I don't bother with makeup (I can get by with a close shave and some moisturiser).  I would like to start using lipstick - but I need to be able to remove it before my SO comes home.

What is a good lipstick brand to use that is easy to remove ?  What would be the best way to remove it ?

@ajthairms Heck I'm no expert Alicen but I've always found lipstick comes off easily with a standard makeup remover. You've got to be a bit careful with mascara, but the one thing I have a problem with is getting all the last vestiges of nail polish off xx.

@kapt thanks Rikki, I've been looking but don't quite understand all the options. I'd really like some that are pre-coloured and come already sticky, if you know what I mean xx.

@chrisfp99 Birdcage in brighton sell nails for larger hands in all sorts of colours. I've also found a glue remover in the beauty store but I've not tried it yet.

@chrisfp99 I ise OPI nail color and always put a OPI clear base coat first. The base coat dries really fast, less than a minute. It makes it so much easier to get nail polish off.

@nickicd Thank You, Nicki.

Pastels, for me, usually come off relatively clean. It's removing those reds, and darker shades where a detective like Columbo or Monk could easily pinpoint.

With Love,

Thea

Alicen, I've just remembered, many years ago I'd been playing around with some makeup (presumably my wife's, as I haven't had anything of my own for eons) and I must have failed to get all the mascara off. My wife made some comment about it, possibly without putting two and two together, and I mumbled something and went up to the bathroom. Nothing further was ever said but it's the only time I came close to being rumbled 😂 xx.

@ajthairms Alicen,

I use Revlon super lustrous brand; comes right off with a wipe or napkin.

Just keep in mind it comes of Real Easily, as in anything that touches your lips; fingers, sleeves, dinner napkins, forks, spoons, someone else's lips, and so forth,

Inexpensive and lots of great colors!

@altrealtraveller - that may do, although I think something that doesn't come off so easily may be better for me.

@ajthairms l use micellar water to remove make-up and it works quite well. I wear nail polish all the time however when you use base coat before the nail polish,  removing the polish with acetone is quick and easy

@ajthairms Some lipstick marketed as long-lasting, but most doesn't last.  I recommend you buy some delicious organic red strawberries and eat a few of those at the last minute.  They make your lips red.

Maybe keep some in the freezer so you never run out.

@ajthairms I use micellar water face wipes. It can take 2 or 3 to get lipstick off.

If you have to be careful over dressing, wear a very neutral lipstick and watch you cup if you make a drink.

I use mostly Maybelline lipstick or Alcone lip gloss.

@ajthairms A few weeks back I did a cross country run on a Saturday morning. Wiped my face apart halfway round on my wrist band, realised I still had a trace of lipstick on from the previous night!

@ajthairms hi Alice’s, thanks for the post. I found the best thing for removing make up is Vaseline Intensive care moisturizing lotion. It removes all make up easily including the semi permanent lipsticks. The best part is that it is away cheaper than any make up remover on the shelves. Just spread it on like you’re going to moisturizer your face and then wipe it off with a Kleenex. Easy peasy. If you ever do use the 24 hour lipsticks it might take 2 or 3 applications but it does work. Good luck girl.

Trish ❤️

@ajthairms I like Maybelline 24 hour lipstick. They even have pen style now which is creamy and so easy to use and carry. As for removal, any will come off with a cotton ball and baby oil and it moisturized too. In fact I use that for all my makeup removal. It's convenient, inexpensive and effective.

My routine when I want to remove my makeup is to wash my face with CeraVe foaming facial cleanser and facial sponge. After that I make sure I moisturize.

First important pointer, don't wear a dark colour, and get a lipstick that moisturizes your lips.  To remove it, as Jessica says, CeraVe foaming facial cleanser followed by a moisturizer.

Don’t use the liquid long lasting lipstick, it’s very hard to get off. A good stick type lipstick is much easier to get off. I use the moistened makeup wipes and they work really well. I don’t use any waterproof makeup at all, too much work to get it off. I can easily remove all my makeup with the wipes in just a couple minutes.

My favorite lipstick is L'Oreal. It is so creamy and just feels nice on my lips. I find the brighter the red, the harder it is to remove. While I love bold reds like Revolon's "Cherries in the Snow" I only wear it when removing quickly will not not be an issue. I have need had a big problem with masscara, but some eyeliner can be the devil to remove, even with makeup remover.

@jjandme Same here, I have several L'Oreal nude shades now.  I find just facewash on a washcloth gets them all off.  Or eating dinner, or wiping your mouth on the back of your hand, it doesn't seem to be difficult that's for sure!  The good thing about nude is that if it does leave any residual stain, at least your lips are a believable colour 🙂

I use a Revlon red tube lipstick during the week if I'm just staying local. It comes off pretty easy with a good wipe but if you want to be sure just use a Neutrogena makeup wipe. When I'm with the girls or I'm very dressed up, I use Maybelline   16 hr. that you apply with an applicator. That is much harder to get off.

