Hi there Ladies & All,

Makeup brushes, oh aren't they fun?  I could collect these just like clothes...

All the different sizes and shapes and colors!  And then the sponges, let's not forget those also!

Do you use the sponges?  How about brushes, are there certain ones that you just find essential?

Thanks again 🙂

@bang What I've always wondered is what's the MINIMUM number of brushes that you can get away with and still do a good job?

I'll be very interested to hear everyone's take on that!

Another interesting topic. I don't wear make up very often so I don't have much in the way of brushes. I do have a pack of sponges in different sizes and shapes which I haven't figured out how to use yet. I have a pack of brushes that my wife selected for me when she helped me buy my make up. They are small compared to others I've seen. I think they are a travel set based on the size and packaging. I do occasionally look at make up brushes when I'm shopping just don't know what I would need. As I don't do make up often I'm not too worried about it right now but time will tell.

XOXO
Suzanne

Do you think your wife would be willing to give you a tutorial? It could be a fun way for you to get her to show you how all those brushes she bought you should be used.

@jacquelinelarkspur she has shown me some but not all - part of the problem is I don't use make up often enough to remember - hopefully I'll be able to get some more help from her

I have seen a YouTube eyeshadow tutorial where they used just one brush for applying and blending primer and three shades. The result was gorgeous.

For eyeshadow I generally use three; a double-ended applicator, a blender and a flat eye liner. Plus a big brush for applying blusher.

When it comes to foundation, until quite recently I rubbed it on with my fingertips. That practice stopped when I discovered the egg-shaped applicator sponge. What a game-changer!

I think Im like you Amelia ,I have a set and though I dont get to do make up as often as I like I find I have a fascination with makeup brushes. 🤣

I bought a set and I see  more in my future but as Jaquiline has said one or two is probably way sufficient.

Fun Post Amelia

I have a dollar store set of brushes, but I have not used them yet because I have no idea about how to do make-up.

However, this keeps the tradition of me buying hardware before buying any software to run on it. 😁

I bought a set of five brushes in Sephora and it meets all my current needs.  I do want to get one of those egg sponge applicators for my foundation.  I really need to get a makeover to up my game so maybe my brush needs will change then.

No one is more novice than I on makeup, but I do vote for the egg over fingers for the foundation application. The exception being concealer, as it is spot specific .   I use 2 brushes  for the face and  wash them out .

I only use 3 brushes, 2 for my eye shadow (applicator & blender) and 1 to apply blush to my cheeks. I use my fingers to apply concealer & foundation but use an egg sponge to smooth it all out under my eyes. The sponge works better than fingers in that area where the skin is puffy and somewhat wrinkled.

As a very occasional crossdresser, I bought some brushes for my eye shadow last June, but they were so floppy I just couldn't get my eye shadow right. They were ok for blusher. I won't be able to dress again until next May and I'm thinking I'll try the sponges. Happy to use my fingers mainly for foundation.

Hugs, Chrissie xx.
