Brieanne from Rhode Island here! Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

I'm 54 years old and have been crossdressing off and on since childhood. Over the years I have spent a lot of energy trying to figure out what it all means about me.  Is it just a fetish? Am I gay? Trans? Inevitably I would get overwhelmed by it all, throw out all of my girl things, and resolve to live a "normal" life. Eventually I would come across a cute pair of shoes or boots (why is it always the boots?) that would lead me back into the cd life. Wash, rinse, repeat!

Recently, though, I have been looking at it differently. Maybe it's not that complicated. Maybe wearing high heels and lace and make up just...makes me happy.

CDH seems like a good place for me to be Brie and be happy about it! Looking forward to meeting all of you.

@brieanne Welcome to CDH, accepting yourself is a major milestone and come to that realisation so early is brilliant, took my a lot longer. Love to hear more of your journey and experiences. Katie.

Welcome, Brieanne!

You are right on both counts, crossdressing isn't complicated, it's some other folks' reactions that "complicate" it.

And, CDH is the best place to be who you want to be. You'll see that your story is very similar to lots of others here, I wouldn't want to know how much money we've all wasted, not to mention the lovely things we've thrown away. And why? Because we get taken in by the hype of people who haven't a clue what joy and relaxation crossdressing can bring.

What you'll find here is acceptance and understanding, encouragement and support. Everyone is genuinely warm and friendly and helpful. So, if there's anything you need or questions you have, just shout, we'll do our best.

Enjoy being yourself among like-minded sisters 😊.

@brieanne Welcome to CDH!

My own take on it is I like wearing makeup and a pretty dress. Oh and tights.

@annaredhead I love wearing makeup, but I’m not very good at putting it on.  One of my goals this year is to learn how to do my own makeup the right way.

@brieanne It's worth finding a makeup artist who can give you a few lessons. After that it's practice.

@annaredhead I would love to get a makeover and a tutorial at Ulta or Sephora.  Feels like an awfully bold step at the moment, though

@brieanne Welcome to CDH, Breianne!

If you ever get to the point of purging again, come back here and break the glass, read your note. "I shall not purge again!"

@harriette in regards to purging

I was ready to throw my crossdressing clothes away but I put away for awhile and I'm glad I did it

Just hide it some where and leave it a Smile lone and when you're ready to crossdress

It will be there

@hueych53ch46 that’s the smart, healthy thing to do. I trend more towards the big, dramatic gestures so I can regret them later and try desperately to undo them.

Can you say “drama queen,” everyone?🤣

@hueych53ch46 Right. Sometimes it takes a while for some CDs to learn this trick.

@brieanne I'm also trying to figure out how dressing fits in with my real life ... and what my actual wants and needs around it are!

@carloscloset I’ve spent a lot of time on that one myself. Currently just focusing on one day at a time and having fun with it. It’s when I over think the big picture implications that I get overwhelmed and end up throwing everything out.

@brieanne It's great to have you here Brieanne!  CDH is a wonderful place full of likeminded people with a lot to offer.   I'm sure that you will find many in similar situations as yours and with the same feelings.   I have been around her for about 1 1/2 years and I have learned a lot about myself.  As time has gone on, I have become much more open about my real feelings which has really accelerated the process for me.

BTW...I'm with you sister.....I love my boots!!!

Stay happy!

@brieanne Hey Brieanne, late to the party but welcome to CDH from a UK girl. The shame, guilt, purge cycle is a very common topic for discussion here. It's generally agreed that this thing just doesn't go away, and indeed can grow stronger as we age. Heck I managed to abstain for 35 years but it's back in spades. But like you my partner doesn't know, and I have zero opportunity to indulge my feminine side. I'm glad to hear you're more comfortable with your girly feelings now. Do you get at least some femme time? Whatever, you've made a possibly life-changing decision to join CDH. It's just the best place to interact with those of a similar mindset. I think you're going to love it here.

Hugs, Chrissie xx.

Hi Brieanne and welcome to CDH! I joined just about a month ago, and it's been a great place so far. I enjoy the chat room the most, though the conversations ebb and flow like most things.

I'm not far from you in Mass., north of Boston. There's a CD event in Marlboro mass in a few weeks called Diva Social that you may be interested in. I think they have it posted on Eventbrite. I may go to it myself, but there's scheduling issues I need to iron out.

Anyway, welcome, and I hope you find things useful here.

Take care,

Kelly

@kellymoore I've heard of Diva Social! I don't know if I'm quite ready for that yet lol, but it's a fun goal to aim for 🙂

Hi Brieanne,

Welcome to CDH it's nice to meet you,

It took me a long while before i finally accepted that I'm a crossdresser, now it is part of who i am ,if only i had the courage to come out to my wife and family i would be a lot happier, I don't think there is just one answer we all have different reasons for why we do what we do, but i think you have found the answer to why you do it, It just makes you happy if you find something that makes you happy in this world then why not just go with it, there are lots of things in this world that are worse than putting on a dress,

@rozalyne Hello, Roz!  It's sooo nice to meet you!

Funny story about finding my answer...it was a salesgirl in a shoe store that started my current line of thinking.  I was in Cleveland on business about a year ago and I went to one of the local malls after work as I usually do. I love shopping in person so much more than shopping online, and I feel safe that I won't run into anyone I know when I'm out of town.

Anyway, I was in a DSW store that I knew was having a big sale.  There was a pair of super cute ankle boots that were being sold at something like 75% off. I had done (another) purge of my girl stuff a few month previously, and I was debating starting my wardrobe over again. The store was too busy for me to actually try them on but I did take them out of the box. All of the same doubts came racing back...would my wife notice the money I spent? did I really want to start this whole cycle again? is it dumb to buy things I would probably only wear in a hotel room?

In the middle of my inner monologue I heard someone behind me say "It's not that serious." I turned and was slightly horrified to see one of the salesgirls standing behind me. She smiled and nodded at the boots I still had in my hand. "I'm just saying, you've been trying to make up your mind for like 20 minutes, and they're just shoes. It's not that big of a deal." She smiled again and went back to work.

I have no idea if she knew the boots were for me and she was being supportive, or if she thought I was trying to pick something out for a SO. I chose to believe she was being supportive and thanked her while I was checking out at the cash register.

I've had a couple more false starts since then, but that salesgirl's words have stuck in my head ever since, and I'm now finally at the point where I can tell myself "It's not that big of a deal" and actually believe it Smile

@brieanne

Your welcome Brieanne,

It's not a big deal is it, I used to get embarrassed every time i saw something feminine to buy but not anymore, I've lost count the amount of times I've been into charity/thrift shops and saw something I'd like to buy left it then went back and it had been sold, unless you buy it there and then you know it won't be there when you go back, now if I'm on my own in a big store and i see something i like I'll just buy it, save me going back for it, lately I've bought myself a skirt and jacket suit but I've not actually tried it on the jacket fits me the skirt might be a bit tight but I'm hoping I'll lose a few more inches off my waist so it will fit me better,

@rozalyne omigosh! I can’t count how many times I’ve put something back and told myself I’d get it later, only to have it be gone when I get back.

I’ve gotten to the point where I’m not embarrassed to be seen shopping in the women’s section, or buying things in person.  I’m still working on gaining the confidence to try things on in the store, though. I did once, in a Walmart, and it was amazing, but that was a whole ago.  I’m basically starting over (again) so I’m hoping the confidence comes back!

Hi Brianne, this is a great site with lots of helpful and supportive gals.

I hope you feel as comfortable here as the other ladies have made me feel.

 I am also trying to make sense of things, but everyone here has been helpful and I have not encountered any negativity.
