereas women sometimes do so it is less enjoyable. There is probably a similar sentiment about bras: women can't wait to get them off/crossdressers can't wait to put them on 🙂
What I enjoy most about crossdressing is the softness of the fabrics, and how they hug my body. Nothing does that quite like a pair of stockings or pantyhose.
In Joanna mode, I am always in a skirt and tights (sheers and opaques are all ‘tights’ in the UK), or sheer hold-up stockings.
Not only do they make the legs look great, they are amongst the most sensual things a girl can wear. The feeling of sliding a silky pair of tights up over freshly shaved and moisturised legs and then smoothing them out with the hands is simply fantastic!
