Ladies,

I've progressed in my high heel wearing up to three inch not-quite-stillettos and have a nice collection.  One of my favorites is a lattice work pair with a back zipper.  The straps of the lattice aren't adjustable but they do have decorative buckles.

My issue is that when I wear pantyhose with these shoes my foot tends to slide a bit in the shoe.  Bare feet is fine; no slip and I can strut very nicely, but when I put on a pair of sandalfoot pantyhose the foot tends to torsion a bit in the shoe, putting me off stride.

Any suggestions?

Leah

@altrealtraveller I imagine that this is a common problem for most people who wear a shoe with raised heels.

For feet to move anywhere, there has to be some amount of extra room - slop. Men's shoes with laces don't, generally, have this problem because the laces snug the shoe's upper around the feet. How you deal with the looseness will depend on where the extra space is.

For example, the Clarks brand of shoes size 11 tend to have the exact right length to fit my boney feet snuggly without socks. There is only 1mm difference in the length of my two feet, so that usually is not a problem. Barefoot (maybe with blisters from tight spots) or stockings are OK. Their wide width is still slightly too narrow, so I use a good shoe stretcher.

One of my latest Clarks purchases with side zippers has one shoe that does not fit snugly. Why? This is not typical. Is there a mismatch between the two sides? It seems that there is a slight difference in the height of my arches, so the shoe that has a loose heel doesn't let my foot move forward as much as the other foot. The right foot jams the toes into the front of the toebox, but the heel fits snugly. That Is illogical.

Similar to your problem, can the shoe with the loose heel be "fixed" with adding a small foam pad to the top of the shoe's cloth arch area inside of the shoe? It should move the foot back a bit, right? I haven't found a thin memory foam pad to try. I also want to see if the bottom and middle of the heel area can be snugged up, to stabilize my heel, too, because the foot isn't safe flopping around.

I have some gel wrap-around heel pads that I have used on other shoes, but without laces to tighten the upper around the foot, some shoes will always be loose. Air Jordan high heels, anyone?

The higher the heel the more likely your foot can move forward, but it depends on the shoe and where the shoe fits snugly, what holds back the foot.

There is one gel foot pad that fits laterally across the shoe at the base of all of the toes like a ridge. I haven't tried them yet, to know if they actually do their intended job - keeping the foot from moving forward.

Why am I saying all of this? Because life is not perfect or fair and neither are shoes. This is one reason that I don't buy shoes on-line. There are too many problems with fit or pain.

If the shoe fits, though, wear it.

I find if you can adjust an ankle strap on the heel you do not get that issue I always wear stockings with my heels. I can wear 5" heels with a bit of a wobble but 3 to 3.5" heels are my go to these days. They make my legs look better as my wife informs me and gives a certain wiggle as I walk. My wife spent a good amount of time ensuring that I walked properly.

I hear you, girl. When barefoot the heels stick to my foot, but nylons create that sliding effect, and unless the heels already fit perfectly that's no bueno.

I've not found anything that bring it up to the level of being barefoot, but I have found some improvement with gel pads for both the heel and ball of your foot (sometimes sold in sets on Amazon). They let your foot sink into the pad and slide less on the down step.

@melodeescarlet I've done that too with some success.  I've also done the hairspray but don't like the residual in the shoe for later.  For really desperate measures I have tried a pad made from double sided carpet tape or light picture hanging tape put on the bottom of my foot before I put the pantyhose on.  Then as I walk the little bit of sticky moves out between the fiber weave and adds some grip.  It takes some experimenting but unless I'm really set on a look, I just change shoes.  Hope that is of some help.  Marg

I find sticking to 3 or 3.5 inch heels is enough. I can't go any higher anyway as my knees won't take it and I just look like Bambi on ice if I try. With a max of 3 1/2" my walk is fine, I am balanced and the heels are perhaps more comfortable than my flat, male trainers.

@rebeccabaxter

My look is "at the office". What works well for me is a 2 1/2 inch heel. Low enough to walk, but high enough to be sexy in a professional sort of. A girl has gotta be a girl, after all.

I seldom wear open toed heels with hose, but I do have a couple of pairs where I do and with those, I put those foam pads in them.  They help, but if you decide to wear them barefooted, the pad wears out.
