Hi I'm Nick and I'm just starting out and am trying to learn how to get use to applying makeup. I just have a few questions

How do you apply foundation, beard cover, and concealer?

Which comes first or can I only use one?

Which order would I apply makeup?

How do I find my right shade?

I have a lot other questions but I decided to start small. Sorry about all the questions.

Nick your question will undoubtably receive some wonderful advice from a number of ladies here that are very good with makeup. I will give my $.02 worth and hope it helps.

First. Unfortunately cheap makeup sucks!!  Be prepared to buy some quality products.

Order. I go with beard cover first then a matte concealer to smooth out and give a blended finish. At this point I put my blush on. Last I use a good powder to even it all out and look finished.

As you get better you may find ways to put light concealer below and around your eyes while doing your beard cover and eyes and use highlights in your various concealers to help shape your features.

Good luck and have fun practicing.

Hi carolyne. What are the name of the products you use and where could I find them?

My go to beard cover is Demablend. You can get it at Ulta, Dillards or several other places. I have had GREAT luck with Mary Kay foundations and powders. Call around to your MK reps and be honest with them that you are a cd many of them will happily meet and work with you to match skin tones and colors. My only caution is they will try to sell all kinds of other items as well. I do love their lipstick and lip gloss but until you find your colors it can be expensive trying to much out. As for eyes I have pretty good luck with cheaper drug store brands. Be careful with blush or you can get stuff too bright. Mascara can be a trick finding what works for you but most good brands are OK. Make sure you budget for GOOD brushes!!  They make a huge difference in how everything goes on. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. I’m not an expert by a long shot but I have wasted a lot of money finding what works for me.

I am no expert on makeup, but have learned a few things about it. First thing I'd suggest, if you have the courage, go into a makeup store, or the makeup dept of a good drugstore, and ask for personal advice. The staff I've talked to about makeup at a few places have without exception been great. Helpful, and non judgmental. I know this means opening up a certain amount, but that way you can get foundation which will match your skin colour well. This important. I tend to tan well, so now I find I use 3-4 colours from Fall to Winter, through to Summer, but we are all a bit different.

Otherwise, do your best to find the right shade. Generally, you would put on a moisturizer first, perhaps foundation primer (optional), beard cover, then your foundation. I've found that a stick (rather than liquid) foundation works best, but that's personal. Smooth it out evenly over your and down to your neck.

Then you need to apply powder to highlight cheeks, etc. I use some rouge coloured powder on my cheek bones to make them stand out. Get a selection of a number of different colours.

There are many ladies here with much more experience than I, but I'll also say that the quality products I've bought seem to be worth it.

There also seem to be differing opinions on how to do makeup, as it is complex, with so many different products, and methods.

You Tube has so many that it gets confusing! The best thing is to watch and read, then jump in and start doing it, but lastly, less seems to be more.

How this helps.

Amy

I also use medium foundation from Demablend to hide my beard. I also use a pink cream blush to conceal my beard. Surprisingly, the pink blends into the foundation for a nice look. I also suggest using a good primer before applying any makeup.
