Hey ladies, I have decided I am not going to pay the high prices for makeovers like I have in the past when I was younger I was pretty good at putting on my own make up but it was pretty simple back then just blow us lipstick and mascara but I figure what I paid for one makeover. I can get my own make up and I will need a magnifying lighted mirror since I wear glasses now which I hate, and with the make up tutorials on YouTube I think I should be able to do an adequate job. What do you ladies think?

Hi, Jasmine.

I'm very much a beginner with makeup but even I, after four or five attempts, can see some improvement.

I had a look at your pics, from what I see, you're already way better than me so doing more should be a breeze 😊.

@jasminejeffries75    Jasmine, don't it and pay exorbitant money on a professional makeover, I've had it done twice at Ulta at $45 a shot, the first time was very mediocre and the second time I was dressed to the nines to go there before a Philharmonic concert. It was TERRIBLE, I was made up like a clown, a drag queen which is wat they assumed a mature refined woman going to a concert would wear and not attract attention. Wrong! Heavy blue eyeshadow that went out in the sixties, all I could think of is the orchestra playing " Send in The CLOWNs". After60+ year of crossdressing and going out in public (since4 age 14) I am well experience in Doing My OWN makeup much better than they can or do. I would get kicked out by interrupting them and telling them what to do and explaining the face pulling tape underneath. They do drag queens, not professional seasoned crossdresser.

@jasminejeffries75 Definitely do it, you will learn through practice and trial and error. I'm coming up on a year of wearing makeup and have improved a lot with it. A decent mirror, brushes, blending sponges and you've got a good start.

There are plenty of products out there to try.

If you're watching tutorials, I'd recommend finding one on contouring

Hugs,

Anna

Jasmine, I would definitely encourage you to start doing your own makeup. First, it is great fun to play and such a feminine pass time! Secondly, the more you play the better you get, doing makeup is an acquired skill. So my advice to you is, learn all you can, then practice what you have learned. Pay attention to the details, those little things that make a big difference. Your photos show a very pretty lady, use your makeover photos as a road map for doing the makeup your self.

I have been fascinated with makeup since forever! The very first time I ventured out as Genivieve I was asked the question, “who did your makeup”? When I replied, I did! The response was a very nice compliment. I was told that if I worked a bit on my voice, I could pass anywhere! So how is this for a lengthy response hun?
Good luck to you whatever you may decide!

@jasminejeffries75 Absolutely CORRECT! no need to spend a minimum of $46+ or more at Ulta, Sephora or any other professional place and have them try to upsell you to super inflated prices on, luxury brand name cosmetic and such when you can buy the same ones at drug stores, Walmart, Dollar stores and target. Do it yourself and you know your face better than someone else who might try and will make you up to look like a clown drag queen because she'll think that's what CD's do. Irt happened to me once to get ready for a philharmonic concert.

@jasminejeffries75 I think with some practice you will do just fine. If I can do it, anybody can.

there are a number of different magnified types of mirrors with lights on them that might help you. I’m fortunate that I can see up close without my glasses on. Like I had said when we were messaging last weekend, getting the right products for the beard shadow cover are a big part of it. I wish we could post pictures here in the actual thread for reference, but both Charlotte Tilbury and Huda beauty make some excellent color correctors that will work wonders hiding your beard shadow. The best thing to do if you are able to, is go into Sephora or Ulta beauty and have one of the associates color match the best corrector for your complexion. They range from orange to pink. The liquid and the cream both work really well I even use them together sometimes. it seems for me, once I overcame that hurdle the rest of it was pretty simple. Getting rid of your beard shadow will be huge and giving you confidence with your make up and increase your skills with learning how to bring out the best features of your face. I couldn’t have picked the color as good as the lady who helped me the last time. I buy the Sephora products when I can, but I do like expensive eyeshadow. Sephora didn’t offer any products for color correction so I went with what they had and I was very pleased.

The rest of it is just getting familiar technique with applying concealer and foundation. I never go crazy with eyeshadow just enough to do the job maybe a mix of a few different colors and I love Kat Von D mascara  I use a setting powder all over and also benefit makes a product called the porefessional and it will help hide minor imperfections, and also provides an excellent base for things like eyeshadow.

I think you’re going to do just fine with it Jasmine. Once you get the basics down, it’s just a matter of practicing.❤️❤️

@juststevie Stephanie thank you so much. I’m looking forward to actually doing my own make up. It’s been a lot of years. I usually go get a makeover but I don’t feel like spending the money. I actually have been watching a lot of tutorials on YouTube and I think I can do it if you see pictures of me, then that means I was happy with the results. Cross your fingers.

