Hi all,

The next step on my journey is makeup, oh but where to start, and there's just so much of it.

The more I research, the more confused I get, and when I go shopping for it in person, I stand there staring at it all, trying to work out what's what, and then I start getting self-consicious about some guy standing and starting at womens makeup.

So many colours, shades, products.

cleanser, Primer, foundation, concealer, bronzer, blush, eye liner, lip liner, lipstick, mascara, eye shadow, etc, etc

And then, there's all of the shades of each product.  Oh my goodness....

Do I just buy one of each product in 3 different shades?

Is there a begineers guide to the beginners guide of makeup?  as it seems even the begineers guides I've been reading are even too advanced for me?

I think I've worked out that there's a trial an error element to finding colours that match your skin, but where do I begin.

So I was wondering, can someone give an angelo white male a simple shopping list that I can go buy (in store or online) that I can start practicising with?

and if theres already a tried and true article on here, please send me the link.  I'm so excited to start on my make up journey, but i only have a few hours each week to be femme so I want to make the most of the time I have....

Please help me navigate the beauty aisle(s) ...

Hi Samantha.

Instead of getting started with a full set of tools, I would suggest you to get started with a wrench, pliers, one hammer and one screwdriver. 🙂

Starting off from a clean face, you can use any facial or body non-oily cream or lotion. (Just so your skin is not dry or flaky). First thing after that will be the foundation/base. A cream based foundation would be best, and just try to find one that matches your skin tone. In doubt,  better one that is slightly darker than lighter.

The rest, stick to the basics. Eyeliner pencil (Don't go for the cheapest on this one, it will not stick to your skin and the tip will break frequently on those). Also get some rimmel/mascara for your eyelashes. (Make sure you don't get any "extender wear" or waterproof items, will be harder to remove in a hurry.

A small set of earth tone eye shadows (two or three matching colors will be in the set) and then one or two lipsticks. And one blusher.

That should be enough for you to practice. Once you get somehow better at it, you can start adding other things like concealers/corrector/setting powder, etc. And then different shades of eye shadows.

Good luck!

hi Samantha. I agree with gaby, she is a guru on these matters! she has helped me a lot! best advice, start basic and work up. I try to concentrate on one area at a time to try to perfect it. if you are new, expect a ton of mistakes along the way, dont get disillusioned however, its all experience.

LOL, going to need to practice suppressing the “Tim Allen Grunt Reflex” (to tool jokes) if I’m ever to pass....🤣🤣

I'm starting too, and this is what is working for me so far. I picked one part of the face (say, eyes, or even more specific, eye shadow). Search YouTube for a beginner video on that and find one that you like. They will mention a few products, so you can get something similar (doesn't have to be whatever brand they are recommending). But at least this way you know exactly what to get and how to use it.

This is the eye makeup tutorial I found that I liked.

I don't remember all the products, but I just got an eyeshadow color pallet that had three shades that would work, and I got Elf eyelid primer for a buck or two. A decent priced mascara (Maybeline I believe). I think a lot of stuff will work. Stay away from dollar store makeup though, as it can have chemicals or is close to expiration (not worth it).

Walmart is pretty cheap (I go as male--no one seems to give me a second look as I'm wandering around the aisles trying to figure things out lol). Amazon has plenty of stuff of course. Wish.com is cheap although for makeup I'm wary of the regulations on toxic stuff.

After you've got that part of the body down, move on to something else. For me I wanted to see how to make myself look less fat lol, so I looked up some video tutorials on that. They mentioned some tricks with bronzer, so there you go--next trip to the store for the one or two products that I would use.

Much less overwhelming this way, in my experience. 🙂
