Well Friday I had my makeup session at Luminous downtown Minneapolis at 1 pm.  To say that I was nervous being out like that during the day, in the heart of the city fully dressed up..woudl be an understatement.

I was fun to start the day primping and selecting outfit options to wear from lingerie, pencil skirt and blouse, wig and heels. I put full makeup on me so she could see what and how I apply my makeup and critique it. To which she said I did a very good job.  She fully cleaned off my face and we started from scratch. She explained each step, process and what she was using and had me do the other side after I watched her to the left side.  She complemented me on how I hold my makeup brushes and how I applied my makeup.  I even opted for the glue on eyelashes.  Those were hard to do and I surrendered to have her do that.

Overall I picked up a lot of information and processes and makeup to use, as well as what I needed to get. It cost $195 for 90 minute session. Betsy (owner) is queer and very open and accepting of all types. She did not charge me for the eyelashes and gave me some darker lip gloss too.

For our MN ladies, I HIGHLY recommend seeing Betsey at Luminous, well worth the experience. I told her she needs to come on this board as a great resource person.

@leah63

A make up lesson seems like a wonderful idea; it sounds like you can learn a huge amount in a relatively short time, bypassing months of trial and error 🙂

Tracey Galligan at Femme Side in Leicester (the closest dressing service to me) doesn't currently have anything like this in her list of options, but I wonder if it's something she'd consider?

There's no harm in asking! 🙂

@ellyd22 Oh that would be such a good idea, if Tracey had the time to offer it.  I learned a few bits and pieces during my makeover, but how she actually goes about things like the amazing eyeshadow I still have no idea.  Let alone how to achieve whole different looks rather than a standard face with the odd add-on e.g. for going out.

Maybe we should team up and ask her at some point 🙂

@ellyd22 We'll both be seeing her again in the next couple of months.  We could try the drip-feed individual approach first if you like, to reinforce the message when the team opportunity arises?

Sounds like a plan.

Or I might just come straight out and ask when I see her in four weeks' time 🙂

@ellyd22 That's what I meant 🙂  And I'll do the same when I see her for August LFF.

And then we can do it AGAIN if one or more of us were to meet up with her in , ooh ... I don't know ... late September?

@ellyd22 Sounds like a plan, doesn't it 🙂  Oh and we should be sure to follow up on it a week or so later, too.

Yes ... if we were to meet her again a week or so later (hypothetically) then we could do that.

@leah63 Sounds like you had a great time and learned a lot.  My first makeover changed my life for the better.  Having someone help with the right shade of foundation and makeup products that suit you saves a ton of trial and error time and wasted expense.  The best part is seeing how much younger and feminine makeup can make you look.

I should do a lesson. I only apply very light make up on my own. If I want real make up I go to Sephora and just have it aplied properly. The nice thing is having different styles of make up applied in eays I could never do myself.

Leah -

Sounds like a wonderful experience and to get a lesson on top of it. When I first did make up my wife bought me what I needed and put it on me the first time. The second time she showed me on one side and had me do the other and then touched up what I did. I don't use make up very often so need more practice but it doesn't look too bad. At least i don't think I look like a clown. I have false lashes but haven't gotten to put them on yet as I need to pick up some glue remover.

XOXO
Suzanne