@jasminejeffries75 I really think you’re gonna be just fine. You can use your makeover pictures for a reference point. The tutorials will teach you how to put the make up on then it’s just a matter of doing it. I’m still trying to get better at doing my eyebrows. I don’t have the patience to draw them on the way some girls do and make it look so good. It’s a major pain and it takes a while.

I just tried to hit all the high spots and make it good enough lol. You’ll find out what works for you, but I would definitely go into a makeup store and have them match foundation concealer, and corrector to your complexion. I bought the Sephora brand for everything I could as far as that went. I bought a set of their eye make up brushes and they work just fine. You could even go to the dollar store and get something that will do the job without it costing a fortune.

You’re gonna be fine,  girl❤️

@jasminejeffries75 You will rock it.  may take a few tries to knock it out of the park but thats all part of the fun. a few things that made a big difference for me was poreless primer and finisher. nail the foundation and the rest is pure art. you got this girlfriend.  RC

@river

moisturizer first then primer, let both dry. Then apply any stick spot concealer coverage’s over heavy beard area, blend, then foundations ( couple of different shades to go with the planes and contours of the face . Blend, then do brush contouring in layers. Then lastly the eyes, shadows. Eyebrows eyeliner and finishing with 3 coats of mascara.

Complete the package if your New Woman’s face with brushing in loose translucent finishing powder. Next and finally he WIG- now look in the mirror 😮! You Won’t recognize the woman looking back at you😮😮😊🙂‍↔️.  My compliments

@jasminejeffries75 Hi Jasmine, feel free to take a look at my public photos, I've been doing my own makeup since I was a teenager, but took a 30 year break to get married and raise two kids. I am an intersex female and transitioned to living as the woman I was actually born as three years ago. I had to learn all over again how to do my makeup, and the best advice I can give is to look online at some of the great tutorial videos, and practice girl, practice as often as you wish, and you will get the look you want!

Hugs,

Ms. Lauren M

@reallylauren I will do that girlfriend. I also used to do my own make up when I was a teenage girl it wasn’t so bad it wasn’t as much contouring and stuff as there is now, but I’m looking forward to having some time to myself and playing with make up. If you see pictures I guess I’m happy with the results, thanks again for being there

@jasminejeffries75 Hi Jasmine

When I see your pictures I am pretty sure , no doubt you must to make your own makeup, I started this week , believe me, and it was fun and complicated, and making test and error , now I feel I'm in the right way, it is hard , and as someone else said on one post , makeup it is an art and one little mistake  can ruin all.

It is the price to looks beauty!!!

@jasminejeffries75 Hi Jasmine.  Tonight I'm sitting here with my face done up.  So far about $150 spent, and I know it's jut a start.  I want to wear it as much as I can at home so my skin (and my eyes) can become accustomed.  It's a little irritating around the eyes.  Maybe I did something wrong.  I can definitely feel the foundation and everything else.

There's a CD/TG event coming up and I'm hoping to be brave enough in November to go, and go out for the first time dressed.  I need to spend time with this makeup every night, and as as think of what a 60-something hopefully-handsome woman should wear, then I have that challenge as well.

Practice makes perfect , the more you do your own make up the better you will get . It took me a while to get my eye liner right and not to get mascara all over my face , a lighted magnifying mirror is a big help , just practice and you will learn as you go along.

This is a very good idea, like you say you will be able to buy a lot of makeup products with the money you save on not paying for a special makeover and you will learn a lot by doing it yourself you will have fun trying different looks and experiment until you are happy with your makeup look, it will take time to learn, so practice, practice, practice is the key and use quality products. have fun hun

I've been doing my own makeup for about 18mo.

Firstly, you'll find it incredibly liberating. The freedom to just get yourself ready at a moment's notice instead of having to schedule something on someone else's calendar is great.

As to the makeup itself, I'd suggest going to a makeup place and getting color matched. Lots of girls wing it and end up far too light or too dark - just get it done by a pro. I did this in guy mode - no one cares.

Once you have your supplies, I find that less is more. Pick a thing or two to highlight, but for the rest, just do a little. For me it's lips and lashes, but you find your own style. 🙂

@melodeescarlet I mentioned the same thing you said in my response. Go in to one of the make up places and have them color match you for foundation and corrector, etc. It took a couple tries to get it where I really liked the results, but I never would’ve picked as good as they did.

