I often think about being “different” than others and how I would feel if people treated me disrespectfully. I was always taught to treat others the way I want to be treated. Interestingly, my relationship with my Mother was complicated. She showed she loved me when I did what she wanted me to do and was who she wanted me to be. If I was anything other than that, I got her wrath. I understand her reasons now, but it taught me that there was nothing more valuable than just accepting the whole person. In sum, I just didn’t want to be her….
