Hi, these two have been a pain in the arse, finding the right color, I either end up too... Pasty or too orange, what is the best way to find the right color to go with my skin tone ?
The best way to check is actually trying it out on your face in both natural and inside lighting. If you are not at the point where you want to try and ask for help try to find a color you think is close and buy the color on either side of it as well.
I also found that sometimes I could not find the right color from a certain company, an example is that I am sure I tried every color of foundation from Covergirl and could never get a decent match then I tried Maybelline and found it almost instantly.
Cynthia.
The best thing to do is go to a professional makeup counter orstore like Sophora or Ulta (in the US) and ask. I know this will be difficult but someone who knows the products will be able to pick the correct colors and product(s). There are so many choices out there you can easily get overwhelmed.
I have very close friends who work for Lancome and they have absolutely no problems helping men pick something for themselves. We have talked about this and they are 100% good doing it and no questions asked. Yes you are a customer and sale for them but the Trans spectrum of people is nothing new to them. Even there top National Makeup Artists who travel around the world work on everyone including trans people plus there fantastic at.
Give it a go-I'm sure you will be happy you did

“Foundation & Concealer”. Er, if you’re finding them a “pain in the a**e”, perhaps you’re applying them to the wrong part of your body. Hope that this is helpful. We Brits are always ready to supply our trans - Atlantic sisters with advice! Gilly.
I second Cynthia on finding the color but I also have to shades I use. When I dress in the winter I tend to go to one shade lighter thank what I use for the summer. So say put you hand up to your face in a couple different lights and see how close they are to your facial color. Then I go to the store and by a good but inexpensive color say like cover girl brand and you buy a color close to your hand shade (if close to you face color) and get one each direction. You will still be able to use at least one of them at a different time of year. As for concealer if you are trying to conceal beard or just facial marks it is better to go with just a little lighter color which concealers come with a lot more hiding (more pigment in the solution) then that area tends to pop a little brighter. If you are looking for hiding of the beard you need to look for a more orange color to hide the blue of the beard. Then your foundation will blend the concealer in. See the article Beard shadow be gone by Sarah Daniels on this site.
Good luck and enjoy the fun of makeup it is the best part of being a woman.
Hi Nora, the correct way to test foundation is against your jawline. Of course this is always not convenient so second way is to try it on your wrist. If you have Blue veins then you have a cool skin tone, if green you have a warm skin tone 🙂

I just found a new MAC foundation, it's all I will use from here on out. It covers my beard perfect, and applies with ease. I have used/tried a few brands and what have you, but this was a wow product for me!
Hope this helps, SR
