I have had a couple of questioning looks, when I take an item to the checkout register, if it is a woman at the register. Once I use my feminine voice though, it appears to me that I am accepted as a woman. I have always had a high pitch to my voice so it is easy for me to slip it up to a higher register. Once I have spoken though the person at the register would either ask a question or give me a compliment that implied a response. Do you use the voice from the person as the confirming factor?

Hi, Barbara,
I think a feminine voice would make you seem more congruent and therefore put the clerk at ease. If she clocks you, it creates a mental conflict and she may be uncomfortable about how to interact. Your feminine voice is a cue that tips her perception of you toward something familiar (a woman), which lets her relax and interact with you more easily.
