Anyone tried dying a synthetic wig? Did it work? What did you use?
I've received a wig today and I'm really not keen on the colour, it's blond(ish) and it just doesn't suit me. I can return it but I'm wondering about dying it in some freaky streaks instead.
I've not tried this, but from reading an article on the subject, the consensus is that dyeing a synthetic wig is going to need a product that would change the colour of plastic.
Reading through the article it sounds a bit of a faff to me.
I believe there are some sprays available that will do the job. Check the usual online purveyors.
@rebeccabaxter I've found Alex Poletti on YT to be pretty reliable. She has a video on wig dying. Search for HOW TO DYE A SYNTHETIC WIG.
Disclaimer: listening to her is a bit like mainlining sugar.
My wife is a cosmetologist of 30 plus years, she say's that it is not possible to dye a synthetic wig.
Hi Becca, I have done lots of dyeing and painting of costumes and fibers and in fact even a few synthetic wigs (which only sort of worked). I say sort, of since the color of plastic is in the original melt and dyeing on plastic is just surface. I've had better luck with spray painting but still it's just so much easier to buy the color needed. So, I vote to return it and try again. Good Luck, Marg
