Of course it’s not that bad, it just seems like it. There are a number of truly simple and basic tutorials and a few for the chronologically advanced. Most importantly looking at all you beautiful girls I can see the effort is well worth it. Although it’s somewhat overwhelming right now, it’s still fun and exciting. : )
Makeup is fun and exciting…also can be overwhelming at times. I only use a color corrector for the beard shadow and then foundation, mascara, stuff for my cheeks and lipstick and I’m done
Haha I totes get it. I hardly get any time to practice my makeup skills and are still working on them. Dont worry about getting it right away. Remember most GG's have played with makeup since before puberty, and well, practice makes perfect for most. Just keep trying, and you'll get better.
Don't let yourself get put off by this. GG fight with this every day too. Everyone wants to look like the 20 something fashion model. Very few actually do and I mean very few. Keep in mind that beauty isn't always on the surface.
You are only human and all you can do is to just try to look your best and enjoy yourself.
Kristina, yeah, I'm pretty sure I know exactly how you feel about this one. I've watched a few video tutorials and it is overwhelming. They just keep adding another product, and another product, and another product. I only have a few of the basic makeup things currently, and don't really know how to use them that well. I need to find a tutorial that is more like, "How to do MTF makeup, with less than 5 products."
Really, if it goes much past, "Step 3" I probably won't remember how to do it anyway. 🙂
That being said, I still strive for, or at least dream of, being able to do makeup well enough to pass...

Stephanie,
Good suggestions! Amen to the sunglasses idea! It's amazing how much safer and confident I feel with sunglasses on my face.

For me it's a few simple steps
1. 2 hours industrial sandblasting
2.Get Bozo the clown to stop sueing me
3.Back to step one
4.Sit down take my time and I will slowly get it right
YES! You nailed it precisely.
We need to learn how to walk before running the 100 meter high hurdles.
I don’t see me as ever passing but a girl can dream, can’t she?
LOL! Great. Two more things I need to do. Buy a sandblaster and hire a lawyer.
Yup totally with you on this. I have no idea what I’m doing with makeup. Overwhelming doesn’t begin to describe the feeling.
I’ve found just focusing on one thing at a time is helpful. Like putting on lipstick or getting mascara on, but not necessarily practicing both in the same night.
Also, I have a middle aged face. Being a people watcher, I’ve now noticed that a lot of women I find attractive also have imperfect middle aged faces too. But they play up their good parts and minimize their weak parts. If I learn how to do that too at least half as well, maybe there’s hope for me.
LOL, I love the steps...They seem to e about right.
I have started looking for the LEAST that I can apply in an effort to cover the scrubby face, do my eyes in a way that isn't too Tammy Fae(for you young girls, Google her), and add a slight amount of contour.
I'm really trying to subscribe to the "less is more" approach to makeup since I'm not TRYING to look like I'm doing drag on the weekends...
Two best pieces of advice for this mess:
start with a clean canvas...scrub, shave, moisturize, prep...
Practice your little ass off.... do it, wipe it off, do it again...see what look good, see what doesn't...Practice.
HAve fun out there!

I don't know if this approach is viable and it does need a friend or SO that knows you CD and likes make up. I did the whole youtube tutorial thing till I had an idea of what I wanted to achieve.
On my first attempt I did - Primer, Colour corrector, foundation, fixing powder and my wife did the rest
I am now up to Primer, colour correct, foundation, fixing powder, brows, lips, blush/bronzer and mascara
The rest of eye makeup is still in the 'This is witchcraft' section of my life but I will get there, though my wife enjoys doing my eyes and enjoy her doing it so I am not likely to progress very fast.
Elephant eating - one bite at a time.
As much as I would love to try make-up, I'm worried I'd mess it up. Heck, I get freaked out when I stock the make-up section at work. I can't fathom how anyone could combine all the different color choices into a look.
HI Kristina Like anything worthwhile it is a bit overwhelming at first then it becomes second nature once you have practiced it. There are so many y tube videos on this subject. There are those just for woman over 40 then 50 and so on of course they are trying to sell their product or the product they are representing. You do not need hundreds of items just to get started Try just focusing on one part of your face at a time. Lets say your eye brows. Eye brows play a big part when trying to feminize you face. Take your time you have a lot of catching up to do. remember the gender you are trying to emulate has been practicing since they were very small girls. Enjoy learning what you have been denying, you deserve it
Luv Stephanie
I think we all can relate to this. I'm a big fan of YouTube. I've learned to do a lot of things watching YouTube videos. But some of the makeup tutorials are completely overwhelming!
I stick to a few basic products: moisturizer, primer, concealer, foundation (both liquid and matching packed powder) setting powder, blush, mascara, eyeliner, eye shadow, brow mascara and lipstick. Oh, and false eyelashes if I have the time.
I don't bother with beard cover because I'm older and it's now gray, so it's pretty easy to cover with foundation. And I don't bother with contouring because it is way too complicated.
As everyone else has already stated, the key is to practice, practice, practice. Oh, and don't poke yourself in the eye with your eyeliner! I've done that lots of times. Be prepared to make mistakes. Have plenty of makeup remover wipes and q-tips handy. Over time you will learn tricks to make it easier (I've learned to remove my contact lenses before doing my eyes and then pop them in after). Good luck, honey.
Hugs,
Elise
