I've been using Faceapp as a tool to compare my pitiful attempts at makeup with possibilities of what could be achieved if I put in the effort.

By uploading a picture from my gallery of my finest MUA moments, I have successfully proved to myself time and time again that the machine always wins, and my makeup skills barely register on a scale of 1-1000 in terms of feminisation.

I like the fact that the app lets you save the before and after images as a single photo, and have spent some time looking into this mirror of Erised.

Last night I spent almost 2 hours on my look - and I am still kicking myself a bit for not capturing the final look, which I believe was better.

When I clicked on the gender button and chose female, there was no appreciable difference !!!

Now thus us hardly a boast, as, obviously, this means that the app could find no way to enhance the picture - so the logical conclusion is that the original is unfeminisable. Hardly a compliment...

But I do love the look - despite the fact that I went for green, green and more green (for a special night out!).

The major change I made was to swap the lip colour, because the green lipstick I had was a bit patchy, and refused to unpatch - when I tried to fix things, the colour just moved around, leaving patches in different places... oh well!!

But the feminisation button is beatable by a human! It had no work to do - so my work is done.

I got so many compliments on my makeup that maybe my skills were the deciding aspect after all.... yet I look at the photos and still see a guy with a 5 year old girls' makeup skills... apart from the contouring and blending, which I totally nailed with a lot if help from Coty's Airspun powder and a matte setting spray!

My eyes still look like wonky pandas, and I cannot control a lip pencil...

Onwards and upwards, girls!

Has anyone else managed to beat the demon app?

What MUA skills are giving you the biggest challenges (don't say all of them!)?

😘😘😘

Laura

At the moment I'm sufficiently elated when FaceApp accepts that I'm female! The makeup challenge is one I need to work up to. But you go girl! Well done.

Love

Well done, Laura, I haven't used the app, so no response there, but as for you still seeing a man in the mirror, we are our own worst critics, and I see in you, a beautiful woman

I haven't used the app up to now, Laura, but this sounds like an interesting challenge and a whole lot of fun too!  I may just have to give it a go...

I use faceapp too and if I wear a wig and take a photo, the only option is gives me in gender swap, is male! LOL

Oh, that's next level stuff, right there, MJ - well done you!

That's the next goal for me - when I upload a picture and the gender swap only allows "Male" - then I'll know I finally got the better of it, lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The way I use it as a learning tool is to either feminise a picture of me en femme - to get ideas on how I can improve, or to upload a male picture to a makeup app like You Cam, which allows you to try hair styles as well as makeup, and feminise that.

You Cam is fun, as you can try different eyeliners and shadows, contour, blusher, lipstick and see what works for you - or go nuts with an experimental look.

Doing it yourself is quite tricky, at least, for a noob like me - but I took some ideas to an MUA, who worked an absolute miracle!

Having seen some of the looks created on Glow Up (BBC), I really want to have some fun with makeup for evenings out - there are some amazing artists out there, and I love a challenge!

Yeah, but I wasn't even trying, I only had a wig, no makeup. LOL

Well, I had a go with Faceapp today, Laura...

Gave me two male options and then a female option, which, like yourself, had no discernible effect!  So really feeling quite pleased with myself right now 🙂

Thank you.
