The most intimating to me, so far, is makeup.  Beyond painting my nails, which I am starting to get better at, I am clueless on what to get for my first makeup kit.  I want to start with something economical.  I know I am going to make a lot of mistakes.  I don't want to waste money.

Can you help me put together a list of things I would need to start wearing makeup?  Any advice for beginners doing this for the first time would also be appreciated.

With makeup, start at the end. 😉 Make sure you have a good makeup remover and cleanser. Once you've done with your makeup for the night, or day, make sure you remove all you've applied and give your skin a thorough clean.

Now, from the beginning, look for:
* a moisturiser, not too heavy
* a concealer to hide the beard shadow
* foundation. (It's best to get one that is matched to your skin but if you can't get it matched then chose a shade that is close to your own skin tone
* a bronzer or setting powder
* eye shadow (You can get combination kits of two, three or four colours)
* eye liner (liquids can take a bit to get the hang of)
* lipsticks (get a few different shades
* lip liner pencils
* mascara

If you want to do a fair bit of practice or experimenting then pick items in the middle price range. Cheap stuff is okay sometimes but often isn't of high quality. Most makeup will need to be discarded after about a year.

Hopefully this'll help you out.

Jane's list is perfect for a starter kit.  The only thing I would add is blush and use it lightly.  We tend to over do it when learning.  Also baby oil is an economical makeup remover.
