I have some false nails and I wanted to learn how to apply them but, as always, thinking ahead, I wondered how easy it was to remove them as I can't possibly go around all the time with them; I do have male things to do after all. It doesn't look like they are easy to get off if glued on.

Are there nails I can buy that I can just wear, say, for an evening, then take them off? I know this is a bit of a noob question but I can't be stuck with false nails for weeks.

Any help much appreciated.

Rebecca

@rebeccabaxter a couple of tips. Use an emery board to scuff the top of your nails to smooth them. And always wash your hands before applying the nails to remove any oils or contaminants on your natural nail. This goes for polishing your nails as well. Also, when using the emery board, push back your cuticles with the board so you can slip the fake nail under your cuticles and make the new nail look natural. Good luck.

@rebeccabaxter I bought a set of press on nails over a year ago and just recently tried them.  As some have mentioned they now have a double sided sticky pad to apply them. I finally tried them out and loved them. After you size them right to your nails, you alloy the sticky pad to your nail, then remove the top cover and press the mail onto your nail. I’ve slept with them on and they stay on really well. So after the first test with them I purchased more and to my surprise my wife loved them. They were a French tipped square nail. She asked if I would get her a set as she said they are exactly what she would get done from the salon at a faction of the price. Since then I’ve purchased many many sets and now I’ve found water proof sticky pads as that’s how I found they come off. I ordered all mine from Temu and they are dirt cheap as compared to any store around here.  Hope this helped.

@cdashley I agree - I 've bought many sets from Temu (along with the sticky pads, which are also dirt cheap, and very easy to remove - no solvent or anything else required to remove completely, leaving no trace), My collection ranges from the completely impractical pointy dark red ones, to some short, black ones and some wonderful metallic red medium length ones.  They usually come in packs of 24, and I generally find that I can get a good fit to my actual nails (although my hands luckily aren't too huge).  Some come with a few sticky pads, but the bulk (about 200?) packs only cost a couple of quid.  I get mine delivered to work (packaging says Temu but isn't obviously feminine products), so my wife doesn't accidentally open them.

@cdashley Love trying press on nails, so many styles and colours. Had some purple ones for my Halloween witch and sticky pads which worked well. Hated to take them off, but the tabs aren't hard to remove. Here I come TEMU.

Hello Rebecca,

Probably your best option is getting press on nails, they now have some wider nails nowadays in case you have large fingers, just make sure to clean your natural nail with alcohol before applying otherwise they come off easily. Some girls say if you soak the kind you glue in warm water you can pop them off, I haven’t tried.
There is also some kind of double stick tape that you can remove easily but it’s a pain at least for me to apply, best of luck 😘

@carlafirst11 I've always had an issue due to the wide width of my natural nails.  Whay brands of press on nails come in wider sizes?

Hi Rebecca,

I use nails that I apply with double sided stickers. They hold really well - only giving up the ghost if my hand slips on something (which is why I keep spares in my purse). I got like 500 on Amazon for $15 or something.

Removal is actually far easier. The nails I get come with a little bamboo wedge. When you want to remove the nails, just work it under from your wrist side to lift the sticker. Once you've gotten a little give, you just kinda fold it up toward the end of your finger. I did try soaking them in warm water, my first time, but honestly it didn't help much.

There are glue-ons, but nearly every review I've read about them is that forcing the glue off (as opposed to kinda letting it just lose it's tackiness) is really bad for your nail beds, and I don't usually wear my nails more than 24hrs, so I went the stickers route.

Happy hunting!

@melodeescarlet

Thanks Melodee. Had a look at Amazon and ordered 240 double-sided stickers for what, in your country, would amount to about $4, my wife already bought me the nails so I was looking for the best way to stick them on so I could get them off again quickly and these stickers seem to fit the bill. I'll let you know how it goes.

@rebeccabaxter Nice! Putting them on takes some patience and some repetition. You'll get it!

Dear Melodee,

Thank you for the advice and sharing. I would love to try having decorated nails!
The double sided stickers seem to be the most convenient way

I have used ImPress nails from my local CVS drugstore. They are cheap and easy to apply and remove.is fairly easy. There are times of options and no doubt any makeup supplier jas many options as well.

if the double-sided stickers don't work for me, I'll look into the Impress nails.

Are they easy to remove though?

I use nail glue and then use super glue remover that I bought on Amazon when I want to remove.  Works well.

I used double-sided stickers and some false nails yesterday. I just did my left thumb to test things out but I'm not sure I want to do all my fingers as there are decided disadvantages to having false nails, I have found. For example, I awoke last night with an slight itch inside my nostril, something so insignificant one wouldn't normally think about it...until I casually scratched it and nearly pierced my nose! That woke me up in a hurry.

Might have to reconsider the false nails as I do live an fairly active life and they may not be compatible with that. I have painted all my own nails though and I think I'll have to leave it at that.

The Impress nails are by far the easiest to apply and take off.  The stick on is already on the nail.

If you use nail glue, for removal, I will use a bowl with polish remover soak your finger tips for a few minutes and prying them off with the little stick that comes with, is much easier.

There are so many colors, designs and shapes!  Give them a try!

I used to use the press on's but for added strength, also the double sided (separate) sticky pads

This worked for quite a while, but possibly due to my very much aged "railway tracks" for fingernails, I could not get then to stay on for very long.

(Very dangerous in a DADT household)

So I gave up... I do miss them tho, especially when having to type "en femme" with pads flat and not angled like I am now.

Caty.
