I did it! I had a make up lesson in Boots in my local city by a lovely lady called Emily. I was dressed in women's jeans, padded bra and long sleeved T shirt with earrings and eye makeup. I told Emily that I wanted my face feminised, with an app and a gizmo she checked may complexion and skin then advised what she would like to do, I agreed and she did, the result was good and if I knew how to add a picture I would ( can someone advise me please) I then went to M&S to collect an on line order, if I know what I want I find this easier as they do not stock that many sizes, so some new tights and my first non wired bra. Thought I'd try non wired as I usually tape my chest and use a wired bra but the tape causes itching and my thought is that if non wired there will not be so much pressure on the tape. Anyway now home, bra and tights are a good fit and I feel comfortable in my A line denim skirt.
I am in my 70's and have been in the closet all my life. Following the death of my wife, after a long happy marriage, I have taken advantage of the freedom to dismantle that closet, I have changed my name form Randy to Randi, not much but I like it. Next week I see a nail beautician to try and improve my nails.
As I sit here en fem I am willing and happy to answer the door to anyone and show my new true self. This is one trannie who is never going back in the closet!!!
Hi Randi
Happy New Year!
I have to say what a start to the year and it’s only the 3rd!!
Your article is a wonderful and inspiring read. Apart from your nails, where and what are planning next? Do tell..
Like you, I visited Boots to have a makeover, albeit an express one that was organised by the girls at work. That was an amazing experience, I still say hi to the lady who looked after me and still have the card with my foundation shade. That test they do is amazing, I’ve always felt comfortable going in and asking questions and advice.
Like my mum and my nans before her, you cannot beat a bit of Marks and Sparks. To date, my best bargain has been a pair of stilettos for £6.99 in the sales, they fit like a charm. Cannot beat their hosiery and clothes too.
Keep up with writing about your adventures and experiences. Look forward to reading about them…
Sending Hugs,

thanks Katie & Samantha for your comments. I shall have my nails done next week and then restyle my hair, after that I hope my next step will be to go out in public en fem, this will depend on whether I feel that I can pass in public but after walking through Salisbury city centre today with full makeup I don't think people notice, but wearing a skirt might change that. My big problem is I have size 12 feet which make feminine style shoes difficult, at present I rely on trainers which are unisex but only suit a certain type of skirt like denim. I'll keep you all in the loop.
How lovely Randi a huge round of applause for you. It can never be overstated that any outlet that offers makeovers or technique advice will rarely turn away a crossdresser as they are there to sell and not to judge.
I like Boots and also M&S although there wasn't anything that took my fancy in the sales this year.
Enjoy your new life Randi!
A year or so ago, I did a similar thing in a Boots in Cardiff. I explained that I needed help looking more feminine, and was sat in the chair. Nothing over the top. Nothing colourful. Concealer, foundation, finishing powder, mascara , a little eye shadow and lipstick. It was an amazing experience and I follow the same routine still. I was advised to use powder foundation as it would be better to cover any beard shadow.
Anyone in the UK wanting to do the same, I cannot recommend Boots, and their No.7 products enough. They often have 3 for 2 deals on, and you nearly always get a £10 off voucher.
Cerys
I also booked with the No 7 team and agree with Cerys plus that the actual consultation is free
Congratulations Randi on your makeover at Boots!
Alice
Congrats on you makeover at Boots.
I pop into my local Boots en femme when I have a trip down the town, usually to buy some tights.
I have size 13 feet, so difficult to find women's shoes to fit me properly. I eventually decided to use unisex styles, lots of crossover styles in the types of women's and mens shoes.
Thanks, Alicen!
I have yet to get cloth topped / running shoes. My big toes turn up and would quickly cut holes in them, but I will probably look for some this year.
Loafers are something that I haven't looked at yet, but I have some shoes that are close to being loafers. They just aren't androgynous.
I have lots of short boots, no long boots yet. Long boots are not really androgynous anyway. And around home I am almost always barefoot.
Flats: the least flattering footwear possible, so there is no chance of me ever getting any.
I hope lots of members get to read your post.
Well done on crossing the threshold of an in store make up session at Boots. I’d love to have the nerve to do that. Is there a process for booking or do you just show up and ask?
Hi Kimberley
You can either just walk into Boots and hope they have someone free or make an appointment. I suggest the best way is to make an appointment with the No.7 team, do this by going to the Boots website and register. Then search "book an appointment" and go to the No.7 section and book an appointment in whatever area you want a lesson,I booked under eyes but asked for skin care to look more feminine and that was no problem.
Good luck and do give it a try it is worth it and I found being CD they treated me just fine.
Randi
Good luck Kimberley, I'm sure you will enjoy your visit and please let us all know how it goes - Randi
Well I (at last) managed to pluck up the courage and attend a makeover session at the Boots No7 counter in their Edinbugh store. It's been on my mind for weeks and to say I was aprehensive would be an understatement. A half hour car trip and safely parked in the quiet car park my heart was thumping and I almost drove home. I thought it's now or never and stepped out of my car. My own hair neatly curled and wearing some concealer and lippy, ladies glasses, a lovely animal print scarf and plain blue blouse under my winter jacket and walked through the shopping mall to the Boots store. I was greeted hesitantly initially by the stylist, although I'd pre booked, but the ice was broken within a couple of seconds. I was sat in the middle of the store make up section at the make up mirror and all anxiety drifter away almost instantly. Lots of people walked past as I was made over, but there was absolutely no reaction from anyone which was brilliant and boosted my confidence greatly. The makeover started with a foundation colour match using their camera gizmo and a couple of shades were tried out on both sides of my face before choosing the nicest one. Katie the brilliant stylist (young lady in her late 20s) then removed both shades from my cheeks before giving me a full face makeover of No7 products to include primer, bronzer, our chosen foundation, translucent powder, blusher and highlighter, eye brow tidy, eye shadow & liner and mascara. I looked and felt wonderful & Katie was full of compliments too. The makeover session was due to take 20 minutes but as they were quiet (tuesday morning) Katie spent over an hour with me talking me through the varous applications and pros and cons of products on offer. The experience was something else, a magical hour and is something I sould have done long ago. Katie displayed the product she used but there was no obligation to purchase anything. Part of the purpose of the visit for me was to completely refresh my make up bag and I did buy several things. She managed to get me 2 for 1 deals on some products and overal I spent well within my budget. So there you have it, another milestone crossed for me, I'm on a high right now and will definitely do it again. Thanks to the various ladies on here and other forums for encouraging me,m I wouldn't have ventured the without you. If you're hesitating, don't!! Just go do it, you won't regret it.
It is amazing Allie, I think I'm hooked. What a difference a professional makes compared to my efforts. I'll be going back for more soon that's for sure.
