I had every intention of watching the cricket on tv this evening and then playing a few games of chess, but what did I do? I trawled through pages of wigs looking for ones I liked and then watching YouTube videos of people wearing said wigs to see what they looked like in real life. I also spent that time trying to resist actually buying one. I mean, I have several in different styles and different colours, why would I want another one? Why would I? Why, just why? Or why not? Yes, why shouldn't I have a new wig? I deserve one. I think I'll buy one.

I did. Bugger, I can resist everything but temptation!

Can you resist a new wig when the urge strikes?

Happy but poorer,

Becca

xx

@rebeccabaxter lol, if you want another wig girl, go get it! You deserve it!! lol omg, I was up to about twelve at one point, short, long, straight, curly, red black, blonde, brown, mixed. The list is endless. How can a girl not have twelve I ask you? lol Over the last few years, I’m down to about eight. For each one I have now, I have a new double ready to go, except for a couple I wear at home in the garden, or in the pool, or just puttering about. I have managed to find three styles that fit my face, age, etc. so when out and about, they are the go to looks. Go on, click that BUY button!

@jillleanne I have found the older I get in life, if I want something and I can afford it, I just buy it.

That doesn’t mean that I’m foolish with my money, but if I see a dress that I like, and I can afford it, I just buy it.

Life is so god-awful short we have to make the most of every moment we can. If that means having 12 wigs, then that is absolutely fine.☺️

@chrisfp99 I know. Please try to remain optimistic. It’s got to be hard and I really don’t have any idea how hard.

I will be thinking positive thoughts for you and hopefully something will open up to give you some time to be your real self.

Totally agree, Stephanie. This year has certainly brought home to me how short life can be! Like you, I don't throw (too much) money away but, I ask three questions: Do I want it? Can I afford it? Why not get it?

Only the third has follow on questions, do I have room for it and am I prepared to risk my wife's ire for buying yet another dress, pair of shoes, etc etc. Evidently, my answers to both have so far been Yes! Absolutely! 😂😂

@alexina Yeah, my partner always tells me that I don’t need any more dresses.

Yeah, tell me something I don’t already know🤣🤣🤣

don’t miss the opportunities. Many times they are small and if you blink, it’s gone.

@rebeccabaxter Oh, I definitely think if you want another wig Becca, you should buy it 😁

There’s nothing wrong with having several different options at your fingertips for whatever mood strikes you at the moment.

I’m going to go back down to Janets closet in Wyandotte sometime and have them fit me with an expensive wig and see how it looks. I’ve never really worn one. I think it would be cool to have some options to change up my hair though. At least until it gets long enough, I can really do something with it. That’s gonna be a while.

Everyone’s going to want to see pictures of it now…..☺️😁

@rebeccabaxter I am always looking at new wigs.   To me, hair is a big part of my presentation and I am always looking for wigs that will complement and improve my look.  I buy virtually all of mine on line and while sometimes it is an issue, I have generally had pretty good luck.  I have found that it is just about always a matter of getting what you pay for.

I haven't had any urge to buy more wigs since getting the current one.  Just as well, at that price!  But I know that with it on my head during pretty much all waking hours, I will need at least another one if not eventually two the same, so that when the current one needs a wash or is beyond redemption, there's always either another one that's been washed, or a new one ready to rotate in.  I was hoping to find a quieter month to start purchasing these, but it doesn't look like there's ever going to be one of those any more!

@finallyfiona that’s what I do now. I buy doubles so I always have that style ready to go. Sooner or later, they just lose their hold so they are great for a day out, but we winter away for four months so new ones get packed too.

Becca, that would be a difficult choice. Cricket or searching for a wig. As it happens I have all the cricket recorded and am just about to watch it (12.30 am). I've never owned a wig, but did have three lined up in my shopping cart for my ultimately futile attempt to dress in May. Oh well, I'm sure another opportunity will present itself at some point 😥 xx.

@chrisfp99 It will, my dear Chrissie ☺️

it may come at a time when you least expect it, but I think something will come. I’ve never owned a wig either so we are both in the same boat as far as that goes lol.

