So today I decided that I needed new panties. I did not get anything special. But shopping for them made me nervous. All went well. I didn't notice any weird looks.

@britney8305 I’m like you Britney, while I’ve shopped for panties only in Drab, I was nervous that someone would give me a look.  I’ve always thought that this time of year was a perfect cover since some non CDs actually do buy for their wives/ SOs, or do they?

@jennconn Yes Jennifer I as thinking the same thing about this time of year. It made it easier that I was looking for replacement more basic "everyday" type panties as well. My old ones were just too small and well.... Old. Plus I was going to make an order on Torrid and I noticed that the panties I was picking out were not that sexy but basic. The order was getting out of control price wise. Even though like everything on that site is on sale. So I just went to Walmart and picked some up.

@jennconn if I was in line at the lingerie store with my wife, you wouldn’t know that I was underdressed, but I am ,  and  I always am holding an armful of my wife’s new lingerie, sometimes there are 2 different sizes of panties…lol. And I order for both of us online, she enjoys it when I pick out sexy panties and nighties for her. It is pretty rare not to see another guy in the lingerie store, and I often wonder if we are  both shopping for ourselves too😂

@britney8305 Congrats buying panties! It takes a lot of courage to do that. There's no longer anything strange about a guy buying panties so no second looks from most peolee and cashiers I've run into.

@lea-jhene I've found the same thing.   I've shopped at Victorias Secret, Walmart, Target and even a military post exchange.  I've never even gotten a second glance.   That said, I still get nervous.   It's kind of part of the fun.

Congrats!

@britney8305 l found when l go shopping for new panties other people are too involved with their own issues (what they have on their mind) they they neither care nor have the time to be concerned with what others do. Also the person at the checkout has no interest  in what you or anyone else purchases as they are there only to earn a living

@britney8305  Good for you for overcoming your nerves and successfully shopping for panties. I've panty-shopped in person a few times (in drab) because I get nervous. So I mostly buy online. But I have shopped at Target couple of times, and I was terrified that someone who knows me would see me. And standing in line at the checkout with panties in my hands was the WORST! I seemed like it took an hour (It was probably 5 minutes), and I was sure everyone was staring at me.

I’ve shopped at VS twice. I steeled myself before my first visit because I knew I would be approached by the dreaded sales associate. But I decided it would be good for me to be honest. I went in with as much confidence as I could muster, and when the SA asked if I needed help, I repeated my rehearsed lines, “Yes I do, thank you. I’m looking for thongs and G-strings, very plain, and dark colors…A-A-A-And I’m shopping for myself.” She didn’t bat an eyelash. She helped me out, suggested things, “This is cute, but it’s got these little gold things, so it probably more blingy than you want. Maybe I’ll buy it for myself.” Once I go past the greeting, it was fun, and I felt surprisingly comfortable, even when shopping next to other women. But again, standing in line was awful. There was a woman with her young daughter right behind me and I wanted to run and hide! I was sure she was going to say, “Mommy, why is that man buying panties?” But it went fine, and I walked out into the mall with my fancy VS bag, telling the world where I had been, which felt really awkward.

i think it really helped my confidence that I was honest about my intentions when I spoke with the sales associate.

@britney8305 I’ve only bought online here in the US, but last summer in London I thought of Ellie's infectious confidence and walked into the VS on Bond street. Once inside, I wanted to pinch myself because it felt so normal and how could that be? Once I started breathing again, I browsed and admired for at least 10 minutes, then bought several pair from the only cashier (who happened to be male) and walked out with my VS bag. Everybody treated me like it was perfectly normal for me to be there. I don’t know if that was because it was London or VS or maybe just the 21st century, but it felt surreal and good.

Shopping is fun, don't you think? One of my best experiences was shopping for panties and a young woman complimented me for buying for my wife. For some strange reason, and she seemed friendly, I told her that I was shopping for me; that I was a crossdresser. She got excited, "I've always wanted to meet a CD." We then went for coffee and a friendship ensued. The point of my comment? Shopping can have benefits more than the product purchased. Go for it - without concerns!

