First, please forgive me, I never seem to do these posts correctly…

I am writing because every time I see a post about going for a makeover I wonder did you go in make up or not?

i could not go dressed en femme to a makeover without make-up. I would definitely be recognized as a man dressed as a woman. I just don’t need that kind of drama.

So what is the answer? Do they have some place where you can wash off your face and give them a clean face to work with? How does this work? What are the details no one ever writes about?

Thanks…

@cathryn I've not got any experience to go on sadly but I imagine that most people will arrive without any make up on. That's kind of the point really. If anything I would be more surprised if anyone turned up already made up & dressed as there wouldn't be much point in going if you were already that comfortable with it.

I assume you are planning to go for one if you are asking so I would suggest contacting your MUA as I am sure you aren't the first person they have seen with similar concerns.

& most of all, enjoy the experience.

@cathryn

Before my first makeover many years ago, I put on a girly outfit sans makeup and walked out the door.  Wearing makeup was a waste of time and good makeup.  I wasn't too concerned about being seen.  I paid my money beforehand, and I was going to get my money's worth, dammit!

Later I discovered nobody cares.  You're overthinking this.

@cathryn just had one recently. It was a five hour drive from home and stayed over half way. Left my hotel room I. The morning fully dressed with makeup. I will be posting more details and photos soon. Hope this helps.

@cathryn I went to a Sephora store fully dressed but with a very minimum of makeup.  Basically a tinted moisturizer and lipstick.  When I had made the appointment I asked if I should be wearing makeup when I arrived and they said either way was fine.  If you do go with a full face of makeup they will just take it off while you are in the chair so they can start with your real face.  That's why I kept it minimal.

@cathryn My first one, arrived in drab, got changed, went home in drab. After that' I've been getting braver. My most recent one, I subjected the world to full Anna mode on the walk back to my car and drove home. I'm not sure what anyone made of a very tall ginger chick.

I've got a makeup lesson booked for Friday which will probably end up driving home in Anna mode.

What I suggest is you make plans to travel to and from the makeover in the way that makes you feel most comfortable and wear what you'll feel right in whilst on the journey. The only thing you really need to make sure of is to make sure your beard is shaved as smoothly as possible. If you have ideas on how you want to look, share them with the MUA.

@cathryn I just wore some foundation and lipstick.   I did wear a pair of big sunglasses though.

@cathryn   You show go with as much makeup as you feel comfortable in.  Your makeover person can see what you are doing right or wrong and offer changes.  The salon will certainly have a restroom area for you to remove  your makeup. Don’t forget to take extra wigs if you want to try different looks.  Don’t be nervous, this is a happy experience.  Hugs

Hello Cathryn,

I haven’t done it in years, but when I did it years ago, she asked me to bring all my clothing with me, she provided a room where to change as she wanted me fully dress before applying the makeup.

i hope that helps, probably there will be some other advice. Best of luck.

Hey Cathryn, I went for a makeover about three weeks ago, and another last year. Have a look at my reports from both days:

https://www.crossdresserheaven.com/community/crossdresser-transgender-chat/well-at-least-i-still-got-to-my-makeover/

I've never been out en femme and certainly wouldn't have turned up wearing makeup. I was completely in drab. I didn't take any of my clothes. There was a huge selection to choose from. These professional artists are so expert and will do absolutely everything for you (including physically dress you, as I was rendered incapable of anything after she put my nails on 😂).

Have a look at my pics. It's a complete no brainer. I do so hope you manage to experience this. It was life changing for me.

Hugs, Chrissie xx.

I turned up for my makeover last week in drab, with a suitcase full of outfits that I wanted to wear for the photos, and another outfit to go home in, still made up.  Equally, I could have chosen entirely from the clothing stock in the studio and/or left in drab and with all makeup gone afterwards if I'd wished.  Or I could have arrived en femme and made up to my own ability, it would only have taken 5 minutes to remove to start again properly 🙂  Obviously you have to ensure that your face and neck are shaved as smooth as possible, but that's it.  Even body hair they will have ways to mask if necessary.

I have a makeover / lesson in which I will be going fully dressed as well as in makeup. I am sure she will fully remove what I have done. But I want her to see what I do to critique it so I can be better at it. I may also have her do some false eye lashes

Just coming back to this topic, I hadn't really appreciated what you were asking Cathryn. The word 'makeover' covers a whole range of services. My only experience is for the complete service. Makeup, outfits, heels, wigs, nails, the whole works. But I'm learning that some girls here are just after the makeup aspect, and would bring their own clothes, hair etc.

A couple of girls here have recently experienced this, with another scheduled shortly. Of course in this scenario I would assume you'd show up in drab and dress at the MUA's premises. I say vive la difference but for me I need the whole package. Heck, as you know, I don't even own any clothes or accessories 😢 xx.

I thought I was clear in my original post but I will make it very clear…

A make-up makeover…

No clothes, no pictures, nothing but how to better do my make=up.

@cathryn

It's easy to get wires crossed. If you just want a lesson in applying makeup, double check with your make up artist so they know exactly what you want out of the session. They are providing a service and getting paid for it. They'll oblige.

Lol, come to think of it, I ought to get a few lessons myself !

@cathryn Hello, I have a make over scheduled for next week at Sephora. I will be in drab and the Sephora website asks you to be free of any make up upon arrival if possible.

I have gone numerous times for just makeup application. There are no MTF transformation studios in my area.

It took a lot of time finding a mua who felt confident working with a male face and someone who was comfortable doing so. I eventually found one who has one of those studios where the space is in a strip mall and people can sublease smaller spaces within. So there can be a number of independent businesses within. It's a way for people who over personal services to have a storefront without incurring all of the expense.

So I would go in dressed but without makeup, it's usually a short walk from parking lot to front door and then another short walk inside. It can be daunting at first but just remember most people are caught up in their own world and likely won't pay you much attention. And then when you come back out you can then hold your head up and feel as pretty as you are.

Now if you were having to walk the length of a mall to get to a Sephora and then be sat in a wide open space that might be more than I could get the courage up for!

I have done three now.  I always go in makeup.  The first thing they do is take it off.  There is no way I am going out without makeup on.

I went to my makeover wearing Women's slacks. Ballet flats, a Bra, and I painted my nails, But I wore a Men's shirt, I did buy a blouse and a skirt and I put on my forms for my makeover and after makeover pictures and I also bought a wig.