That’s really one of the toughest parts is getting the complexion right so you don’t look too dark or you don’t look like the phantom of the opera lol. Some great advice here in this thread and I’m by far no professional. ❤️

I have been doing my own makeup for 30 years and have changed how I do it over that time.  The struggle for me is when I see a really cute style I have no clue how to do it.  Makeup is very interesting to me in that sense, we go with what we know and are comfortable with.  I used to put on bottom eyeliner and now if I do it is only from the outside to my pupil if anything.   Knowing which brand to buy and which is best for my face is like blindly throwing a dart at a dartboard.  You look beautiful in your pictures so it should not be very difficult for you.

If your pictures are done by you then you look fine. If you've seen the tutorials online and perhaps get that color match then you will soon get the hang of it as you did in the past. Keep it simple at first and build on practice.

When I started there was no internet all I could do was to remember how my sisters used to do it and it worked out fine.

Jasmine, crossdressing is just like anything else.  The more you practice, work at it, the more you learn, and the better you’ll get.  I do remember the first time I did my makeup.  I looked really awful, but I had fun making my myself look bad.  After that I kept studying the way ladies on the news were getting their makeup done, and I tried to duplicate what they had done.  It’s amazing how good they can look, but I remember watching them broadcast from home during Covid, and they didn’t look good at all.  That’s what happens when someone does things for you.  I know you can do this and you’ll not only be beautiful, but you’ll have a ton of fun doing it.

Practice, practice, practice...but with time and practice you will do a fine job.

I do not wear make up often enought to get good at it, so keep my self-applied make up simple. If I want to go out dressed to the nines, I have a makeover, which in and of itself is fun and I enjoy just surrendering myself to the MUA. So far I have been satisfied each time.

I have a lighted magnifying mirror which helps tremendously. And I also wear glasses but this works well. I had a very patient gal help by writing out detailed instructions-in a language I could understand. So that was my start. But since, I have developed some confidence and I fully agree with others that practice is the best way to improve. I have had good experiences at Janet's Closet in Detroit for makeovers and Ulta in Louisville as well. I think you look quite pretty in your pictures, so you are doing something correct. And remember, we are our worst critics.

Hi Jasmine!

I love doing my own makeup. It’s part of the whole transforming thing for me and I really enjoy doing what I watched my mom, sisters and wife did/do growing up to now! My wife couldn’t believe I knew how to do makeup when I first presented Lisa to her years ago. She was very shocked, surprised and impressed!

I buy my makeup at MAC and the girls have been very helpful with everything. Before I bought from them, their lead girl saw me while I was dressed and shopping, and she complimented me on my makeup as I was passing by her counter. It wasn’t until I stopped and engaged her in conversation that she realized I was a cd and she totally lit up! She loved my look and was so flattering towards me without even trying to make a sale. I went back a month later in drab and asked her for help with the products and foundation match for my skin. She was blown away to see me in guy mode and couldn’t recognize me. We had so much to talk about while she was trying shades and concealers on me right there in front of anyone passing by! I’m now a regular customer and she introduces me to all her girls when I’m there. I really like her! She’s a huge confidence builder.

Back to makeup, as some of the other girls have mentioned, YouTube has tons of tutorials and I’ve found them very helpful. I’ve saved several that I refer to when I’m needing a refresher course!

I hope you have as much fun doing your makeup as I do. It’s been a fun time for me and makes me feel like such a girl!

@lisagurlll   I had the same pleasing accepting experience at  the malls Clinique store and had two makeovers at Ulta which were expensive and not satisfying. I knew more about my face and how to apply the colors , blending for s well groomed business woman rather than have them overdue it like a drag queen. I CAN do mine better, been doing it for 50+ years.

I’ve found an unorthodox friend for make up in ChatGPT. I can quickly narrow down the plethora said makeup options by listing needs. Knowing I am AMAB, my age, my skin color, etc, I get great advice. I scan the. Go to Amazon or YouTube and quickly find what I want. ChatGPT remembers it all so can help me match makeup. It does style too!

Hi Jasmine.

I do my own makeup from Harrisburg. I had taken a course before, but I had never put it into practice because I didn't do much makeup before this year. I took advantage of some lessons and tips at Keystone and Esprit. I enjoy the experience and the results.

Gisela

PS: I'm kind of curious about makeovers and I think I'll get one at some point.
