Up until a couple of weeks ago, I shaved my head (for at least 28 years) as it was easier and I had both a bald patch and a widow's peak. I was curious as to what would grow if I left it for a while. Well, as you may have guessed, I still have a bald patch, although it's no bigger, and a widow's peak, but I also have sideburns now, which is interesting.
I wear a wig when dressed and like to push my hair back behind my ears. This, however, doesn't look good, as with a shaved head, there is no hair there and gives the wig away. Since growing my hair a little, the sideburns have filled in that obvious gap. There is a 'but' and that is that my sideburns are grey, almost white -- unlike the hair on top of my head (bald patches aside) which is dark brown.
Not a problem. A little eyebrow pencil or brush on the sideburns and my wig look is complete. I can now push my wig hair behind my ears and everything looks normal. My sideburns have to grow a little more yet as they still look a little 'stubbly' but I'm pleased I've got over another hurdle in pursuit of a womanly face. Now, if I could get rid of my jowls and my turkey neck, I'd look 30 years younger, but it's going to need a little more than an eyebrow pencil to do that.
Still trying,
Becca
I keep my own hair cut short at the sides and always have done. A hint of sideburns (now virtually white) would spoil a red wig for me.
Have you tried a filter base or a contour stick to change the shape of your face?

I guess I'm constraining what I can do with my femme hairstyle but I keep my own hair down to grade ½ (1.5mm comb on the clippers) now. And because they grow back visibly white, I keep my sideburns shaved entirely, right the way up under the arms of my glasses, which are the last thing before my wig starts.
My wig is of similar colour to may hair, mix of gray and brown, and short. My SO helped choose the wig and when I mentioned that my sideburns would show, she just quickly answered “ just get rid of them” which I did. Now, I cut them to,the top of my ear where it connects to my body. Never had any cooments.
I' also got rid of my sideburns and shave to where my ears join my head. Definitely the best way IMHO.
@rebeccabaxter I actually have a grey ombre wig that looks pretty good - sort of age-appropriate, but without quite looking like an old lady 🙂
Shaving and wigs being new to me, I quickly noticed the issue with sideburns so I also shave to the top of my ears. It's still a bit of a nuisance though and I'm never happy with how the wig covers that area. That's why I'm growing my own hair out. It may be grey but, as far as I know, and my wife would soon tell me if I'm wrong, I don't have any bald patches.
Now, where has she put the curlers and setting lotion.....
At 50 I’m still blonde and full head of hair.I would never go with a gray wig but that’s just me.I don’t think I’m very passable but I go out everyday.I have a few wigs all fairly short.Used to go with a longer look and I’m loving the short bob looks anymore.
