This is about tucking in tops, not the other kind of tucking. Sorry for the salacious title, I couldn’t resist the play on words! 😀
I’m a complete fashion dunce, so I have no idea when I should leave a top free vs. tucking it into my skirt/pants/whatever. I have a pretty loose manner of dress in drab (i.e. jeans and t-shirt most days) so my default is untucked. Any good tips?
if you are talking about tucking the blouse under the skirt it can be either or, depending on what you feel like doing showing more blouse then skirt or more skirt then blouse. i like to tuck my blouse under my skirt it looks more feminine looking
Unfortunately it depends on the blouse/top *and* the trousers or skirt you're going to wear it with, just as some mens' shirts are always designed to be tucked in and others have a bottom that gives you the option.
My personal solution to the tucking of tops is to wear dresses as much as possible. That also solves the issue of coordinating tops and bottoms 😀
Some practical examples 🙂
Black Satin Blouse - Untucked
Black Satin Blouse - Tucked
Brown Top - Untucked
Brown Top - Tucked
Grey Top - Untucked
Grey Top - Tucked
It's a minefield really 🙂
It depends - leggings are always a swing top or tunic top untucked. Jeans are usually untucked. Tight pencil skirts are always tucked - they’re designed to show off curves, so why defeat the purpose!
Just have fun experimenting in front of a mirror Morgan. Have spent hours in front of a mirror just trying different looks. What looks good tucked or untucked on you may not look good that way on somebody else. For example somebody with a bigger build may look better untucked but if you have a figure you want to show off this would be better achieved by tucking. The length of a garment as well may be a deciding factor as well. Look at women in the street/TV/magazines, you will get cues from them as well. Fun fun fun.

My SOGGF tells me always TUCK a top if I going to wear any kind of spandex top, especially if I going to wear a similar spandex skirt, especially if it's a pencil skirt or a miniskirt and if I'm going to wear some spandex skinny jeans.
My SOGGF is very big on me wearing tight SPANDEX bodysuits, [she says then "your ample bust will really STANDOUT" 🤗😉😉 especially if we have had an argument about why she rarely wears similar outfits, [she is a 38DD and with my forms, I'm a 38DDD/E)] which always are worn over your panthose/tights and under your skirt/slacks/skinny jeans.
If you are into Modern Western Square dancing as we are, you always Tuck a top into you skirt, but over your petticoat waistband and NEVER EVER forget your PETTIPANTS under the petticoat but OVER your panthose (or Garterbelt/Stockings), NEVER wear stayup thighhighs, trusting them to STAYUP....I did one time, only to have them both fall down one time while being twirled by my dance partner 😫😫😫😟😖 luckily I didn't trip and fall .. the only saving grace my SOGGF had insisted, I bring along an "emergency" pair of pantyhose in car trunk..while I was putting on my "stayup" Stockings without a Garterbelt....since then never wear anything but pantyhose or regular stockingss and a garterbelt with atleast 4 garters, she and I personally prefer Garterbelts with 6 garters.
LEARNED MY LESSON the hard way, very much embarrassed to have BOTH STOCKINGS slide down my legs while being twirled by my dance partner for that particular dance.
I agree with Bianca, it depends on the outfit and the body style. Sometimes I have tried a top tucked and I think I look like a guy. Other times I wear it tucked and look so pretty and feminine. I look at a lot of other women and their outfits to get good hints. I have notice one thing and that is a blouse that is very puffy can be tucked a lot easier than others but again if you are wearing a tight top with a tight skirt I like the look and belt helps break the two so you have a beautiful look. Morgan the great thing about being a woman is the ability to change your look by just tucking and adding a belt or untucking and looking more carefree. If you have a trusted couple people you can ask they may let you know too if it looks good.
Good luck and have fun with the styles.
