I tend to wear a shorter wig as it's more practical and hold's shape for a whole day better. I've got a couple of longer wigs that I'd like to accessorise and style, but struggling to get anything other than an alice band to stay in place. Scrunchies or slides fall out in no time. Has anyone got any advice or suggestions on what would work, please?

Thanks,

Anna x

@annaredhead Hi Anna, I have similar issues and have found that it largely depends on the wig I'm wearing. Some are more amenable to being clipped than others.

Most of my wigs are cheap items from Amazon, so that probably explains a lot 🙂 I find butterfly clips are pretty good. I have had some success with 'clippy' hair slides, although if the hair filaments are too thick it's difficult to get them to stay put - same problem if I want to tie the wig back (or up).

@annaredhead Anna, I tie a thin scarf around my wig (I wear it like a hair band, stretching from the base of my head at the back, under the hair, to the top of my head in the front NOT like a 1960’s scarf or a sweat band around the forehead and temples!) - key note, it has to be made of thin material.  It seems to keep my wigs in place, is a hair accessory (the bow can be on top or at the back with long strands of thin lacy material dangling down and you can colour match it to your outfit) and it helps cover the hairline if need be.  Its feels very feminine to wear.

Hugs

Christine

I find that scrunchies do stay in and have some day to day ones and others with bows. I twist them three times and they stay put all day.

Anna, in my experience nothing works better than flat metal alligator clip.  the longer the better.  I wear hairbows a lot and have replaced lower quality clips or slides on some of my bows with alligators for better hold.  I will also sneak in a bobby pin or two to help keep everything in position.  It also may depend on how much hair you are trying to hold and where you are pinning it.  since I also wear shorter wigs, with my bows I will (very carefully!) slide the clip into the gaps in the cap or wefting.  with the clip holding the hair and the base of the wig, its very secure.  Jill

@jrm3702 If I may say so Jill, you look fabulous in your photos. Your hairstyles always look great - complimenting your outfits perfectly... Not that I'm jealous at all! 😉