@carlalayne I had a similar experience while shopping once. I had a skirt picked out and the sales associate came up and asked if I need any help I replied “yes I need a top to go with this skirt.” She directed me over to the tops and asked” who are we shopping for ?” And I shocked myself by saying I was shopping for myself. She turned and smiled , gave me a hug and thanked me for being so honest with her. We then became friends and talked all the time about outfits and such.

Yes to me it’s a thrill shopping for underwear, even in male mode, I don’t seem to have any inhibitions about buying them, suppose over the years and the way things are nowadays nobody bats an eye lid

Self checkout makes things less "weird" but there is something very positive to me about having someone see your order and then looking at you. You can see them size you up some times as I pay. Oh well. YES they are for ME.

Hi Brittney,

congrats on your shopping trip. Next time you visit Torrid check out the clearance.  You’ll find some great deals.  Make a purchase and take the survey on your phone.  You’ll get a code that will give another discount on your next purchase.

I don't usually worry about buying women's clothes since who knows who you are buying them for.  However, a while back I was in Target looking at panties when a friend of my daughters saw me and got a horrified look on her face.  She rushed away and when I see her at birthday parties or other get together's for the grandkids she avoids me like I have a contagion.  Far as I know she hasn't said anything to my daughter though but I've been buying my panties online ever since.

I love panty (and other ladies section) shopping in person. One trick that helped me be less nervous early on was to keep an online shopping cart or wish list full on my phone to show a store associate if they ever approached me.

So instead of not knowing what to say, I could simply say "yeah, I do need help! Can you help me find something like this?" And show them the shopping cart or list on my phone. They all assume you are buying as a gift for someone else.

@nalasirder I either look at my phone, or pretend I talking to someone, when shopping for makeup or clothes, love your ideal to have a list or photo.

I buy almost everything online. I can browse and I shop at Amazon, eBay and Poshmark. I have bought some things in person, too. Namely panties, leggings, pretty socks, even a bra or two. The last time I bought panties, in person, was at of all places a farm type store (most of them carry clothes) and when I got to the checkout the lady checking me out said that she thought it was great I was doing that for my wife. I just smiled and agreed.

Britney -

Thank you for sharing your experience in shopping for panties.

I was nervous as well when I first went shopping for panties and bras. Two things helped me get over my nervousness - 1- my wife was recovering form surgery once and needed new panties so I went to the store and bought them for her with no problems, 2- when shopping for panties, or other clothes for that matter, for myself I just peruse the racks until I find what i want and the right size. As far as I know I've never gotten any looks or comments about what I was doing. In the last month I've purchased panties, cami's and pantyhose without any issues. As had been said most people are too wrapped up in their own lives to pay attention and that SA's only want to sell what they have.

Hope you have more opportunity to get out and do more shopping soon.

XOXO
Suzanne

First time I bought panties I was nervous as hell, hands shaking rushed through the auto checkout at a supermarket. Second time I went to a better shop still nervous as hell but I just put them on the counter like it was the most natural thing in the world. I think the assistant was more nervous than me in the end. Yet to buy a dress for myself.

I remember those days. Surreptitiously moving through the lingerie racks, glancing here and there at the panties to find something I'd like. Then looking around like a shoplifter to see if I'm being watched before reaching out to find my size and feel the material. Then OMG I have to carry them around while I look for a second style! Now I need a matching bra. There it is! Quick do they have my size? YES!

Now, how do I carry all these through the store and what about the checkout?

I'm so glad those days are over. Almost having a heart attack just to buy undies. Now the wife and I roam the racks. She's an aisle over holding up lavender panties almost yelling "Do you like these, they have pink also!". Worst of all I don't even care and tell her "Yes, they're cute, do they have a pale blue?".
