If you have to wear a girdle, do you prefer a Long leg, high waist, panty girdle or an open bottom girdle with 4 or 6 garters? I tend to prefer the LLHWPG for the extra figure control I get.
The only downside to a panty girdle is that it might be a little harder to attach your stockings
but Maureen, an open bottom allows for so much more freedom of movement---hugs Allie
well Allie, That may be true, but I really like the additional support a girl gets from a long leg high waist panty girdle ----Hugs Maureen
Maureen, I wish we could compromise and that there were girdles available that were half panty and half open bottom---wouldn't that be something?---Hugs Allie
Hi just checking on something here out of curiosity---
I'm a bit confused why all the posts here appear to be from Maureen when they clearly aren't but I have to dive in here and say I just love an OBG. One of the first items I bought when I was younger and the love of them has never left me. Not sure what the former is really. Maureen, please suggest a Google search expression.
Hugs, Chrissie xx.
Everything I wear, in or out of the house, is 'very' short, so any long leg shapewear is out for me. I am a huge fan of open bottom girdles with a few conditions. They must have 6 metal garter clips, and I prefer extra firm like the Rago 1357. However, that is not available in plain white, so I have several Rago 1359 and 1361 styles which are categorized as 'firm' control. I dyed these girdles every color I could imagine. There are other vintage extra firm brands but those are hard to find. I actually wear an open bottom girdle every night as a fundamental part of both loungewear and 'sleepwear'.
I do own a Rago 9357 open bottom body briefer, and as much as I like the look and feel wearing it, it tends to ride up due to my 5'11" body. I also have a 9051 Rago body briefer, but it tends to have the same problem, pulling my boobs downward and eventually irritating my shoulders. Both are good for short term wear, but overnight is just too long.
I finally settled on a Rago 2202 longline bra, Rago 6101 high waist firm control panties and the open bottom girdle. Everything fits perfectly and is super comfortable all night long, although bathroom visits are a bit tedious LOL.
I have a dozen or so Maidenform 1456 body shapers, in colors both purchased and dyed, to smooth everything out under clothing. These fit my longer body just fine and the body briefer is very good for concealing a corset as well.
I have one OBG with 6 suspenders. It looks and feels great. Otherwise if I wear stockings I wear a suspender belt

Anna
I just wish people would talk in English instead of all these acronyms. I feel like in Washington DC.

I always wear shapewear when dressing. Have several types of girdles from OBG, to panty girdles as well as high leg cut girdles. Usually, my hosiery dictates what kind of girdle I wear. OBG six garter girdle with thigh highs, other girdles with pantyhose. I enjoy them all and rarely dress without one or the other. I am also getting more into corsets and bustiers. I love all the options for my foundation wear.
Hi Maureen,
I’m a fan of an OBG with nylon stockings or sometimes I’ll wear a corselette. Mine have 4 garters.

I have several types of open girdle and some panty girdles and corselettes too. My suspender belts are deep, traditional ones with only a small elastic section at the sides and these grip the waist very firmly and never move.
Just as women used to do, I choose the foundation garment based on what outer garments will be worn. With short skirts/dresses it has to be a panty girdle over tights - and I can understand why women adopted tights to avoid the nuisance of suspenders and stocking tops showing. Unlike some contributors here, I find it easier to get the necessary control and shaping from good quality, firm open girdles, those with a high waist giving by far the best waist shaping especially when combined with a good, long-line bra. But make no mistake, this results in continuous tightness all the way from shoulder straps via bra, girdle, suspenders and stockings, to the toes and the whole ensemble feels solid and inescapable - yet giving no clue to their presence when worn under a suitable dress.
It always fascinated me as a young man that girls I knew looked so free and easy in their skirts and dresses and yet many of them were firmly held by lots of elastic, hooks, eyes, zips and straps underneath - something immediately obvious when you held a girl's waist.
I agree that panties were always worn under tights (though some women regarded them as unnecessary) but always over open girdles and suspender belts for the obvious reason that they could be quickly and easily lowered when using the toilet. Indeed, toilet use in an open girdle and stockings is quicker and easier than for a male wearing trousers and underpants! It's different with tights and panty girdles where, usually, knickers, tights and panty girdle need to be pulled down and then carefully manoeuvred back into place afterwards. A high-waist panty girdle is very difficult to pull down, especially if it's fitted at the waist with a zip. I know there are panty girdles with a "split crotch" (though I understand that isn't always easy to deal with) and if there are tights and/or panties underneath, the crotch opening is useless anyway.
Given all the above, is it any wonder that women soon gave up all kinds of girdle even if they had need of one - and we see many women today with "loose" figures?
