I have numerous tattoos on my arms and this very day getting some more work done. Tattoos have become mainstream even for women nowadays. I wonder what you ladies think about them. For CD'S is it a distraction in appearance? Of course I always have the option of dresses with sleeves...

@marsha68 Love them. I know they aren't to everyone's taste but a well executed tattoo is a thing of beauty. In fact my desktop background is a stunning picture of Miss Ko. A french Chinese restaurant designed by Philippe Starck. It's all over the internet if you feel the need to check it out.

@sashabennett Me too. I have a professional tattoo artist named Justin Brophy do all my tattoos. So the work is top quality.

@marsha68 While I appreciate the artwork and am a fan of Ink Master I have no interest in having any on me.

Some are very pretty and some very feminine, but I just don't want anything permanent on my body.

@cherylt Got it. Tattoos are not for everyone. Some of my friends and family have been kind to say it's not for them but they are glad I'm happy. I accept that without offense

@marsha68

Personally I'm not a fan of them. Although some are very artistic and well done. I think it takes away from one's natural beauty. I've seen some girls with absolutely Gorgeous peaches and cream completions all tatted up. It really took away from their beauty.

As my GG friend once said. "I  once wanted a tattoo. But when I worked at a nursing home and saw the all those shriveled up tattoos. That ended my desire for a tattoo"

@gafran I'm certainly aware of the negative perception one can have about tattoos and know this is shared by many people. I never got any until I was 58 years old  As a CD, my main concern that is caused by visual distraction. So, in some, but not all CD events, I plan to wear long sleeve dresses. As to aging, me personally by my elderly age, I don't care about my tattoos losing their shape. Thank you for your perspective because it is exactly why I asked the question. Surprisingly many have given more positive reaction than expected. In the end, to thine own self be true and just as many people don't like us CD's, many people don't like tattoos. We all have a right to our opinion as long as we don't hurt other people. My sister in law whom I love told me she doesn't like tats but she is happy I'm happy 😊❤️

@gafran Unfortunately, it's the skin that shrivels up and tattoo or not, it's always going to look old. My latest tattoo was done last year, just after my 70th birthday so I might hope that one day, in a nursing home, that tattoo might be the freshest part of my body!

I do wonder about the wisdom of someone in their late teens or early twenties getting their bodies inked in places that can't easily be covered up (neck, face, hands, etc,). Now their tattoos are going to look seriously shite in fifty or more years; although having said that, the way thing are going in the world, I wonder how many people have fifty years left to worry about it, so perhaps it doesn't matter so much.

@marsha68 Marsha, I try to avoid posting thoughts which might be deemed controversial here, mainly because I just want to be liked 😂. But that doesn't mean I don't have strong views on a lot of topics, so I'm going to step outside my comfort zone and say unequivocally that I am no fan of tattoos at all. Particularly the sleeve ones, if that's the correct term. I can't imagine one that would actually enhance the look of a woman, or add to her feminity.

My younger daughter has a number of them, and she knows how I feel. She had a horrendous ankle injury a couple of years ago that needed a major skin graft on top of multiple surgeries and insisted it was not taken from her thigh, which was the medical advice. Ended up taking it from her groin, which took about four months to heal up even with daily district nurse visits. The things we do for pride xx.

@chrisfp99 Nothing controversial about it. Just because quite a few of us do like tattoos on this thread, why shouldn't you say that you don't? After all, the thread is posted in the form of a question.

Also, people do like you, I think we all appreciate your dedication to the site even though you are unable to dress.

I can sympathise with your daughter, I mean, half a tattoo on one's ankle and the other half on the thigh! Still, I suppose it would have made for a conversation piece—or in this case, two, surgically separated 😉

@rebeccabaxter I 2nd that and as the originator of the thread, I am not offended by those saying they don't like tattoos, especially since they are voicing their opinion respectfully.

@chrisfp99 I asked this question to find out what the consensus was regarding tattoos and CD. Surprisingly the feedback has mostly been positive. However, It does not surprise that some people don't like tattoos. We all have a right to our opinion. My decision is to decide based on the type of event if I will cover up my tattoos. Even I agree that tattoos can be visually distracting. So sometimes I'll cover my arms and sometimes I won't.

A schizophrenic response from me. I don't.mind them, but not for me.

Except , when my wife died, my daughter and I both got a little sun tat on our ankles. I keep reminding myself I now need a moon tat on my other ankle. I need a yin to balance my yang.

@emmat Sounds good to me. I love my tattoos but know they're not for everyone. Also, when I crossdress I don't want visual distractions, so sometimes I will wear dresses with sleeves.

@marsha68 As a man, I always resisted getting a tattoo because I couldn't fathom what I would want to permanently mark on my body that I KNEW I would want with me for the rest of my life.

Then, a couple years ago, I realized that I wanted Vicki (my female self) to be with me for the rest of my life, even if I never come out of the closet.  So, I got a Vicki-themed tattoo!

