I am from upstate NY, and have been dressing (closet) for a few years. I would love to have someone teach me how to do my own makeup. I don't get to dress very often because I'm married.
Hi Danielle, and welcome to CDH. It's nice to meet you. I'm currently exploring makeup, too, and finding it difficult to figure out overall. That said, if there is an Ulta or Sephora nearby, the ladies in both stores are very helpful to people like us. I can speak personally about Sephora having just gone a few weeks ago. And the gals here who have gone to Ulta have also said nothing but nice things. If that's not possible, YouTube will find you some tutorials. Just be careful, because even some videos out there labelled as "beginner" are way beyond what I would consider beginner-level, and they did nothing but confuse me.
Feel free to ask in the forums or chats, of course, about specific questions. The ladies here couldn't be more helpful if they tried!
Hi Danielle, Nice to welcome another New Yorker. The girls here are friendly and helpful when asked. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Hi Danielle,
You will find a lot of us here are in a comparable position. Trying to learn how to embrace this side of ourselves is very difficult when we don't have people directly in our lives we are ready to share it with. The wonderful thing about CDH is it is a very supportive community, we can be open here; the girls here don't judge each other they all want to help.

Hi Danielle... Welcome to our little piece of heaven. It's great to have another New Yorker in the mix here. Rose has given excellent advice as to where to look for makeup help. I might add that I have found that some of the manufacturers (Cover Girl, Maybelline, etc.) also have tutorials for their products sometimes. The biggest hurdle I've found with makeup is the time to practice. It is hard to learn a new skill when you can't practice it every day. Don't get discouraged though. I've practiced some over the years, but I still make plenty of mistakes. Don't sweat if your makeup isn't perfection every time. Look at the women around you every day, theirs isn't always perfect either.
Hugs,
Penny
