The Face App gender swap filter has been all the rage recently with folks gender swapping celebrities and movie characters. I thought I would give it a try. I've used the similar filter in Snapchat which is OK.

Wow. I couldn't believe the results. One big difference between Snapchat and Face App is that Face App preserved my face shape (Snapchat narrows your chin and makes your eyes bigger which means the results are fantasy). The results in Face App really looked like me and I couldn't stop staring at it. Many of the other effects (hair styles, makeup, etc.) require upgrading to the Pro which I eventually gave in and did.

Here's why this is important to me. I feel great in women's clothes. But I always felt like my facial features didn't really lend themselves to makeup especially in a way that I could be happy with how I looked in the mirror. So, I have never bothered to look into even the basics of makeup. The Face App results showed me that I could look really good with the right makeup. I kept switching between the before and after and I was really impressed to the point that I'm seriously wanting to learn makeup.

But, I have no idea where to even begin. I wish stores were open that I could just take this to a professional, show them the picture, and say "That. Do that.". But, we're still locked down and even as things are starting to open it's not worth the risk to me (yet) for a make over even if I was brave enough to do it.

How do I get started?

Hi Rynn

I had the same thoughts and validatiin when I tried faceapp, my profile pic is the result.

The biggest thing for me was the difference it made in what I thought I wanted in wigs. I too am using it as a target.

I just went and downloaded the app solely because I saw this post...and I'm blown away! I had no idea my masculine facial structure could look so beautiful and feminine. Definitely adding make up to the ever growing list of things I need to work on.

I think most CD's underestimate their looks and have no idea what good makeup can do. I was one of them. My attempts were pretty bad, but I wanted to see what a pro could do. 2 years ago I went to Gina Jett in Los Angeles. I wasn't expecting much. What I got was life changing! Everything I felt inside was validated when I looked in the mirror. Since then there's been no turning back.

Rynn I'm glad you found Face App and have seen what's possible. I think it'll be pretty easy to find your way into a salon when the time is right....

So what can you do in the meantime? Well, the drug stores are still open. You can still buy makeup and the drugstore variety is what you need to practice with. It's cheap. You'll waste a lot. Go buy some. Check out some YouTube videos by CD's and drag queens to get an idea what you need. The gurls doing the vids know the products and techniques that work. Get the right color correction for your beard. It's important. Get some decent brushes. Practice. When you have your first makeover, you'll know enough to ask some good questions. Maybe even turn it into a lesson.

Good luck and have fun! I'm off to check out Face App!

Emily

In my Gallery, my pictures are FaceApps. Seeing my FaceApp picture for the first time was life changing. I felt like I was looking into my soul. A face that was suppressed for 50 years. I printed some of the pictures out. My wife said that I look beautiful and she kept one of the pictures. I put one in a frame and it's on my desk at work. I like to gaze at it when I am having a bad day and it reminds me of how good things are deep down inside me. If someone had shown me my FaceApp picture when I was 18, I would not be male now. Since seeing my FaceApp picture last February, my life path is changing.

Oh I never thought of using those pics. I changed my profile pic. As a "lady" my pics are limited to 5. Is there a way to remove some of those?

Hi Rynn, thanks for the tip about Face App.  I just tried it.  I selected one of my photos of me in drab from my gallery and it assumed I was female and made me more masculine; that was really funny.  Then I asked it to make my photo more feminine and there was only a slight difference.  I guess my natural "male" look is pretty feminine and why many people assume I'm female without me trying very hard.  All in all a very good thing.  But I'll play around with Face App some more, looks like fun.  Thanks again, stay healthy, stay safe, Hugs, Krista

Using face app and then downloading You Makeup Cam is a great way to test out different looks

First I'd heard of FaceApp was the stories about the security concerns over it, so I was reluctant to try it at first. But seeing all the beautiful pics on here and elsewhere, I knew it was only a matter of time before I gave in and tried it myself. The results are definitely impressive! What I would have looked like as a girl is a thought I've always been obsessed with, and now I feel like I finally have something of an answer, thanks to that digital black magic. None of my pics as of this post are using it, but I'll probably post some FaceApp pics soon.

I've still only dabbled in makeup so far, and I can't help thinking the results from FaceApp are at least a little beyond what's achievable with makeup only for me. Still makes me really want to try!  You can find a lot of good videos on YouTube searching for things like "male to female makeup" Here is one of my favorites:

My profile pic is a result of FaceApp. As soon as I saw it, I loaded it to the site so I can see her everyday.

I haven't used faceapp, but I love doing make up. I am lucky to have a wife who is good at makeup and she have me some basic tips, i.e the core items I would need and how to apply foundation, contour, mascara etc.

But there are plenty of videos on YouTube.

I am still not great at doing my eyes, but the base look I am quite pleased with. I want to progress to a full drag queen face, but glueing eyebrows I have yet to get right lol

Face App was a huge validation for me. I was instantly in love with the girl I became. And it's easy, and fun!

I agree, faceapp results are quite impressive and, agree " aspirational." With a really good makeup job I think the results could be close although changing yourself to look like you're 20 years younger will be very very difficult. But I have seen from personal experience a former colleague who worked as a female impersonator as his other job and you wouldn't even recognize him before and after his makeup. However, it requires a lot of skill and expertise to achieve those results.

As a side note, when I showed my brothers the results they get all "weirded" out, like "I can't unsee that."
