Its all new to me in the first person now - trying to have a measured but real response with meaningful change - the question then is as a person of a certain age and size where do o go for the next step. In some wats I miss New York City were i know there where resources a plenty. Not so much here in the New Orleans area; where i thought i would find everything needed or desired given its the home to so much and not just Mardi gra; now i just feel lost.
Anyone care to offer suggestions ?

sei la Mia unicameral speranza….
Sure As you know Latin you may find your answer in the phrase, "Vini, Vidi, Visa"... I came, I saw, I shopped. Get yourself out girl! I'm sure you can do some real damage in New Orleans! Beads are always in vogue. I've been there in off season and found it easy to make friends. Lots of trans friendly places.Lots of great jazz places and eateries to hang out. Hard not to meet people of your persuasion, whatever it may be. Good luck and enjoy!!
Welcome Vincent to CDH. Look at the listings of CD friendly places that CDH has on the site for New Orleans.

Mi scusa Questo non Latino es Italiano, comeme…
Italian no Latin? like me
Welcome Vincenza,
There's probably more at your disposal in large area like New Orleans than you think.
First, do some research on line and figure out your rough sizes in women's sizes.
Then you will know where to browse in the stores...
If you're looking to shop and save money, start at thrift and vintage shops....good deals to be had often.
If there's an LGBTQ friendly section of town, find a thrift/vintage shop there to start. The community tends to be more welcoming to our kind.
I myself have gotten to where I walk into the local Kohl's dressed in male mode, shop what I like in the ladies clothes and buy what I like.
Also, Amazon Prime(free shipping) is great for trying something and sending back what doesn't fit.
I know this will sound "easy for you to say", but when you visit a vintage shop, ask the person there for help. They honestly probably could care less what you're buying... if it's the shop owner/manager, they want a sale...
I find that the make up stores like Ulta and Sephora are HAPPY to sell to boys or girls alike... so get some help there with 2 things to start. Foundation and basic eye shadow pallet. Then you can build from there.
Sorry for the ramble... got lost there a sec...
Another option, do some digging on Google. I found a place in San Jose that offered services to CDs. Clothing, lockers to keep your stuff so that it isn't at home, makeup teaching sessions, and a place to dress and hang out safely... see what you can find...
Good luck and happy dressing dear.
XOXO

Hello Vincenza! So glad that you're here with us!
One of the ambassadors may be able to help you, but I'm guessing there may be a cd group in Nola, that you could check out.

Hi, Vincenza, welcome to CDH! Your profile says you're now living in Hahnville, about 30 mins from New Orleans. I'm in Metairie, but it's hard to tell where that ends and New Orleans begins. As a CD, I'm probably a bit more closeted than you are, so I couldn't give you a list of the "resources" you're looking for. I still tend to hide away in my li'l old apartment, dressing privately. My friends at CDH are my entire CD universe.
But have a look at: https://www.crossdresserheaven.com/local-places/ This idea was started way back in 2019, but hasn't been updated in awhile. I'm especially interested in a wig shop/makeover place in the Quarter run by a trans woman called "Fifi Mahoney's", but never got the courage to make an appointment for a makeover.
If you're really serious about breaking out of the closet, Samantha Roarke (one of the CDH Ambassadors) might have a few suggestions for you about where to go in NOLA -- she lives here. She often frequents the "Golden Lantern" in the FQ, said to be an LGBTQ-friendly sort of place (but I've never been).
And, if I may, I'd like put in a plug for the CDH Local Chapter called the "Bayou Belles", a NOLA-based Private Group. We have several girls there just hankering for someone in the SE Louisiana/Miss. Gulf Coast region to hang out with.
Wish I could be of more help.
Enjoy your stay at CDH!

Thank you - that is a huge help actually. Grazzi Tanda…
this information lets me feel a bit more secure in venturing out in drab or otherwise and I need to satay some where desperately so.
I have been outside her wig shop a dozen times but being scared enough to soil myself kept me from stepping in.
I will be back there in 2 weeks and make a point to breath deep then step in.
Bayou Bells? I would like to find out more ? Thank you
Sure thing, Vincenza! Here's a link:

We are a "Private Group", so you will have to request membership. You would immediately be accepted into the fold, as you're in the local geographical area. But here's the thing: last I looked, in order to be able to actually participate in the Group's discussion you would have to be above the "Lady" membership level. See Terri Anne's post below.
Maybe we'll see you there!!