I use Maybelline. The one I've been using lately is nude lust which is a neutral color. As to taking lipstick off I just use a napkin, tissue or piece of toilet paper to wipe it off. It's a little easier if moistened. I love wearing lipstick in the morning when having my coffee and seeing the lipstick stain on my coffee mug, just have to remember to wipe it off when I'm done. Lipstick is the one thing that I think can be worn and removed without any difficulty compared to other make up.

XOXO

Costco makeup remover wipes are the BOMB. (If they have Costco in England…?)

But I also love when I don’t get every bit off and I see the red lipstick marks on my insulated drink cup….if I’m in a group of friends I have to comment: “Well, my wife was borrowing my to-go cup again, there’s her flipping lipstick marks!”

Hee-hee!👩‍🦳

I use Maybelline Vinyl liquid lipstick as it doesn't easily come off on cups/glasses and the like. To get the stuff off when you want to, just use a makeup remover or just give it a bit of  scrub with a cloth. Amazon sell makeup remover cloths and they work wonderfully, in fact since getting my cloths, I haven't actually used any specific make-up remover at all.

I use two types of lipstick in reds & pinks depending on my mood & whim.  Expensive ones from Clinique (peppermint pop) if i want to leave a nice lip print on my wine glass, and much less spendy ones from Rimmel, (16hr kiss proof) which is like a stain with a seperate gloss.  It really lasts!

As Chrissie has stated in the first response, i have had no problem removing any lipstick i have used with either the cheapest Equate makeup remover from Walmart to the expensive Neutrogena wipes.  Both work the same for me.

Hi Alicen

For my two cents worth I have only ever used normal stick lipsticks. Mainly Revlon or Maybelline brands. Nothing long lasting or lip gloss. Given that I have never ever had any issue with my lipstick leaving a trace no matter the colour so I think if you stick with traditional stick lipsticks you will be fine. Don't be afraid to try some brown's or other colours that the traditional red or pink particularly when you are dressed in something casual. Then use Neutrogena makeup wipes or Micellar water on some makeup removal pads. The other thing you could try that I think makes a huge difference and will leave no trace is false eyelashes. They are fiddly to put on but more than worth the effort.

Best of luck with it Alicen.

Hugs Olivia

@oliviac Olivia, I'm really keen to try false lashes but there are a lot of options and I'm a bit confused xx.

@chrisfp99 Chrissie you are right there. There are so many to choose from. I started with ones that say they are Natural. These aren't too huge and drag queen like. I then found for when I want to look a bit more formal like to dress to go to a restaurant as opposed to just going to the shops I choose the ones that are a bit longer. I have used the Glam brand and their "Length" lashes suit my more formal look really well. It was a bit of trial and error and I suspect you will have to buy a few sets till you find which ones you suit you best.

Next is how they are attached. There are self adhesive lashes that have like double sided tape already on the lashes so you just peel them out of the box then put them on and they will stick to your eyelids. The downer with these is in my experience they only stick well once so you only get one use maybe two. The other type are lashes that come with glue. I'd recommend when starting out you get these. You put on the glue then stick them on. With these you get more uses and they are most forgiving as if they aren't on right you can pull them off add some more glue and go again. The final type are magnetic lashes where you paint like a fluid on the top of your eyelid that has magnetic particles in it. You wait a minute or two for it to dry and the magnetic material on the lashes sticks to the dried fluid on your lashes. These are the most expensive though some of the girls here swear by them.

They are fiddly to put on and especially at first you can take five minutes of mucking around to get one lash on. That said they are worth all the effort as when I do my makeup they are the one item that makes the biggest difference to how feminine I look. So much so I am never Olivia without them.

I hope that helps Chrissie.

Hugs

Olivia

@oliviac Hey Olivia, what a super response from you honey. Thank you. I'll take some time to digest all this. I agree, I'm not looking for the drag queen look, just an elegant and slightly sexy feminine presentation xx.

@chrisfp99 Chrissy, I too struggled for years trying get my lashes on nicely. I tried putting the lash glue on the lash, then putting the glue on my lids and over time got them on well enough to go out wearing them. Even then, I had trouble with the glue not keeping them in place. Then I heard about these magnetic lashes, after buying some hoping that they would be the answer. These lashes had an upper and lower lash strip that attached to each other magnetically. I found them to be even more difficult than the ones I had been gluing on. That is until one my girlfriends told me to cut the bottom strip in half, lay the top strip on my own lashes after on application of mascara, and then attach to bottom halves with the inside half going on first. I am happy to say that was the answer! I was able to do my lashes in a reasonable amount of time, they stayed in place very well, and best of all, they looked fabulous.

Easiest and cheapest I've found is Baby Oil and a cotton ball.

That will remove any makeup and lipstick you have. It even removes the Lip Stains that are common now. Mascara, eye liner, brow pencil, foundation and lipstick all disappear easily and it moisturizes as well.

I used to talk about how great those organic strawberries taste!  "Oh, yeah, now that I notice it, your lips are red..."
