I find it fascinating that you have dressed for so long but only in private. Have you ever ventured out in public, dressed or even just underdressed?
@harriette My journey has been a long that started when I was around 5. For most of my life I lived with a bit of shame (its just how I dealt with it) Early on and up until more recently (last several months) it was only panties, stocking and lingerie. Now I'm into full dressing up, matching outfits, coordinating with wigs and make-up.
What changed you ask? I'm in a different station in life, my wife and I have been married for 38 years now are empty nesters and in more of a retired mode. Like many crossdressers I purged my things for years but have now found the freedom and extra support my wife has provided in my journey. Where it was more sexual in the past my crossdressing has become more of an expression of myself if that makes sense.
Lately, I've desired to see how it would feel to go out to a LGBTQ club or even a weekend resort possibly with another CD but I'm not there yet. I know at some point I will but I need to extra confidence and style to pull it off.
I've always been open with my wife about my crossdressing and she agrees now that I should explore it more openly but just doesn't want to be as open as me about it. She allows me to wear clothing, helps me shop for things, gives me make-up tips and is really supportive. With my new insight I've developed a new understanding of what women go through.
I have noticed a progression with my dressing and am seeking therapy to help me have a better understanding. That part is a little scary for me but I believe I can get through it. I do love my male body.

@siskaye That's OK, Kaye. It is therapeutic to let some things out and I think that I am a good listener.
If you can or are allowed to go out dressed, you will be able to test what you do, plus it has its own added thrills. Progression will accelerate, too.

@siskaye I sometimes fantasize about going to one of those Vogue Events in NYC not to participate geeze i cant dance to save my life. or have that energy. or in any way glamorous. but just to be River and have no one even bat an eye. sit at the bar . have a few cocktails and people watch. and feel free. still to chicken and need alot of work on my look as well. but its a dream 😉 Cheers Welcome to CDH.. @river Good afternoon River, a beautiful name BTW. I'm not sure what has come over me lately but I feel a strong urge to get dressed up and venture out to one of those resorts or local trans bar for a night out. I think it's tied into my own confidence as I move along on my journey. I've started to focus on my figure, exercising more, and would be lying if I didn't say it was to look better in a dress 🙂
I do see myself someday going through with this but for now, it's more of a distant goal I have.

I'm a mature crossdresser too I've been dressing most of my life since i was about 8 or 9 years old when i tried my older sister's lingerie on, I'm still in the closet to my wife and family, I'm not sure about coming out to my wife as she says she doesn't understand why some men want to dress up like women,
