I've never been one for wearing shapewear.  Some years ago my wife suggested I buy a girdle to help even our my midsection a bit. I did and found the girdle to be a near torture device.  It certainly worked it's magic but it left me feeling simply terrible.  So, I vowed to avoid such devices from them on opting to let control top pantyhose be the only shaping device I would use.  Last week I fell for a targeted add on social media for a new shapewear product promising to lift my butt, suck in my gut, and give me a beautiful silhouette without any physical discomfort.  In fact the girls wearing them said they even forgot they had them on.  I decided to throw $20 at a Shapermint high waisted shaping short to see if it was anything close to what they were claiming. My expectations were low. When it arrived I put it aside somewhat afraid to open the package.  This weekend my wife and I went shopping and she bought me a new dress for spring.  When we got home she wanted me to model it for her as she usually does when we return from our shopping trips. This time she insisted that I use my new "girtie" as she calls it.  I had almost forgotten about it but I went ahead and opened the package to try it on.

OMG -MAGIC!  It did what was promised and, while I definitely could feel it on my body, it was not uncomfortable.  My dress looked amazing and I felt a new level of euphoria.  I kept it on for over an hour waiting for the pain to kick in but it never did. My confidence when wearing the new shapewear increased tremendously and I felt like I had a new super power. My wife, impressed with my reaction, decided to order one for herself.

I'm probably late to the party but I wonder how many more of us have found a new super power in modern shapewear?

PS. This is not intended to be a commercial endorsement for the product I bought but only a reflection on my experience with it.

It may not sound like a commercial but you definitely got my attention. I have been in the same situation, as just need a little bit of shaping and some of those things just look uncomfortable, thank you

The one that I tried years ago was an old fashioned type girdle. It was hard to get on, thick material, not breathable, not very stretchy, but it definitely held everything in place. It was very uncomfortable the entire time.  Honestly I don't know how women could wear them for more than a few minutes. The new one is basically opposite in every way except that it holds you in place but without the pain of the old style girdle. I'm going to be going out this weekend and will have a better picture of how it wears for an entire day. 🤞

In my case social media marketing suggest it to me.  Funny though, I don't recall searching for shapewear on my phone, tablet, or computer.  My wife and I had discussed it in person yet they say our devices aren't listening to our conversation.  You will probably geta targeted add soon.😉

While panties may have been my gateway drug, girdles came second.  My mom had four of them.  The first two were confining but dis not hurt.  The third one was very tight but painful.  The fourth one was extremely tight.  It seemed like it was newer than the others and hadn't had time to stretch.

I got to love the compression and started wearing two, three or all four at the same time, saving the tightest one for last.  Since I only had 1 hour of girl time while my parents and brother were out of the house, they never became painful.

One of the first things I got myself was a girdle from Sears by mail order (real mail order, none of this modern online stuff).

For a while, I was a member of this Girdles and More group.  I managed to attend one of their conventions for 1 day.  All the women, and most of the men, including myself, were girdled.  At dinner, a series of amateur GG models came through the eating area, only in a bra and girdle, each modeling a different style.

Since then, I really got into girdles and bought many different styles (PG, LLPG, HWPG, LLHWPG, cincher, waist shaper, AI1, etc.  Eventually, I graduated to more modern shapers, particularly Nancy Ganz, which I believe was bought out by Maidenform. I also have a few corsets, but I've never been able to figure out how to lace them on myself, not have I found a willing partner to lace up one one me.

Wow! You certainly are quite experienced in girdles and shapewear.  Interesting point about the girdle group.  I had no idea but I'm sure there's a lot I still have to learn. I just spent time this weekend out and about with my new shapewear and I'm quite satisfied with the comfort and result.  I may make a few more purchases in the coming months to explore more options but I don't anticipate much more than that.

The "Girdles and More" forum disappeared around 2007, but I just Googled it and there is one of the same name

https://forums.delphiforums.com/GirdlesAndMore

Also, Google "Girdles and More and their are a lot more interesting sites about wearing girgles, but by men and women.

@mkat3874 I was gifted in birth without a butt so I have worn shape wear for years now. It is definitely hard to find the ones that work well. Some make me look like a full back in the NFL, some just roll everywhere they can, and others work well enough. I’d be interested in knowing the brand and style you bought.

Sadly, I require padding in the hips and butt so this company doesn’t offer such things. Oh well.

For me it helps to lift a bit in the butt to make the most of what I've got while smoothing out the tummy area.  I've never tried padding of any kind.

I am a big "girl" with a bit of a beer belly.  I always wear shape-wear while out and about.  I wear both open bust high wasted shorts and high compression wired bra cami's.  The shorts help to hold my dresstech hip pads in place as well.  The issue I always had was when I needed to use the restrooms.  It was next to impossible until I found some that had an open gusset to allow bathroom use.  I have gotten use the the mild discomfort.  The things we do to look as good as possible.

The one I bought doesn't have an open gusset.  It seems easy enough to pull up and down.  I'll be giving it the all day test this weekend.🤞 If it goes well I may see my shapewear collection continue to grow.  😉

Hi. I use Honey love Super Power shorts or brief under most dresses and skirts.  They have a large variety of quality products and they don’t roll down or up.  I find them to be comfortable.  My wife uses them too.

I always loved shapewear, especially my OBG with garters, until I began going out. Someone in our group made the comment that I needed more in the hips/butt area to balance my figure and my shapewear was doing the exact opposite. I was able to find some that had the padding I needed to solve the problem.

