I saw yet again in one of our national dailies an article about the latest fashion trends. You know, one of those pieces about what's in and what if you wear it labels you a dinosaur and not fit to be let loose in public. The part of the article that really caught my eye was what it said about white trainers/sneakers. Basically it said that white trainers are so passe that they are at least 6 years behind the current trends. It suggested instead that women should be wearing Crocs and Birkenstocks. Now when I read this I was mortified to my soul. I love my white trainers and here in the UK lots of women still wear them with everything from jeans to fairly posh frocks. Occasionally they are still seen on the red carpet and not in any ironical way. Also the stores are still full of them and I struggle to see Crocs and Birkenstocks where I live which is hardly the boondocks. My final comment is that Crocks and Birkenstocks might be what Fulaham mum wears with her Boden midaxi but have still not made it to this part of the world. Are you still wearing your white trainers or have you surrendered to the fashion police?
National dailies are probably promoting something so should be taken with a pinch of salt unless you are a fashionista and wend your way through the circles of the elite following the word.
Common sense for us mortals is what is in the shops we go in and what those like us wear. White trainers are still in as are various colours. I have no issue in finding a nice dress which I feel comfortable wearing which can be dressed up with heels and a bit of bling or dressed down with less bling with flats or trainers. You don't have to pay big bucks for style as whatever you wear you make it your own.
I have a pair of white wedge trainers (covered in sparkles, naturally). They're comfy, but light and cute.
You do you, girl! 🙂
No surrender🫶you wear what you want to wear, I’m still in my skinny jeans, along with millions of other ‘outlaws’ from the fashion police.

Well, I'm pretty much past worrying about what I'm "supposed to wear" lol. I remember a similar article saying that skinny jeans were out too and thinking "but I just finally got enough courage to wear them:("
I don't have a white pair of sneakers, but I do have a red pair. They're great when I want a comfy shoe (everyone needs a break from heels now and then) and a splash of color.
I think it's fun to know what the "latest trends" are, but it's more fun to wear what you want and what you like. I peruse fashion websites or magazines for ideas, never for standards or rules to follow. As the pirates say, "they're more like guidelines than actual rules." I also live in a relatively rural area, so trends usually get here about 10 years late, and most people don't know anyway. If anyone here doesn't like my outfit, it's not going to be because the style is too old.
I’m not a proponent of Crocs. I think they look ‘lazy’.
I would love a pair of Birkenstocks, I actually tried on a pair while out shopping this weekend. They were a tad small, so I passed on buying them. If only. They looked so cute, the straps were a subtle lavender with a slight metallic sheen.

They can say what they like but I enjoy my white sneakers (Ked brand) when wearing my skinny jeans.
Never been a fan of Crocks or Birks
I look around wear I live and plain white trainer are the most popular shoe by far.

Crocs have to be the worst invention ever . They are so f***ing ugly I can not imagine any self respecting lady going out in public wearing them . They may be comfortable but still girls come on .Sneakers may not be the most attractive choice of footwear for a lady to wear but they still have crocs beat by a mile .Lynne
Hi Veronica, I'm out, open and regularly wear just whatever I want. I figure that I set my own fashion standard and minions can follow any trend that they want if that makes them happy. Tomorrow I will wear my everyday Nikes with my gray mini business suit on my way to a presentation that I'm giving. I will change the Nikes at the parking lot and slip into my 3 inch black heels and repeat the process for my drive home. If I wasn't a presenter, I might keep the Nikes on all day. They are comfortable and I prefer them over sandals. I do have expensive and specialty footwear in my closet but only wear them if I think that my outfit demands it. I generally choose function and comfort over fashion and usually that's some type of runner, sneaker or leather footwear. Thanks for this interesting question. Marg
I have never been a fan of what publications tell me what to wear.I am still into my skinny jeans, floaty tops, tee shirts ,dresses and heels.I know some of the new fashions are not for me as Michelle admits to being 50 years of age{Marty is 75}.If Michelle is comfortable and looks great ,I am happy.
I love the look of white trainers and tights. Don’t know what it is, I never used to but I guess it’s the fact that you are wearing something comfy, and at the same time choosing to amplify it with tights. Maybe it’s just me…
Speaking for myself I love wearing my white converse with yoga pants, but that is rare as I am totally a cute sandal kind of girl. There are some Birkenstocks that are cute but I would rather where a pair of cute sparkly slides or just some cute and stylish flip flops. Crocs? Definitely not.
Hi Lexi
Thanks for your input. It seem that I may be in a minority in not being a great fan of Birkenstocks but glad to sees that there's still support for white trainers.

Hi Katie
I think you're on to something about the mix n' match nature of white trainers with tights. There seem to be lots of other occasions where contrasts work well together -- light and dark clothing, smooth and textured fabrics etc.
