I love my short denim skirts. They're casual, I can just slip them on, I don't need to fuss about them getting dirty or some delicate material getting snagged on something I didn’t notice, and they have pockets that I can put my hands in without looking like I'm wearing a housecoat. The genes from my father's side gave us kids flat butts but long, thin legs that always seem to look good, no matter how much I may weigh. Short denim skirt, slingback flats, and a simple top is my everyday wear. And being 6' tall with long legs the skirts look even shorter on me.

So, I've been wondering to myself if I'm too old to be wearing them. I'm 56, so should I dress like a 56-year-old woman is expected to? Then I saw this article. It says we're not too old to wear short shorts (along with other fun apparel), and I do have some fun shorts, but I'm going to take the article as applying to short skirts too. I'm on HRT and I'm not going to transition from a frumpily dressed man to a frumpily dressed woman. Did I miss any opportunity to be wear what I like as a woman because I'm transitioning this late in life?

And, just for fun, do any of the 13 items listed apply to you?

Age is just a number honey!  And, come on, 56 is not that high of one either!

You should wear whatever makes you happy and puts a smile on your face.  At the very worst, some self appointed fashion police might have an opinion and at the very best, you'll feel on top of the world and love life.

I'm probably not yet body appropriate for some of the items I love wearing but guess what, I'm going to keep wearing them because they make me feel good.

Go paint the town red (when restrictions allow hehe) and enjoy doing it girl.  Short denim skirt sounds very cute and I bet looks fantastic.

Love Rachel

Go for it Gabi. The best part of dressing is being able to be who you want to be. So show off those legs hun. Although, at least for myself, those legs should be in some hose. lol

My sentiments exactly. Age is  only a number. It's how you feel inside and  how you think. I'm 76 but I feel and dress as a 45 -50 years old woman.

I wear mini skirts and dresses. Maximum length of my dresses and skirts are a minimum of 4" above my knee cap. I never have and I never will dress  my age. Think young and you will always be young.

I'm only 3 years behind you. See my pics in the public photos section to get my views on this 🙂

Go for it Gabi!

I'm 63 and I wear short skirts (I've even been known to wear denim hot pants) - I've always been told I have nice legs so I'm happy to show them off and there's no reason why you shouldn't do the same.

Wellll... I AM 70, but I don’t act or look my age! I so enjoy short skirts, especially when paired with hose and heels. A big part of why I dress is to create an illusion, and part of that illusion is not only to create as passable as possible a femme presentation, but also a younger persona! I haven’t tried shorts, yet, but I do like short skirts, pencil skirts as well as skater skirts. So go for it Girl!

Hugs... Lisa

I'm 68 and I just love to wear short skirts but not to short. I also love wearing short shorts in the summer time. I say enjoy what you like to wear while you're able.

Gabi, if I dressed my age, I wouldn't be able to wear most of clothes that make me feel good. I think that I should be able to wear whatever appeals to me, as I'm dressing for me, not for them. I'm actually wearing orange short shorts and a t-shirt right now. Granted, I don't see many women in their 50's wearing shorts this short. But, when I do, I just think, there's a free-spirited, confident, young-at-heart woman. And, frankly, that is what I hope people think of me someday.

Hi

I completely agree with Rachel that age is just a number. I was five when I tried my granny’s clothes for the first time. I do not wish to look like that again. Lol. I’m 63  and wear short skirts and dresses because I feel I’m pretty in them and I have actually gotten compliments for my nice legs. So why shouldn’t I show my legs. I also have long skirts and dresses, depends on the occasion not my age. There are a lot of ciswomen that should think twice before they go out in public dressed like that.  Mostly I think that we cd/tg are very aware of what we are wearing and really want it to look good and proper. This is how we feel good and pretty.

Lots of Hugs

Hi All, I'm 63 and I love short skirts but not too short. I think I've got decent legs and a decent figure for an old gal so I'm entitled to show my assets off. Age is just a number but I don't want to dress like a teenager!

Thank you all for the words of support -- I do like wearing them and the actions involved wearing them. Like tucking the back of the skirt as I sit down, keeping my legs together when I get in a car, and many other little things. They're not miniskirts but somewhere in between a mini and a midi. But with my height I'm showing a lot of thigh, which I actually like.

I love seeing all the beutiful ladies in their public pics. I'll have to make the time to take some in full makeup, and skirts, of course.

I would have to agree with you about most of the "trends" in the article. 😱😳