I don't have that temptation. I've eliminated it by going out in my neighborhood all the time. I see the same people, and have even made friends with one as I have been going on walks for the last 4 years or so. If every time I go out I'm wearing a different color or completely different style wig (straight vs. curly, long vs. short), it becomes obvious and then raises the question. With the same wig all the time I can pass because my hair isn't constantly changing.

I've got some other considerations too. My forehead screams MALE, so I need something with bangs (fringes). And I have a medi-port below my right color bone (I've been known to remark that they put the port on the starboard side), so if I'm wearing a tank top or spaghetti strap top or dress, I want the hair long enough to cover the hard bump sticking out.

My wig started to get frizzy at the ends, so I recently had to flat-iron the ends to unfriz the synthetic wig. I have a variable temperature flat-iron so I can adjust it to unfriz the wig without melting the plastic.

If I get another wig, it would probably be a human hair wig. It will be expensive, but it can be washed and conditioned, unlike the synthetic fibers which don't absorb the conditioner. It can probably be styled easier too. My intent is to wear it for many years.

When I am not going to wear my wig (like for swimming), I can just use clip-on bangs. My hair is long enough, and as of today I had the grey colored out (which also makes the hair less wiry). The bangs match my natural color which matches the coloring I get, so it all looks pretty natural. I hadn't had it colored for a long time as I was undergoing cancer treatment, and didn't want to spend money on my hair if I was going to lose it. Fortunately I didn't lose it all, and since my treatment has been completed for a while (and no sign of the cancer), it was time to go back to my coloring.

I currently have 6 wigs, 1 old wig that I cut short for use in the summer and 5 longer Gabor wigs in various stages of wear & tear. I strongly urge everyone that once you find one that you really like, buy multiples because they wear out faster than you think, especially like in my case where I live 24/7. The Gabor wigs are all the same style but in various shades of blond.

@d44 How long do you find you get out of any one wig Fiona?  I'm probably going to have to get a backup for my strawberry brunette long-bob before too much longer - I haven't even had to wash her yet, but I want the another one ready for if I fluff it and do damage.

Further to the comment about changing appearances too often. I appreciate that if one is 24/7 dressing then constantly changing hairstyles and colours would be confusing. In my own case, since I just go out to places away from here and am not 24/7, I can choose to change my hairstyle and or colour as often as I wish. In the summer, when wearing floaty tops and the like, then I prefer my hair to be a little longer to cover up my manly neck and shoulders but in the winter, when turtle-neck jumpers can be worn, I prefer a shorter style.

The only criterium I do set for wigs is -- no blondes! I'm far too old and with the wrong shaped face and forehead to pull off a blonde wig; in my case, it would scream 'transvestite'. I know some people have blonde wigs and they look really good -- I mean, look at Ellie Davis' blonde pictures --  so it's just a personal thing.

@rebeccabaxter Blonde does not work for me either and I am close to giving up with copper. I go for magenta / ombre / very dark red-brown (my natural colour). I've tried really short wigs, really long and settled generally for a bob. Consequently, I have a lot of wigs.

My take on it from the original post is to try to be kind to oneself, so if something is wanted and affordable, buy it and enjoy it.

I have found my style and shade with a brand I like. I have one for my daily wear and one ready and styled in to replace this one or if something goes wrong. But then I worry if they discontinue this style so bought another when the company I use has an offer, which led to the fourth one! I do have a couple of other wigs.

The wig I have is always cut in to my style by a hairdresser and she will do a little 'de frizzing' if need be but as I have been using her for years she has given me pointers to do it myself for simple trimming. I wash then when needed and follow instructions to ensure it is washed properly and conditioned.

Even though I wear them daily I can get a year of use from one wig.

Every now and again I will sit and look at wigs online as know what I am looking for.

Becca makes a very good point of looking for a wig then look at You tube for reviews to see the wig as it is out of the box. Some retailers do this as well because as we know what you see in a still image is nothing like what you will receive, like what happened back in the day.
