Hi everyone
As someone who has a little more midriff than is strictly necessary, I'm looking to invest in a waist cincher 🙂
I've worn them before when having makeovers/photoshoots and found them to be very effective. I feel it's time for me to have one of them in my life.
I'm looking for advice on good brands, tips on choosing the correct size and so forth ... but any other pointers that you can give me will be gratefully received!
Hugs

I wear them regularly. They do take a little time to get used to.
To give an idea of size, I'm just over 6'1" tall, 42 chest, 32 (on a bad day) waist and have fairly large shoulders - dress size I wear 18 but can get into a 16.
Cheap, but effective from Shein which are a hook and eye type with a small amount of elasticity. They tend to size quite small - I have a 32" waist and wear either L or XL.
Jacket type - looks like a waistcoat which fastens with hook and eye up to about diaphragm so plenty of space above for boobs. It does have a small amount of boning. Very comfortable for a day's wear with a little practice but you need to wear an outfit with sleeves or a narrow neck to hid the top where it goes over shoulders. You can also buy this type with a built in bra. I wear an L or XL.
Boned corset. You ned to measure for this. I have a couple of underbust corsets which are brilliant for adding shape. The longest I've worn one for is about 3 hours - I am wearing one in my bridal photoshoot.
Have a look at the brand "UnderWhere?" you can find them in TK Maxx or online.

I bought a Columbian waist trainer (aka faja) by Ann Chery on Amazon a few years ago. It's latex and very effective. And it will make you sweat. That could be good or bad depending on your expectations.

I have a waist cincher with bones in it and they get uncomfortable sometimes, digging into and irritating my skin. I'm looking for a new one with just mesh or stretch fabric, no bones.
Ellie, what I use is the same thing that Tracey @ Femme Side has available for her makeover customers. So no prizes for guessing where I first encountered it - as you may already also have done. It's latex-based, bone-free and the brand name is 'Esbelt'. From my Amazon purchase history, the model number is (ES)404. It's way better than the Chinese steel-boned Spandex things I used to buy, even if it was twice the price. In terms of sizing, underneath the bit of a belly that I use it to minimise, I'm a size 14 in skirts and trousers, and a Medium does it for me, which is sold as being for a size 10-12.
Ellie,
I bought a waist cincher from Amazon which I wear occasionally. It is comfortable, definitely effective as it has two methods of fastening, and rather cheap. In fact the price belies the quality, which I found to be very good. I have been using the cincher on and off for about six months now and it still looks in excellent condition.
Be wary of the sizing though, I have a 38" waist and use a 3XL; this gives good control for my size.
The product is described thus:
LAZAWG Waist Cincher for Women Waist Trimmer Shaper Workout Girdle Tummy Control Hourglass Waist Trainer
and may fulfil your requirements, especially as it's cheaper on Prime Week at £13.59.

Take a look at the Waist Hero from Honeylove lingerie . It has boning, adjustability and gives you a great hourglass shape .
I like Orchard Corset. They have great info on their site on how to measure yourself for a waist cincher and information on which models are best for crossdressers. They are also very responsive and helpful with any questions you may have.
I bought one once which was long ago purged. What I remember is don’t buy the next size smaller.
Plus they are designed to squeeze you into an unrealistic shape and so … more pain, more beauty.
Or we could just lose 15 or 50 or 100 pounds and look like Twiggy. (She was once my idea of the ideal female form)
Orchard has information about how to size a corset for men.
I would also highly recommend getting to some sort of ideal weight and staying there, in case you grow out of a possibly expensive purchase. This saves you from squishing out from under the top and bottom, too.
Inexpensive corsets usually have plastic boning, if any at all. This means that the lacing may cinch you in unevenly at the waistline. Stiff boning doesn't allow that to happen.
Hi Ellie, a good place to look is a company called Hourglass Figure, they specialise in lingerie and breast forms for crossdressers. Not only does she (Geraldine) sell cinchers but also has useful advice pages and you can contact her for further advice. It's worth a look, I have dealt with her in the past and can recommend her service......
I am fortunate to have some very firm, high-waist girdles which, when worn with a long-line (I use Triumph Doreen) bra, give pretty good waist definition and shaping. Obviously, you're very aware that you are wearing these things but it's what was regularly worn by many women in times past. A fully boned and laced corset would probably give even greater waist shaping but I doubt whether most of us would be comfortable to wear one all day under "modern" dress.
