@dustytumbleweed

I'm just beginning to use makeup so I've been looking at lots of YouTube videos. Top be honest, I don't know if it's a good thing or not, my attempts don't look much like the makeup artist's!

There are, however, at least a couple of bearded guys who have channels, just search for male makeup artist.

Well, since she doesn't know about your crossdressing, you do have a problem, especially if you plan to go outside. What you end up doing will depend on a few things.

There are those who continue to mix the two, like a young man that I saw on the street with a full 7" beard wearing a dress. I believe @hippie also ignores what people think of him with a beard, in public. Not to be too crude about it, but that takes some balls.

Or you could keep your beard and modify how you present yourself. For example, I have a full moustache but dress androgynously with selected women's clothes. Sort of like having things both ways. This might also be a good way to deal with your wife still being oblivious of your crossdressing desires.

You could also slowly shrink your beard, getting smaller and smaller over time. Listen for howls of complaints and, if there are none, keep shrinking the forest until there is nearly nothing left to bother keeping any. Gradually is the key word here.

Let us know how you go about dealing with this, so that others here can learn from your experience.

@harriette I actually ended up shaving my beard to try makeup on. My wife didn’t like it much and i told her about my crossdressing. We compromised a bit. She says she is okay with my crossdressing as long as i shave my beard  and she doesn’t want to see me dressed up. So i guess that good enough for me at the moment. She might crompomise a little more on down the line. She already has here eye in some eye shadow i bought for myself. She also said i can borrow some of her boots and shoes she got from torid. Surprisingly enough we wear the same shoe size.

@harriette got a few wigs and getting better at makeup. Had to grow the beard back at my wifes request. She is giving me makeup advice and rather see me in ladies pants and shirts than dresses. So I may have to buy some sexy pants along with my dresses.

@dustytumbleweed Makeup Addiction on Reddit gave me a lot of tips that have been useful.  If you feel comfortable, you can try going to a store life Ulta or Sephora and ask for help.  They are used to getting requests like this from folks like us.

Ah, the perennial problem -- drab facial hair vs CD clean.

For years  I had a beard. My wife said without it, I looked like my mother and that if I ever shaved it off, she'd get her nose pierced. At the time, I hated nose piercings so we were at a standoff.

Roll on the start of my cross dressing activities. Lovely clothes, and a frigging beard; how could I ever hope to go out in public?!

The answer came all by itself. On a trip out to the local piercing clinic where she was going to get another ear done, she mentioned that a particular piece of jewellery would look nice in her nose. My reply was instant and decisive. "Ok, sod it, get your nose pierced but I'm shaving my beard off tonight!"

The standoff was at an end, she wanted the piercing and could see there was no room for manoeuvre.

I shaved it off that night and that was that. Never grown it back, never will.

**************************************************

Now, this is all very well, but doesn't really help you get your way.

When you say she doesn't like you without facial hair, how much does she not like it? A little bit, a lot, or 'shave it off and I divorce you?'

Does your wife actually know you cross dress?

@rebeccabaxter

It was nearly 40 years since I last shaved and my wife told me then to grow it back....quickly.

However, I'm going out en femme in October, with her blessing and encouragement so that's meant the beard's off and I've got my first couple of bra's and forms. I'm actually quite enjoying the smooth face, the shaving not so much...I mentioned in another post, how my bathroom looked like a crime scene the first few shaves!

Ah, that's a bit of a snag.

No chance you could start to introduce Dusty in some way? Many on here have experience of coming out to their SOs.

check out youtube videos.  You might want to start small and slow in seeing how she feels about cross dressing

@dustytumbleweed good idea to do this as your friend will be supportive, I would expect. I do know a guy with a beard who always has immaculate makeup on. I know him from the running circuit. Even after a brutal, hilly 5k he looks immaculate.

You could start with trying something round the eyes in neutral colours or very light contouring but your drag queen friend will most likely be able to help with this.

Don't forget the means to remove the makeup and also a decent cleanser.

However, be careful if this is something you are keeping just for yourself

@annaredhead @dustytumbleweed

I would add moisturiser to your list, I've found that makeup and/or the cleanser can dry my skin. Oh, maybe it's the shaving or everything!

@alexina My skincare routine:

1. shave with grain, shave again against the grain

2. exfoliate face scrub in shower - I tend to get dry skin

3. (no makeup day) moisturiser

3. (make up day) quench cleanser and rinse then moisturise, allow to dry

4. (make up day) primer mist

5. at night after make-up removal - cleanser

I now shave daily which I never used to before makeup came along

@alexina ooh getting dolled up is a leisurely process for me. I can always paint nails whilst waiting for my skin to absorb the products
