I think I am asking the impossible here but would love to hear any clothing styles and tips that make a male body look more feminie without padding?

I have a fairly standard male body shape, wide shoulders, narrow hips and I really don't like padding, I have tried and it just feels so unnatural, for me, psychologically. I know a lot of girls on here look great with padding and I have nothing against it but padding isn't for me. And yes I know that cis-women come in all shapes and sizes but let's be honest there things we can all do to emphasise some parts and conceal others to get a slightly more classic girl shape.

I have one dress that I think looks fairly good on me, I still look like a guy in a dress but not in a weird way and I think some skirts and tops look okay. So any suggestions for clothing that looks more femme on a male body?

@butteryeffect Doesn't feel natural? This is crossdressing at its finest.

You can get used to pads very quickly. There are different kinds of pads, too. A bra is a sort of pad for crossdressers. It adds realistically to the hourglass illusion.

Otherwise, there are foam and silicone hip pads. I have a pair of long, sticky foam pads that I haven't worn yet. Waiting for the right circumstances. They should look good, though.

I use silicone pads most days. They certainly do add to hip width when set over the hip joint, adding to the hourglass illusion. They may be a bit on the too small side, though. Just wear something that keeps them secure. You don't want them flopping out on a sidewalk, some sunny day.

I also wear padded underwear, but the pads only do so much and I am not sure how well they look. The pads are thin, too, so I double them in their pockets. Just don't fall for their advertising pictures. They are fantasies.

Also, negative padding (corsets) can take off a few inches at the waist, again, adding to the hourglass figure.

If you want to change how you look, illusions and distractions are your friends. So, for example, to hide the typical wide male shoulders, don't go bare shouldered or wear some sort of shall, to cover them up. Use line or curve patterns to enhance your bottom half, make you look wider. If you are tall, then pleats will make you look taller. If you have attractive legs, then show them off, to draw eyes aways from the rest of you.

Talk to sales clerks about buying something that does what you want. They can be very knowledgeable and helpful. If something isn't in stock, maybe they can order something for you. Work with them.

Let us know how this all works out, please.

@harriette thanks for taking the time. As I said it is more a mental block than anything else for me. More about being natural than feeling natural, after all there is a lot about this that doesn't feel natural and I am good with most of it but hung up about padding.

@butteryeffect  That was kind of my point, Cathy. The more that you use pads, the less hung up on them you will be. Once inserted, you won't even notice them, either.

@butteryeffect Hi Cath.  While its not clothing, if you can spare the time and energy, I'd like to suggest no more than an hour, three days a week, every other day, in a gym doing weighted leg and hip movements.  Leg presses, squats and hip abductor exercises will add volume to you all in a right areas.  Whats great is, it doesn't matter if you've never trained before, you'll still get results.  As a bonus, if you've never done these types of exercises before you will actually see quicker gains than if you were training them all along, since growth kind of bottoms out after a certain point.  Just take things very slow at first, and gradually increase the weight as you get stronger and more accustomed to doing these exercises. I think you would be very pleasantly surprised of the changes in about six months or so. I was gifted with wider hips and a narrower waist then the average male myself and these types of exercises really have done wonders for me.

Hi Kathy,

I have no hips, and, guess what, I like it that way. Kathy, hip pads ain't me and it probably isn't you either.

Going out in public? Choose a reasonable location, wear lipstick and big sunglasses and just go for it.

Hi Cathy

There was in interesting article in the times recently about the right clothes for body types. Apparently for the inverted triangle (typical male shape) you need to avoid bulk on the top half and add bulk to the bottom half. So for example avoid baggy jumpers and skinny jeans and instead wear something like a fitted top with wide-leg trousers. The problem of course is that a lot of women's fashions are geared towards the opposite of the male shape and are designed for the pear-shaped so you see pencil skirts with balloon sleeve blouses etc. Also since men are usually fairly straight from the waist down, don't draw attention to the waist with a belt. Some other tips are: A-line vs pencil skirts, no shoulder pads, don't go mad with your breast forms and think separates rather than dresses.

This probably isn't an option but estrogen is amazing stuff.  I haven't needed any padding in over a year.

Avoid any tops with horizontal stripes. Unless its a couple around the waist.

Also you can get tops and dresses that have a curved side pattern. They give an illusion of curves.

What about underwear that has padding in it? I know it is still padding but I presume it is easier to use. I have no experience with either yet as I am still waiting for my hip pads and breast forms to arrive; I've only been doing this since December and have only a small wardrobe so far.

@rebeccabaxter perhaps it is something I should try. I know I am probably unusual (even amongst folk on here 😉) but its more of a mental thing with regard to padding than being about practicality or comfort.

@butteryeffect I feel the same way about the mental thing.  I just want to put clothes on without having it be an exercise in engineering.   For me it seems more and more like E is the solutuion....

Hi Cathy, this may sound both silly and obvious, but...accepting the body you have seems the best solution. I have what I consider to be a fairly 'solid' figure (my usual joke when complimented is that I'm the reigning Prettiest Linebacker 3 years running). The feminine look that I'm drawn to is a tall, slender look - long legged and elegant. A look that I will surely never have.

However, over time some people have specifically complimented me on that 'solid/thicc' sort of look. After a few of these sank in I realized that while what I have may not necessarily be the look I was drawn to, it is a look that some others are drawn to. Allowing that to settle in really changed my attitude towards my look and I think I'm much happier for it. It's almost guaranteed that out there are umpteen girls who'd die to have a figure like yours. 😉

A pleated dress or skirt in combination with a belt can do a lot.

I have a peplum dress that does wonders to give me some hips and hide my belly at the same time. I still need a little tummy-control under the dress but between the two the result isn't bad.

@finallyfiona TBH I don't mind a bit of tummy control, I must try a peplum

I too avoid padding in general.  In fact, aside from my breast forms, I use nothing artificial in my presentation .  That being said, I have been successful with altering my silhouette with dresses and skirts that flair out from the waist.  Peplum tops are another item of clothing that I have found to project a more feminine silhouette.

If you can't widen the hips, narrow the waist with a cincher or corset. It is padding, but adding some bit with great forms will help as well.

Of course you could wear a bustle.

A lot of CD or male butts could use a bustle (including mine)! 🫣

Other than the obvious breast forms, I dont use any padding at all. A drop waist cardigan has and always will be my "go to" when going public. That way no extra padding is needed.

I also agree with those that say separates give you a good look. skirt/blouse and the drop waist cardi break up your "silhouette /figure" so you look just like any other "mature woman".  Which I very much am

Dressing in private?? Of course you can be "whoever you want to be". But I still stick with my mental image of the "classic elegant mature woman" I try to be at all times.

Happy dressing, (How ever you want to)

"Nana" Caty.
