I just bought a home waxing kit. It came with a heating pot, four small bags of wax, applicators, etc.

There is definetly a learning curve, but my first results were reasonably good, but it was fiddly. I like the results much better then using an epilator or shaving, but I don't do as good a job as my wax techician. Maybe with time and practice. I enjoy my leg and brow waxing appointments, so intend to keep going to them, but for pits, chest and belly this system seems to work.

My big question is, does anybody else do home waxing, and if so which wax do you use. The kit wax does not seem to work the way the wax my tech uses does.

@jjandme Thanks, but no thanks to waxing.

I want a permanent hair elimination solution at a reasonable price and relatively quickly.

No system is perfect, but if you can devote the time to it, try IPL. 😉

@jjandme I had a full body wax some years ago. I thought it was messy and time consuming and I bought an epilator right after that. Maybe it doesn't do as complete a job as wax but I can take it traveling for touch ups. It's worked for me for over 10 years.

If you love the wax then you do you.

 In a quick answer no!

My GG friend teaches skincare, facials, waxing. To students going into this field. Doing all the required hours and services to be state licensed.

I trust her to do home waxing because of her vast knowledge and 20 plus years of skill.

The difference in wax types. Hard and soft has to do with the hair your removing. The hard wax will remove the thicker hair. But not the finer hair Soft wwax gets those.

Exfoliating the skin 24 hours before waxing helps in preparation of waxing.

The home waxing kits are generally a lighter formulation than what the professionals use.

Bottom line for me its worth the money to go to a pro for these services.

I use hard wax for intimate areas.  The one I use is "Just Wax Expert Advanced Hot Wax" by Salon System, the little granules are a light blue colour.  It starts out transculent when melted and turns opaque when it's ready to rip off.  It seems a lot gentler on the skin than the previous golden-coloured Salon System hard wax discs I used to use, and easier to work with.  Although the instructions suggest to use 'a thinnish layer', too thin can still leave it prone to breakage, and difficultly getting hold of enough to pull the remains off.

I have previously hard-waxed the pits but yes that is rather fiddly isn't it.  I epilate them now.  Chest and belly were a lot more straightforward to hard-wax, but I find those are fine with soft roller-wax, which is much easier to do (I used to use that for my legs too, but these day for convenience, I epilate them also).

I have seen videos of wax techs doing armpits, and using something that looked more like a pink mousse that could be spread and shaped much more before it hardened.  I guess a tech might use different sorts of wax depending on the sensitivity of the area?

I tried home waxing and although I found the results rather good I felt it wasn’t worth the time investment.  It was messy and took a while to heat up the wax.  I tried strips (ineffective), roll wax (a little better), microwaveable wax (better still but had to move fast before it cooled) and wax heat units with can wax (best still but messy).

I found that epilating worked just as well but did not have the mess.  I have tried many kinds but find the offerings from Braun to be very good (but not cheap).  The plus is I can do arms and legs on different days whenever I want and have been trying to do it more frequently.

For me both methods sting a bit but over time I got used to it.  Definitely try different waxes and methods to see what works best for you.  My hair is pretty coarse and grows fast … 😢

Oh I forgot to mention I used the hard wax and the Gigi all purpose honee wax.  I didn’t care for the hard wax much but the honey infused kind (you need the strips to remove the wax) worked better for me.
