Well, ladies, I never thought I'd have the nerve, but I did it. Got my ears pierced! I went to a piercing and tattoo parlor and no one batted an eye.
Erica, I am happy for you. You realize that you must wear studs all the time to keep holes open.
I opted for clip ons. I did work in all male environment so couldn't wear pierced. Clip ons are hard to find!
Lady Veronica
Good for you. I've had mine pierced for many, many years. I wear earrings on occasion when in drab mode and like you said no one really cares.
That's great that you could do that Erica! I'm not in a position where I can, would love to though. Lady Veronica, have you tried the clip on conversion kits? I've seen them at Walmart and at craft stores but haven't tried them yet myself. I have tried a method of making hoop earrings with the hammer style lever work though; just cut off about half of the pin that is meant to go through the ear. It clamps and holds fairly securely and if you can find ones with the little plastic tubes on the pins you can leave those on for a more comfortable fit.
I've worn clip ons for years. It is easy to convert the types of pierced earrings with hooks. Look at any beading web site and you should be able to find clip on components. They come in a variety of colors and are not expensive. All you need to convert earrings is a pair of pliers. I've also made many of my own from findings on those sites. Some of the sites of galleries of designs, tell you exactly what you need, and offer directions. Just substitute the clip on components for the hooks.
Now I'll have to reconvert my clip ons once the piercings heal well enough!
earrings on men are fairly commonplace , what's the big deal.
Bravo, Erica! Even if it isn't uncommon, it's still a bold move for most of us. My birthday is coming up in a few weeks and I am seriously considering getting mine pierced as well. I would have done it years ago. I had girlfriends and colleagues say that I should have, but I would never have heard the end of it from my Army Reservist father. He passed away some time ago, so no more excuses. So thank you very much, Erica, your example has pushed me that much closer to having mine done as well.
Hi Erica, I first got my left ear pierced in the early 1970's, I worked in a machine shop and took a lot of teasing. Thru time I now have 9 earrings in my left ear and just last year I finally got my right ear pierced, 3 times. I always wear hoops of different sizes, when I dress I put shoulder dusters in my lowest holes. I love the feeling and the noise they make.
What’s with our fiction stories commonly having a setting of getting the haircut-styled when the topic of ear piercing comes up or the worse one, like it’s really a surprise, “…then I heard a pop!…and an ear was pierced”. I’ve called over ten salon places and they all refer me to the mall kiosks. Are mall kiosks the only place? It’s not free. It’s $65. It’s fun to do for a few days, so I’m not gonna keep them for the long term. I just like the experience. They also won’t reuse posts. If they were really a clean environment, they should not have a problem with that! But then again, that would be free now wouldn’t it?
