I was curious if you ladies could share some tips on how to tell whether an outfit skirt, jeans, t-shirt blouse, etc would look good together especially when you don’t have one item or another with you... like purchasing a new top for a skirt you absolutely love, or whether a new pair of fish nets or regular hose would look better under that skirt r even those shorter than normal shorts...

Take a photo of the item you want to co-ordinate with you?

Tonya I have given this a little thought before answering with the “fashionista” approach and decided that was not what your looking for?  I have watched my daughter grow and go through stages of gaudy unmatched outfits, mixtures of formal and casual, plain indescript  and perfectly matched and coordinated outfits over the years. What I also noticed about my own dressing and attire was a growth and stages of varying styles and abilities to make things match and look good together. I also saw a growth in the maturity of my styles that went from young/tarty to more classy and mature.

So....  you will eventually develop your own “style” and learn to match the things within that style. I am not a combat boots and leather spike girl (nothing against, just not me) and you may not be a couture girl, but as with all growth their is experimentation and experience that will help you develop an ability to put together outfits you like in your style. I will suggest taking pictures of different items you have and using them to check colors against each other when shopping, ie do these shades of greens, reds  or purples work together?  I have also purchased things over the years that were super cute on the rack and looked horrible on me, and now try things on if at all possible before I purchase.

I wish you the best luck in your growth and fashion choices. Just remember that shopping is supposed to be FUN!

A lot of my choices come from watching other GG's and what they wear and seeing what they match with denim skirts or skinny jeans. I also go by my experience with what I have purchased in the past and knowing what I bought and in the end didn't wear. I do think it is a little harder right now since just about all dressing rooms are closed and you can't try any clothes on till you get home. And the internet is useful for finding out what the latest fashions are and how to match clothing together. Also where are you going to wear what you just bought. Are you going to the beach where brighter color, pastels and sun dresses are the most common. Or the mountains where outdoors style clothes reign supreme, like cut off shorts and tank tops. Around town shopping or going out to a really nice fancy restaurant. It takes time but you will find your style.

Hugs,

Sandy

I know what you mean. If I had known Stairway to Heaven was going to be one of the Greatest songs ever. I would have sold it to Zeppelin. Instead of just giving it to them!!

And to think I believed it was that other guru, Terry Pratchett (RIP), who "supplied" those ideas...

Must be something in the water.

Hi Tonya, I discovered my style via charity/ thrift stops. I definitely bought things that were not me and too small. But It was a few £ per a to rather than £10-20. Oh you probably already know this but saying it just incase. Go a size up on tops and dresses. Our wide shoulders and long bodies mean waist measurements are too short. I thought was a UK 12 for too long and wasted money.

Love Trish
