I gave up trying to find an old post about doing my wife's nails, but I just couldn't find it. Hats off to the member who gave me this idea.
Lately, I bought a few new Christmas nail polish colours for me - namely a very deep green and a robust red - but I also bought a nice pink, to do my wife's nails. The problem has been trying to convince her into let me do it. Every time that I tried earlier, she always refused.
I figured that after supper tonight that it would be a good time, before she got occupied with doing her thing. Lucky me, she agreed!
I first checked her fingers and nails. Yup, there were still ten of them. I shaped a couple of the nails a bit more nicely and made sure that they were in reasonable shape. I laid down a new base coat and let it dry. Then I applied the first colour coat. It was a Sally Hansen 1-step gel, in a very noticeable pink. The problem was that it was a gel that I had never used before and it was a thin layer. It didn't cover well. Uh, oh!
I ended up having to lay down three layers to fill in the colour, but it finally started to look half decent. I made sure that the front edges were covered, too. When it was time, I then put on a thick clear coat and let her rest. She had moved her hands a few times throughout and there were a few smudges that needed covering over, but they didn't look too bad.
There were a couple of nail polish videos that were posted here, recently. One of them showed using a small, stiff make-up brush soaked in nail polish remover to clean up the messes around the fingertips. One of my tasks, today, was to find such a brush. A dollar store didn't have one not in a kit, so I went across the street to a specialty nail place. It took a while but someone finally found what was needed. It was barely stiff enough, but it did the job, for $8. Stiffer would have been better, but I had some metal nail tools to scrape off the excess, too.
So, in the end, I got to spend a little quality time with my wife doing something nice for her, for a change. She always cuts my hair, so maybe she will let me even the score a bit more in the future.
This was my first time being able to convince my wife to letting me do this, so the results weren't professional, but they aren't all that bad, either. Patience and attention to detail paid off.
Harriette -
What a lovely way to spend time with your wife and such a nice thing to do for her.
XOXO

I cut a "deal" with my wife. She let me go crazy buying pedicure supplies and polish (I have over 100 polishes now! Almost all boutique brands...) and we will both do our toes (or each others!) at home instead of the salon.
She still gets her hands professionally done because of the gel and fake nail but she's also started to leave them natural and take the polishes I've picked out.
It's a fun, relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