When I don't wear the padding I do like to wear my control top pantyhose for just a bit of shaping.

The one I bought doesn't do anything for the hips but it does lift and shape the butt which for me was a big help.  I haven't tried padding so far but I'm going to look into it.

I’ve never worn shapewear with exception of a corset because they are so sexy and I did like how it thinned my waist and mid section giving me an hour glass figure.
Recently, I felt I needed more hips. I think I’ve thinned out a little there as I’ve gotten older. I ordered a hip enhancer and when I tried it on with one of my dresses it was like OMG! Instantly my figure was transformed and the hour glass shape was evident! I love the look it’s given me. My figure is very convincing and the complements from a few that know me have been overwhelming. I’m sold!

I do love how a corset can define the waist but I've always carried a little extra in the middle making a corset less practical for me.  After reading so much from others about hip padding/enhancers I'm certainly interested in giving them a try.  Thanks for sharing.

Yes! Also late to the shapewear party and I've been crossdressing for over 50 years.

Now I wear and totally enjoy putting my shapewear over my panties and pantyhose.

Really, really adds to the joy, look and experience...

@joannat Recently I have bought cheap corsets from Shein. I had to guess at sizes.

The boning in them means they do take some getting used to and as well as shape, they do wonders for posture. I'm wearing one in the bridal photoshoot I did last year.

It does take some practice to be able to wear a corset for a whole day, I had to build up to it but the effect and feel is so much better than a clincher.

Next time I'm in Brighton, I will be going to get measured for a more expensive corset - there is a superb lingerie shop down near the sea front and they know all about Anna.

Hugs,

Anna xx

@annaredhead Thanks lovely. Will give Shein a look. I suffer occasionally from the after effects of slipping a disc a few years ago, so they might actually help!

Hi Michelle,

Shapermint does carry some nice products.  And some of the bottoms are available in a high waist model to reduce your waist along with holding in your tummy.

For is plus size girls they carry sizes to 4XL.

20years ago, I loved being "tightly corseted" with an underbust to waist model. Especially if I had one of my period gowns on my bod and same again wig on my head.

But I got old and "dont care", so these days I just let it "all hang out".

(Well not "all of it". If I did that and posted photos I'd be banned from this site...)

So far I've only spent about 1 hour wearing it.  It certainly seems more breathable than the old thick style I tried some years ago.  I'm planning to go out this weekend for a full day with it so I'll know more about long term wear then.

Update!  I spent about 14 hours wearing it on Saturday going out for the day.  After the first hour or so you do tend to forget it's there.  Readjusting after bathroom breaks reminds you of it again but all in all I didn't find the experience uncomfortable and I was quite happy with the look it provided.

@mkat3874 Hi Michelle, Did you have a problem with "roll down" where the top of the shaper rolls down and creates a thick uncomfortable band? I looked at them online and didn't see a waist band or stays to keep the top in place especially after sitting

They have a few small rigid plastic strips about 1.5 in long x 0.25 wide x 1/16 in thick oriented vertically every 8 inches or so along the top of the band that helps to prevent roll down.  I decided to give mine the all day trial at work today.  So far a little over 3 hours in and no rolling while sitting, standing, or moving, and no discomfort. I can obviously feel the snugness but I don't think I'm going to have any problems wearing it all day.

I love my body shaper erases that little bit of a mushroom that creeps up above my waist line. And the cool silky feel between me and my dress. mine goes from just above my knees up to just under my breasts.  it not only feels like Im being hugged all day long but it also helps support my back too..

Exactly! For me also it's that little bit of mushroom just above the waist line that the shapewear takes care of in a way that control top pantyhose can't. That was what drew my eye first when I put the dress on over it, the absence of the mushroom and the smooth line in its place.

I just re-ordered more of my shaping solution - stretchy enhancer shorts with foam pads.  I have separate pairs for hips and bum, which I wear together.  One advantage is, two skin-tight elastic layers over your panties give pretty good tucking support without needing a specific gaff or being too tight, although you'd still need a skirt or a long top with tights or leggings.  I also use a waist-cincher with my tighter dresses, which really helps to anchor the shorts in place.  A disadvantage is, all of this can be a bit hot in summer - but I'm in the UK, so that would normally only be a problem on a handful of days.

There are endless models of both types of shorts on Amazon. Just order a couple of sizes down from what the sizing charts suggest for your actual waist size, so that the stretch in the material has a chance to work and give you the smooth curved shape you want.

Being of a slender build I really have no hips at all, so I need quite a bit of padding on them.  I go for the hip-shorts where the pads are a sort of 'Africa' shape, but to get my preferred profile, I have to add a little extra.  The pockets in the shorts are are usually an inch or so larger all round than the shaped pads, so I keep the long edge of the pads flush with the fronts of the pockets, then in the rounded section at the back I add a pair of round pads kept over from an old pair of bum-shorts.  Then wearing bum-shorts with their padding over the top, helps to hold all of this in place.  I just make sure to check/reposition the four hip-pads when pulling everything back into place during visits to the bathroom.

I have a waist cincher I use on occasion which works well to hold things in. I also have 2 under bust body shapers with snap closed gusset (so much easier using the bathroom and tucking) my wife gave me. As mentioned by others I also have a muffin top. With some of my dresses if I don't wear them it looks like I'm preggers. The waist cincher has boning in it which can get uncomfortable after awhile but I do love the hug it gives me. They do add to my feeling of feeling feminine.

XOXO

Snap closed gusset. I'll have to look into that. Sounds like a good solution.
