Pumps

For me, it's just a matter of sizing. I've been lucky enough to find pumps that fit properly and don't slip when I walk. I do have some slingback pumps that have the look of pumps but provide some adjustability through the back strap. There also so cute and sexy!

I have found my pumps started slipping after breaking in and then only when wearing hose.
I don't know how to fix that, am curious. Perhaps I need to go down a size which would give me a much wider selection. Thanks for posting, I will be curious to your responses.

I have the same issue. My left foot is half a size smaller than my right so I either have one shoe that is too tight or one that slips off.  I've tried the heel pads without much success and I've resigned myself to wearing shoes with straps. I am very interested though in hearing what others have done to resolve the slipping issue.  Thanks for posting this question.

Going to a real shoe store can help because you can try on the shoes there and ask for help, when necessary.

Shoes with straps over your arches, such as Mary-Janes, will certainly help, and I have also seen accessory straps that can be used with other shoes. I have no idea how well they work, but I did see a woman using them a few days ago. I presume that was some sort of an endorsement of them.

For me, hose makes my feet slip in and out of shoes very smoothly, too smoothly. With pumps, that could be an issue. With tight shoes, hose works great. Since I don't shave my legs, I like them covered. Thick tights seem to work better with avoiding slippage. Just an idea!

Other than one pair of dress flats, all my dress shoes have straps.

A girlie patterned or colored strip of duct tape may reduce the slipping. I apply mine in back of the pumps. Half of the width stuck on the shoe, half on my hose. Colors coordinated could allow a "Mary Jane," fix.JK!

Truthfully, I have no slipping so far in my ladies size 15 black pumps and flats. I wear tights. Two newer pairs (and a bit taller) of Mary Jane style shoes don't slip, of course. All but one of my five pairs were bought from Pleaser. The red patent look Mary Janes came from an Amazon vendor and on sale! Size 15, on sale, and they fit!! Yea.

In edition to heel pads, or as an alternative, you can also add pads to the underside of the vamp. Stuffing something in the toe often doesn’t work as the foot wants to move forward in the shoe. It can create unpleasant pressure on the toes. Adding pads under the vamp works to restrict how far forward the foot can go. The padding material, fleece or foam, may need to be replaced or added to over time as it may get compressed or worn out.

Hi Darcy, I try to get my shoes on the tight side so that when they break in they will fit perfectly. Also I use pads as needed. I like to dance and walk around so I usually am very demanding of my shoe fit. I will share with you what I learned from some professional dancers. If they have a problem pair of shoes, they will sometimes take a long wide ribbon that is the same color as the shoe and wrap it several times around the heel and then the arch and around their ankle and tie it in a bow. It ends up looking like part of the shoe but really keeps everything held to their foot. I've only done this once and it worked ok but I much preferred using a pair of shoes that fit tighter. I've also seen them slip a clear rubber band over their foot and the shoe at the arch so it holds everything together but looks invisible on stage.  I hope this helps. Marg

I don’t think there is a universal solution. There is a lot of variance from human to human as well as left/right differences. In this case, the only thing to do is to throw various solutions at the problem and see what works.

Pumps can be a particular challenge, in several ways.  I have found if I get a proper fit, to include correct width & size, a good quality pump will tend to not slip off my feet.   Which begs the question, where do I shop?  Mainly two places, Goodwill and Torrid.   Amazing how area Goodwill stores will occasionally be the dumping ground for some hardly used or never used beautiful ladies pumps of good quality.  OTOH, Torrid sells quality merchandise, and when it comes to shoes, their true wide-width shoes are a blessing for girls like me.  Experienced Torrid shoppers know their shoes always run on the large side, so one has to order down a size or two and/or carefully utilize their foot measurement size chart.  As always, all merchandise is returnable.  I utilize one of the local stores for returns.

Interesting. I have never heard of a store doing that. That is very accommodating.

Not that I need to find mismatched sizes. Luckily, my feet are only 1mm different.
