I'm working on a couple of ideas for a photoshoot at the moment. I've got a couple of outfits in mind in my wardrobe and I'm working on the idea of a very goth look, very different from my normal bright swing dresses.
I'm a bit stuck on a couple of things and looking for a bit of advice, please.
Firstly hair - stick with my normal dark red, go really copper-haired or black haired?
Secondly - complexion. Having the red-haired gene and Irish ancestry I am naturally pale-skinned anyway and my usual foundation is ivory. What shade does one use for the goth look. Porcelain?
Lips / nails - black or very dark red?
Hugs,
Anna xx
Hi Anna. I know a bit about photo shoots. Based on your descriptions, my opinion is go with black as much as possible to get the goth look. And that includes datk lipstick. To gain good photos in that genre, it is all about contrasts. Just my 2.5 bitocoin opinion....
Pale skin, black everywhere else is the traditional goth look AFAIK. I've toyed with a black lippy look for my clubbing outfit. Yet to try it though.
In general, black and red/purple, plus corset or bustier, perhaps a black fascinator, lace gloves, lace-up ankle boots, slightly ripped tights, red lipstick, dark eyes, black and red hair, big earrings. Attitude!
Hi Anna.
Just my humble opinion........
For the classic goth look it has to be black and white only. Black clothing and accessories; Pale skin (yes, porcelain, I would say); Black make up; Black nails.
If you decide to go with red or copper hair, then I'd still go for predominantly black clothing but something that has a similar red or copper trim / embroidery or a bustier / corset. You could introduce your chosen colour into your lipstick and nails etc.
I'd be tempted to go with your normal hair colour and work around that.
The above is only my opinion, but hope it gives you something to consider.
I went to a couple of goth weekends in Whitby with my ex-girlfriend. She wore purple hair with purple make up / lipstick / nails and black clothing with purple trim. She got a lot of compliments. I didn't get any btw.
Have fun, whichever colour you choose!
