I’m sure some of you have experience with body waxing.  What products do you use and any tips to reduce the pain of having hair ripped from chest and private areas.  I ordered Tress waxing kit because it seemed highly recommended.  Feel free to provide some tales of your first experience with waxing and any advice that would make the experience less traumatizing.

@michelle2025 I visit a lovely beauty salon where delightful Amy attends to all my waxing needs. I find that a professional hot waxing is both much more thorough and also considerably less painful than anything I have been able to achieve at home with various products. An added bonus is that I have picked up lots of other beauty tips about make up and nails too. Jane x

Im not quite ready to hit the Salons yet.  Still building the courage and need to get some practice in first.  Haven’t done the nails or makeup yet because someone else was always home and afraid to get caught.  Also didn’t know how to remove it all properly.  Now that my wife knows and is supportive, I will be experimenting very soon.

I leave the waxing tonight the pros. You can do serious damage to your skin. The area around your eyes is thinner. Hard waxing this area puts the wax where you want it to shape the brows. Strip wax takes some skin off in the procedure. Plus it moves and is not recommended in this area.

Exfoliating the skin 24 hours before and every 3 days after waxing help prevent ingrown hair.

On the face blade shaving exfoliates the skin. Electric razor doesn't. Use a good face cleaner. Never wash your face with the soap that you use on the rest of you.

The hair growth cycle is around 5 to 6 weeks. After 4 or 5 waxings there will much less hair to deal with. What's left can then be removed by an epilater.

Thanks for the advice Fran.  I ordered the Tress waxing kit.  Uses hard wax and has high reviews.  With that said, I will still be careful where I use it.  Not planning around the eyes.  I figured that would be a part of a makeover.

I’ll give a review when I do a bit on my torso and legs.  Fortunately as I got older, my legs have less hair and hair is not thick on my chest.

I've never been hairy myself. I  sure feel for the girls that have a carpet growing on them! 🥰

@michelle2025 I had a full body waxing some years ago. I expected more discomfort than actually happened. What bothered me most was the mess. Even after the technician finished all her cleanup (yes it was a she) I still felt like there was more to do. At home, after a good shower, I still felt like there were remnants of was on me. I would never do that again and can't see doing it to myself.

After that I bought an epilator. Yes, it's not the most comfortable thing I've ever done, but it works. I had the same results as the waxing. It's easier to do and much more portable if traveling. I've been using it now for about 15 years. I easily go 6-8 weeks between uses and even in between I still don't feel any stubble and have to look to see if there is growth as it's softer than before and more sparse.

Cheryl, do you have any recommendations for an epilator?

@michelle2025 Michelle, I use a Braun Silk Epil 5. It has an LED light that really finds those stray hairs for a smooth finish. It has a long cord, about 6' so it's easy to use everywhere. It also came with a shaving head and trimmer. You can use that to trim the hair before using the epilator function. The shaver head does ok, but the epilator head works very well.

I got mine on Ebay for under $30. It's well worth it. After 15 years now I use it about every 6-8 weeks. In between the hairs are softer and less noticeable than they ever were shaving. No more stubble. No more prickly feeling days later. It's also compact and easy to take traveling.

They have other models that are cordless and wet/dry but I think that's a waste of money. If you get one then message me and I'll even tell you how to take it apart to clean it. It's easy and something that must be done for best results and long life.

Thank you for that great advice.  I will look at that epilator and may order it.

@cherylt I'm intrigued by the epilator.  I'm going to have to look into it.  I've been giving at home laser treatment a try.  Using a Nood.  It has definitely reduced my hair on my thighs.  Trying to get the chest down.  I tried wax and sugaring but it was a hairy, waxy mess.

@michelle2025 I've been trying sugaring, but have had mixed results.  My wife swears by at salon waxing but I've been looking for a good solution.  Been trying laser hair removal (using a Nood currently).  It definitely seems to be working after using it for 8 weeks now.  Glad you started this discussion!

Thanks Jamie.  I ended up getting a Tress Wellness waxing kit.  Came with 5 bags of wax beads.  Over the course of 2 days, my wife helped me wax my bikini area, legs, back and chest.  It was not as bad as I thought but was pretty uncomfortable in sensitive areas.  It turned out real good.  That was a week ago and I still feel smooth.  Actually it makes the tan I am developing look good without the hair.

Its only the first 2 or 3 times that really hurt. it gets easier every time after that. I regularly get my back and chest waxed and i no longer have any discomfort from my back and very little from my chest. The hair gets less rooted and thinner over time.

I don’t have excessive hair but will Need a little removed from chest and back.  Legs are not as hairy as they used to be.  Mostly worrying about the taint.  I’m glad you mention it becomes less painful over time.  That gives me some hope.

@michelle2025 It has really become a non event. Hair has thinned considerably that it goes so fast now. takes less then 30 min for both. That even allowing for a little chit chat with the tech.

That is good to know and encouraging.  It is the private areas that worry me the most.

@michelle2025 My "Ulike" IPL has pretty much taken care of that. Had to use the strongest setting on some of it but its pretty much gone.  Ill shave every couple of weeks just to keep it clean of anything new.

thanks for the info.  My wife waxed my chest, stomach, and back last night.  I did have a bit more hair than I thought but it was tolerable, although a bit extra painful at times.  Figured that was enough for one night.

Before i epilate, a hot shower prior and stretching the skin, reduces the pain....not sure if a hot shower applies to waxing, stretching the skin ...will definitely help.

I will try that.   Thank you for the advice.  I don’t think I will try epilating as I have heard my wife mention it can be painful and she refuses to use them.

Hi Michelle, I've looked up the Tress kit you've bought.  Absolutely, hard wax for one of those areas, your instincts are correct 🙂  The quality makes a difference to how easy and comfortable you will find the process but I guess if you use their Bikini wax downstairs it should be good enough, if the reviews are true.

The big thing with both those areas is the wax temperature - all that skin is really sensitive, so you need it pretty much as low as the wax will stay molten enough to use - again, this will vary between different formulations, so better quality is worthwhile.  Give it plenty of time to cool down to temperature after the initial melt, always follow the grain of the hair with the spatula, and I'm sure you'll manage a good result 🙂

In time, if you get on well with waxing, you might like to think about a soft roller-wax system for your chest, or you might already have one for your legs.  It's a lot easier to use, where you can get away with it.

Hugs,
Fiona xxx

Thank you for that advice.  I don’t have a roller waxer but will do some research.   I will definitely be careful in the Brazilian wax area.

The first 2 times I went to a place and they used soft wax on me. It hurt on the upper legs where there is more flesh because the skin pulled when they pulled the muslin strips. Holding the skin while they pulled helped a little, but it still hurt.

For the last 14.5 years I have gone to a place that uses hard wax, and it made a big difference. My inner legs and stomach hurt the most, but by now it really doesn't hurt. The hair has thinned considerably.

Although they claim to do a man's private area, it really depends on the waxer, and most won't do it. So I have to wear boxer briefs, and they wax most of the rest of me (legs, arms, chest, stomach, back). I shave my armpits, and recently started to get the hairs in my nose waxed as well.

Other than some touch-ups (with soft wax), I have not really tried to do it myself.

Thanks for sharing your experience Alison.  I got a hard wax kit I will be trying with the wife’s help.   I will share my experience after.   If you are wondering what kit, it is the Tress waxing kit.   Came through Amazon yesterday.
