I know the best way to look better is diet and exercise. However, while waiting for that sometimes slow process to bear results, I would still like to look slimmer when I dress up even before the results of diet and exercise are in. Is there such a thing as a firm control foundation garment that is also comfortable to wear for much of a day? Comfort and firm do not often go together.
First of all, remember that foundation garments can only do so much. You will have to be the judge of that.
There are longline foundation garments and corsets. If done right, corsets can be comfortable over longer timelines.
And I think there is some trial and error involved as to what suits, and what size. I've one of those "wear your own bra" bodysuits that I find comfortable, while helping to make a better shape and allowing some freedom to experiment with solutions for boobs.
But, as Harriette says, I think it will only do so much.
@maureen76 I always wear a steel boned waist trainer/corset when I go out. Comfortable is not a word I would use. When I'm up and about I would say they're largely unnoticeable, however when sitting for long periods they can often dig and rub and pinch.
If you're going to try it I'd suggest getting a mesh one, and a medium quality one. I'd also advise getting a corset liner, which helps minimize the above annoyances.
Good luck! 🙂
I agree Melodee. I have a boned waist trainer that is fine when standing, but digs and irritates my skin when sitting. I'm going to start looking for a mesh or microfiber trainer. Do you use one?
For hourglass shaping of the torso, you could try an item called the “waist Hero” , it is made by Honeylove it has boning and some adjustability kind of like a modern corset but a bit more flexible and easy to stealth under clothing , it is underbust too so you can wear your favorite bra with it.
I have a latex-based waist cincher, the label on it says 'Esbelt' and it's a Medium size (I'm more or less 6'0" and 180lbs). It's both more effective and more comfortable than the elastic & steel-boned ones I've had before, it never really digs in but it does still like to make little rolls in my sides which are noticeable when sat down.
I know I'm fortunate still to have some traditional girdles - and long-line bras. With their various shaping panels and strong elastic net they do a very good shaping job. Girls/women sometimes admitted that their girdles were uncomfortable but they still wore them all day every day and, when questioned, would say they "got used to them" or that they "wouldn't be doing their job if they were too comfortable". I can agree with those sentiments.
I remember reading a long time ago (on a now-disappeared web site) about a young woman, sitting in the back of a car, commenting that she was wearing a "not good for sitting" girdle. My own collection covers a range of firmness and types: some would be no problem for any activity and any length of time. Others less so - but still acceptable because of their effectiveness.
