I have synthetic wigs. I have a really tough time keeping them looking good not to mention untangled. True I am inexperienced in wig care, I do comb and brush them out but thats what causes the fraying. Yes I start at the bottom and work up. Yes I have tried different brushes, combs, etc. There has to be something out there like conditioner that makes it easier to comb/brush out. All of these questions lead me to the real question; Do any of you sleep in your synthetic wigs? How many days does it take to get it untangled? Or is it better just to dump it? Mikki
Mikki,
I have four different wigs for different occasions. I brush them out before and after each use, and I use a pick comb to get out the nasty tangles. They can be washed in warm water and mild soap; non-scented dish detergent (hard to find) is best although some on line outlets sell wig shampoo.
I have two wigs I can sleep in. One is long haired the other short. I use a soft hair scrunchie to hold the long hair together and that works well. Yes, like real hair, things are a bit messy when you get up but seeing myself in the mirror always gives me a laugh and helps wake me up.
The trick is to make sure things are brushed out regularly, otherwise getting them untangled can take hours.

Thanks for your input. I do a pretty good job of keeping up with the brushing and combing, but they eventually begin to die and it makes me sad.
somewhere out there is something that will allow wig tangles to fall untangled while brushing. I may be staring me right in the face but its there somewhere.
I don't have good experience with them lasting much longer than a half dozen wearings or so without them starting to become tangled and frayed. Granted I probably don't take as good of care of them as I should, so I just keep buying new one all the time. I think half of mine need to be pitched because they have knots in them...lol! Also, I've been trying to reply to your shoe message you sent me but it keeps telling me there was an error in trying to send it. I'll keep trying. Talk to you soon, Dear!
You can rejuvenate a synthetic wigs, and "rejuvenate" is the key word. There are a lot of videos that show you how. I even done this myself and it does work. I do have to warn you, it will coast you money to buy all you need.
Oh, my, yes, I DO sleep in my synthetic wig(s)! And a wonderful feeling it is, too! Over the past few years, it’s gotten so that I can’t really think about going to bed without wearing one. (Along with other femme nightwear, of course.)
And, of course, the fastest way (in my experience) to a shabby wig, is to sleep in it. So, the two or three wigs I have for sleeping are dedicated to just that…. sleeping. They are all wigs that I’ve “retired” from daywear.
Like Leah, I comb out all my wigs after each use, especially the “sleep” wigs. But I am probably a poor caretaker of my wigs. As you said, it is the combing and brushing that causes the fraying (in my experience). My “daywear” wigs, under this combing regimen, have been lasting for about two, close to three years; after that, they are repurposed as “sleep” wigs – and a year or less of that, and they’re ready for the dust bin.
I have never tried to “rejuvenate” any of my wigs, but I do wash them every now and again to get that lovely fragrance of clean, women’s hair. I use over the counter shampoos and conditioners, and although these do not actually recondition the wig, the fresh scent makes them even more pleasant to wear.
I always sleep in pantyhose. been doing that since I was maybe 5. When I got my own place at 18, I began to really take my dressing to a whole new level. I began to buy and wear a lot of sexy and exotic lingerie that I loved wearing with my pantyhose, especially to bed.
When I bought my first pleaser pumps, I could barely stand in them. I had to get used to them and break them in. I would sleep in them to have them on my feet as much as possible. I found I loved waking up in sexy pumps, silky sheer to waist pantyhose and sexy lingerie.
Then I decided why not go the all out route and sleep in my bra and wig too. I was wearing them before I went to bed. Just keep them on. The bra sometimes would get uncomfortable. I would change into different bras that didn't get uncomfortable at night and those became my sleeping bras.
I would often fall asleep in my wigs too. Some of them fell off. Others were tight and I woke up with a headache. As I began building my wig collection I found I had a few that I didn't think looked all that good on me but fit comfortably. I would wear those to sleep.
There was just something wonderful and special about waking up silky pantyhose, sexy pumps, sexy lingerie and, bra and pretty hair. In all honesty though, the heels often got tangled in the blankets and the wig often fell off. I would just take them off. When I woke they were nearby and I would just put them on.
Thanks for the input. It's all good to learn things that may help me along my way.
I understand that some CDs feel the need to be as close to womanhood as possible but getting dressed to go to bed seems pointless, uncomfortable and extremely unhygenic to me. I would also worry that a smelly sweaty wig would lead to premature baldness 🙂