When I (as Vicki) am feeling sassy, I like to go by Vixi.  So, I got a tattoo of "VIXI" in a style where it looks like odd Roman numerals.  I have a bunch of bogus reasons why these numbers are 'significant' (there are various combinations: 5/1/10/1, 5/9/1, 6/11, 6/9/1, etc).  But in reality, it's to permanently and covertly mark myself as always being Vicki - even when I don't actually feel like I want to be her.  Now, I CAN'T escape her! LOL

@rogers-kiki Thank you for your post. I took was not interested in tattoos for most of my life. I always used to judge people with tattoos. At 58, I was around lots of people with tats. I became interested and in fact decided to get over my judgement. I was only going to get one which became the phrase, "Better Happy than Right." 13 tattoos later who knows when I'll be done. When I am dead probably 😻😜

@marsha68 I was never a big fan of Tattoos but I have warmed to them recently.  I have seen a lot of women with them now and some are very pretty.  I haven't taken the plunge yet, but I can see me doing it soon as a part of my feminine expression.  I love the idea of getting a little heart on my instep or something motivating inside my wrist for starters.   I do hear it's a slippery slope when you start...

I have full sleeves, so it's safe to say I'm a fan. One arm is feminine the other masculine, so it's very "me". I'm not the least bit self-conscious about them en femme. It's all just part of who I am. I have a new 8" scar on my rebuilt collarbone that I want to cover up with something super femme but haven't yet had that creative epiphany yet (and it's probably another six months before the scar is ready, anyway). My wife has some gorgeous ink, too. I recall having a conversation with my artist about the differences between men and women's attitudes about ink. He told me in his 40 year experience that women are far more likely than men to get tattooed because body adornment is so much more normalized for women than men. It made a lot of sense to me.

@justnikki Thank you for your affirmation. After today, I will have 7 tats on each arm and I love them all. Each has special meaning to me and if for a given situation I can wear dresses with full sleeves if I wish to temporarily cover the art.

I have tattoos, one of them is specifically a girly one of orchids that I had done at a tattoo convention last year; it can be seen on my profile photographs. I have a science-y tattoo on my calf which doesn't really go with my feminine persona so I usually cover it a bit with black tights or longer skirts.

I have a tattoo on my right shoulder showing a phoenix rising from the ashes, which is symbolic of my attempts to recover from a disastrous relationship I had in the nineteen eighties—it was my first tattoo and whoever did it, knew what they were doing as it has hardly faded in all these years.

I also have one on my right upper chest which originally showed the Grim Reaper on a motorbike but whoever did it (over twenty years ago now and unlike the phoenix tattooist), ran it too deep and it has smudged to be almost illegible.

Anyway, we are going to the tattoo convention again this year and I'll almost certainly have another girly one on the inside of my right forearm, or perhaps on the outside edge of my left hand...or both!

@Rebecca Thanks for sharing your story. Today at 5pm I'm getting kitty paws print for my kitties Lasker who has passed and my present cat Ringo with her rings and stripes. Then in honor of Rod Serling, the Twilight Zone cone one each arm. One of my favorite TV series of all times.

@marsha68 My wife has a tattoo for every dog we've owned but has passed on. She has a pair of paw prints on her lower back for our old dog ND (short for Non-Descript; there is a story behind the name).

She has a bear paw print on her wrist because one of the many nicknames for the next dog (a border collie) was 'Woolly Bear'.

Lastly, she has a tattoo on the inside of her arm of some hollyhocks as our last dog was called Ollie and his one his many, many nicknames was Hollyhocks.

We still have a living dog but hopefully she won't be responsible for any tattoos for a very long time.

@rebeccabaxter My very first tattoo is a memorial to my late and lamented border collie Griffey and is well incorporated into my sleeve. That one nearly cost me my first wife at the time! Fortunately she showed herself the door in due time 😆

@justnikki I just kitty paws for my beloved cat Lasker and my new loving cat Ringo. I love Ringo but Lasker was a one of a kind kitty of a lifetime. Thought I would not get another but a cat rescue lady named Gina melted my heart to give Ringo, formerly named Mama a forever home. I haven't regretted it.

@jjandme Yes, times have changed. I didn't start until I was 58. Once you start, it can be addictive. Always a new idea coming up  However, I restrict my ink art to my arms only at least.

@jjandme My first tattoo was in 1985, when I was 31, my latest tattoo was done last year when I had just turned 70. I have had two in between: one in my fifties and one in my sixties. I like to think I'll be able to have one in my eighties too, but just in case, I'll settle for one this August at the tattoo convention.

@marsha68 That's what really matters, Marsha. I have friends who are super proud of their tats. I may not like them (the tats, that is) but I respect the fact that they love their skin artwork as much as they respect the fact I will never have one. We're all happy and that's what counts! 😊

I don't have any but haven't ruled out the idea of getting some. Like Nikki, I have a clavicle scar that might be a great place for one. I also love the idea getting a tramp stamp on my lower back. I just have to figure out what artwork I'm passionate about.

I am jst not a tat person. What I found most interesting was when the current trend began, the reason that people gave was to express their own indivduality...just like everybody else.

My daughter has a very discret tat that while I would not have one, it is her choice...once she left our care. Tats are like dressing in that they are not for everyone, and if you want tats or to dress, that is your choice in that neither really affect me.

@jjandme Yes, the answers to my post have covered the full spectrum of response. I accept everyone's views as their own opinion on the subject. As CD's who on expressing a feminine persona I can see where tattoos can be a visual distraction in addition to the visual of crossdressing. My choice is to take it case by case depending on the nature of the event.
