I had every intention of watching the cricket on tv this evening and then playing a few games of chess, but what did I do? I trawled through pages of wigs looking for ones I liked and then watching YouTube videos of people wearing said wigs to see what they looked like in real life. I also spent that time trying to resist actually buying one. I mean, I have several in different styles and different colours, why would I want another one? Why would I? Why, just why? Or why not? Yes, why shouldn't I have a new wig? I deserve one. I think I'll buy one.
I did. Bugger, I can resist everything but temptation!
Can you resist a new wig when the urge strikes?
Happy but poorer,

I haven't had any urge to buy more wigs since getting the current one. Just as well, at that price! But I know that with it on my head during pretty much all waking hours, I will need at least another one if not eventually two the same, so that when the current one needs a wash or is beyond redemption, there's always either another one that's been washed, or a new one ready to rotate in. I was hoping to find a quieter month to start purchasing these, but it doesn't look like there's ever going to be one of those any more!
Becca, that would be a difficult choice. Cricket or searching for a wig. As it happens I have all the cricket recorded and am just about to watch it (12.30 am). I've never owned a wig, but did have three lined up in my shopping cart for my ultimately futile attempt to dress in May. Oh well, I'm sure another opportunity will present itself at some point 😥 xx.
I don't have that temptation. I've eliminated it by going out in my neighborhood all the time. I see the same people, and have even made friends with one as I have been going on walks for the last 4 years or so. If every time I go out I'm wearing a different color or completely different style wig (straight vs. curly, long vs. short), it becomes obvious and then raises the question. With the same wig all the time I can pass because my hair isn't constantly changing.
I've got some other considerations too. My forehead screams MALE, so I need something with bangs (fringes). And I have a medi-port below my right color bone (I've been known to remark that they put the port on the starboard side), so if I'm wearing a tank top or spaghetti strap top or dress, I want the hair long enough to cover the hard bump sticking out.
My wig started to get frizzy at the ends, so I recently had to flat-iron the ends to unfriz the synthetic wig. I have a variable temperature flat-iron so I can adjust it to unfriz the wig without melting the plastic.
If I get another wig, it would probably be a human hair wig. It will be expensive, but it can be washed and conditioned, unlike the synthetic fibers which don't absorb the conditioner. It can probably be styled easier too. My intent is to wear it for many years.
When I am not going to wear my wig (like for swimming), I can just use clip-on bangs. My hair is long enough, and as of today I had the grey colored out (which also makes the hair less wiry). The bangs match my natural color which matches the coloring I get, so it all looks pretty natural. I hadn't had it colored for a long time as I was undergoing cancer treatment, and didn't want to spend money on my hair if I was going to lose it. Fortunately I didn't lose it all, and since my treatment has been completed for a while (and no sign of the cancer), it was time to go back to my coloring.
I currently have 6 wigs, 1 old wig that I cut short for use in the summer and 5 longer Gabor wigs in various stages of wear & tear. I strongly urge everyone that once you find one that you really like, buy multiples because they wear out faster than you think, especially like in my case where I live 24/7. The Gabor wigs are all the same style but in various shades of blond.
Further to the comment about changing appearances too often. I appreciate that if one is 24/7 dressing then constantly changing hairstyles and colours would be confusing. In my own case, since I just go out to places away from here and am not 24/7, I can choose to change my hairstyle and or colour as often as I wish. In the summer, when wearing floaty tops and the like, then I prefer my hair to be a little longer to cover up my manly neck and shoulders but in the winter, when turtle-neck jumpers can be worn, I prefer a shorter style.
The only criterium I do set for wigs is -- no blondes! I'm far too old and with the wrong shaped face and forehead to pull off a blonde wig; in my case, it would scream 'transvestite'. I know some people have blonde wigs and they look really good -- I mean, look at Ellie Davis' blonde pictures -- so it's just a personal thing.

I have found my style and shade with a brand I like. I have one for my daily wear and one ready and styled in to replace this one or if something goes wrong. But then I worry if they discontinue this style so bought another when the company I use has an offer, which led to the fourth one! I do have a couple of other wigs.
The wig I have is always cut in to my style by a hairdresser and she will do a little 'de frizzing' if need be but as I have been using her for years she has given me pointers to do it myself for simple trimming. I wash then when needed and follow instructions to ensure it is washed properly and conditioned.
Even though I wear them daily I can get a year of use from one wig.
Every now and again I will sit and look at wigs online as know what I am looking for.
Becca makes a very good point of looking for a wig then look at You tube for reviews to see the wig as it is out of the box. Some retailers do this as well because as we know what you see in a still image is nothing like what you will receive, like what happened back in the day.
